I have this cable, and I had the same problem with the old kernels. It seems
that it requires kernel 2.6.24 (as in Ubuntu 8.04). With this kernel, the
/dev/ttyUSB0 device is created. However, the connection to the mobile phone
still doesn't work. I get a lot of the dmesg message

On Kubuntu karmic alpha 2 live cd, trying to install kdepim-dbg I get
No space left on device, even with 2Gb ram and 4 Gb swap, and using an
external disk for /var/cache/apt/archives. Can someone give hints about

Still present in karmik alpha 2 live cd.
As said above, the problem is not in Linux/Ubuntu, but in some routers. However
for a novice, this is a big problem, difficult to understand, and is perceived
as a Linux/Ubuntu bug. A workaround would be very useful.

Even if a fix has been released, this bug is still present in 8.04 hardy
kubuntu live after
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre-headless
and can confuse the unaware user. As 8.04 is long term support, the bug shoud
be fixed also in this release.
