I attached the unity logs from .cache/upstart.
I also noticed something weird, if i log into xfce then log back out and
choose unity it starts xfce, this only happens if i have logged in to
xfce and back out.

but it's my fault to not notice that):

The command to list Python scripts that have been autoloaded is:

It's a small script that adds /usr/share/glib-2.0/gdb to
gdb in Ubuntu links against libpython3.4.
The Python scripts in /usr/share/glib-2.0/gdb haven't been fully ported
to Python 3: the custom iterators should define a '__next__' method
alias pointing to 'next'.

No, I installed version 349.16 using xorg-edgers, but it did not change
anything. I guess this is an regression issue with the kernel instead.
