I have the same issue - and I've been trying to report it for ages but
the Launchpad janitor kept closing it.
For me in a normal unity session it results in a reduced graphical
interface and the only solution is to log out and back in again to
reload gnome settings daemon.

Same bug occuring on Precise 12.04 Alpha 2 - gnome settings daemon crashes on
start up with a fully up to date system.
This results in reduced graphics for some icons and unity does not load all
icons.
