[Bug 1001689] Re: Open With SubDownloader command doesn't work on Nautilus

2019-08-22 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
BTW, since 2014 subdownloader in debian/ubuntu is shipping a patch
dropping MimeType, so it is not appearing in the "open with" menu. Some
kind of workaround.

I'm keeping this bug open, as I think we should support that use case
better.

[Bug 1735363] Re: inkscape: Port to Python 3

2019-08-05 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
The problem is that in the Linux world there is no real, final, decision on
what to do with the name "python". So, at least in Debian/Ubuntu, we have no
plans on having /usr/bin/python to ever
point to anything that is not Python 2. In Arch Linux, the situation is the
opposite instead…

There is https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0394/ that tried to reach a
conclusion, but it actually caused even more confusion, so the world is
all in flux.

Having said that, if you explicitly write "python3" you are quite sure
it will be run under python3, so it's generally a good idea, IMHO.

If there really are shebangs or calls to python instead of python3, but
the targets are compatible, then the distributions can patch those to
python3 as needed without much trouble anyway, so, for now, we can
consider this issue over. Later, in a few years, once the situation on
the interpreter name stabilizes, this choice can be reviewed.

[Bug 1803021] Re: No tutorials

2019-05-31 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
But Inkscape never shipped the "help", that's online (at least here,
clicking "help" → "Inkscape manual" opens a webpage). For the
tutorials, in my opinion not installing them by default is a feature, as
I'm very happy to do without some extra 55 MB.

In gimp, if I try to open the manual it offers a very nice window
telling me that it's not installed and that I can either read it online
or install the required package.

I.e. I fail to see any bug here.

If you are talking about the general tendency to not install such big
documentation by default, you'd have to bring that up in the debian-
devel@, as it's really something coming from Debian, rather than Ubuntu,
and it wouldn't really make sense to report it as a bug.

[Bug 1322024] Re: Make Hexchat the default IRC client instead of XChat in Ubuntu 14.10 and later versions

2019-05-26 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
xchat is back, and Gianfranco wants to keep it.

Also, I see little value in a transitional package or similar when they
can't be upgraded from one to the other seamlessly. I'm therefore

[Bug 1830246] Re: hexchat is crashing every time it is closed

2019-05-26 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
** Description changed:

- hexchat is crashing here since I upgraded to 19.04.
+ [ Impact ]

- I think hexchat is still the same version as before, but it crashes
- almost every time.
+ When using hexchat with its hexchat-python3 plugin, coupled with python
+ 3.7, hexchat crashes while unloading the python3 plugin.

- Just launch hexchat and connect to a network and a channel. then click the
close button of the window.
- You will then get the dialog "hexchat is not responding..." "quit or kill".
+ This has been reported upstream and fixed in Fedora with the same patch.

- I got this when launched from a terminal:
+ [ Test case ]
+
+ 1. install hexchat hexchat-python3
+ 2. start `hexchat` from a terminal
+ 3. quit hexchat
+
+ The test is successful (the bug is fixed) if the process exits 0.
+ With this bug, the test above fails printing this in the terminal:

Fatal Python error: PyInterpreterState_Delete: remaining subinterpreters

- when run with `hexchat -n`, there is no crash...
- so it's the python addon ?
+ [ Regression Potential ]

- ProblemType: Bug
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.04
- Package: hexchat 2.14.2-3
- ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.0.0-15.16-generic 5.0.6

- ApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu27
- Architecture: amd64
- CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME
- Date: Thu May 23 17:11:43 2019
- InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-05-07 (380 days ago)
- InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180426)
- ProcEnviron:
- TERM=xterm-256color
- PATH=(custom, no user)
- XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=
- LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8
- SHELL=/bin/bash
- SourcePackage: hexchat
- UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to disco on 2019-04-18 (34 days ago)
+ The code changes only affect the python plugin, so the core
+ functionalities of the program will be unaffected.
+
+ Also, the patch has been in use in Fedora for months, with no known
+ regressions, as well as being ACKed by the upstream maintainer.

[Bug 1827138] Re: inkscape colors

2019-05-05 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Hi,

do you have any chance of trying to reproduce it on a newer inkscape?
Either a system running ubuntu 19.04 disco, or taking the package from
https://launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/+archive/ubuntu/stable would do.

After that, if it's still reproducible it would be great if you could
also test with the alpha release 1.0, but that definitely requires a
newer system than xenial, and it's a development version, so please
don't use it in production.

[Bug 1820798] Re: hardening-check: add support for detecting stack clash protected binaries

2019-04-20 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Could you please submit this in the form of a MR against
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/devscripts ?

I would be happy to review and merge such contribution once an MR is
opened there (as a first look the patch doesn't look crazy, but I would
need to look deeper - I'm not familiar with that particular script).

The hardening-check script does not have a test suite, but if you could
also consider contributing one (since it's perl, just add a test/t
/hardening-checks.t using Test::More) it would be really awesome (not
required to get this patch merged, though)

Also, I would love if you could refrain from uploading such diffs to
Ubuntu, given that I'm open to get such changes in Debian directly
(removing ~ubuntu-sponsors as such…)

[Bug 1803021] Re: No tutorials

2019-02-17 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
I know, but the thing is that I haven't heard of any real transition
plan, I just know that the issue tracker is open on gitlab and you
welcome bugs there.

I understand the pain though, and I definitely do not plan on helping out with
handling the ton of bugs that are stuck here, I'm way too scared by their
number! :)
So I'll gently turn down your offer…

Oh, that's handy, thank you Max.

You may wish to add a milestone for inkscape in this bug (I just added
the task, but I don't have bug supervisor powers for inkscape (upstream)
bugs), I'll see if I can backport it in the debian package for 0.92.x.

[Bug 1815694] Re: GLib-CRITICAL and does not start

2019-02-13 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Note how the reporter runs Linux Mint though.

I'm striving to keep Debian and Ubuntu in syncs, so I'd rather have such
changes in Debian, but I think I need more details on what's the bug here.
Surely we can reassign this to the icon package if that's the case.

Also, is it really fine for inkscape to "emergency exit" just because it
can't find an icon? It feels like it could handle the situation more
gracefully.

i.e. that's a generic string used by many other functions, including the

[Bug 1812471] Re: inkscape don't started

2019-01-26 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
I can't understand that problem, I think your system is broken somewhat,
since files that should be there are not there.

And for sure inkscape is not at fault here, at most it would be
gtkmm2.4's. but I really can't imagine how that could happen.

2019-01-26 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Those are not useful, since inkscape 0.92 as shipped in Debian uses
gtk2, not 3.

Anyway, that means somehow your installation of libgtkmm-2.4-1v5 is broken,
please try reinstalling it with
apt install --reinstall libgtkmm-2.4-1v5
and those 2 files I mentioned should pop up. Afterwards try to lunch inkscape
again.

Could you please check if you have this file available?
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgtkmm-2.4.so.1.1.0
If you have that, you should also have
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgtkmm-2.4.so.1

Right, and the error message goes away once you install that package.

I don't plan to patch inkscape to change that string (and it wouldn't

[Bug 651586] Re: Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox spellcheck has too many languages

2019-01-07 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
We just had another package that likes and wants more symlinks, and I'm
going to approve that and add more symlinks. I don't think removing
them is the way to go atm, rather firefox and thunderbird could do
something to deduplicate them (but it needs to be clever, as not
necessarily all en_* (or whatever) are the same).

Umh, I somehow completely ignored that bug sorry!
Guess that one could be also taken care of by a check on dpkg's version,
disabling support for the (willingly undocumented) BUILDSUBDIR option.

[Bug 1799568] [NEW] [ubuntu-archive-assistant] not installed

2018-10-23 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Public bug reported:

Hi

So I'm now releasing version 0.166, since there is an RC bug.

ubuntu-archive-assistant is not being installed, and after I looked at
why, I saw you:

* didn't add the required build-deps (I fixed this myself)
* didn't add the script to setup.py
* the new module is not within ubuntutools/ - this is actually a bothersome
issue, since adding a separate top-level module would require a new binary
package to comply with the debian python policy.

These are some of the issues I would have expected to catch if you had
used a MR instead of pushing straight to master.

So please now actually integrate your work within the rest of the
package, instead of just dumping it there.

In the meantime, the new script is not installed.

[Bug 1762890] Re: build fails in multi-arch environment (missing changes file)

2018-10-12 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
It's just that by default it is expecting the chroot to be of the same
architecture of the host system, unless instructed otherwise.

Fixed that particular case here of the .changes file, but I wouldn't be
surprised if anything else was doing same bad assumption.

commit the relevant change to pbuilder's git, just removing the option.

If needed dpkg-buildpackage uses it by default anyway.

Sure, that script has been dropped upstream in 2016, so of course the
