[Bug 1450790] Re: Phone not connecting to mobile data until rebooting

2015-05-02 Thread Michael Zanetti
I deleted all the gprs files as instructed. Still no change. Had to
reboot every time I needed mobile data. Attached the latest forensics
logs.

[Bug 1450790] Re: Phone not connecting to mobile data until rebooting

2015-05-01 Thread Michael Zanetti
Hi Tony,

No, I only have one SIM in there. That one is indeed PIN-locked.

list-modems: http://paste.ubuntu.com/10966553/
list-contexts: http://paste.ubuntu.com/10966559/

Also you're right that I did enter the SIM PIN wrong every once in a
while, as I often reboot during walking outside I made some typos in
entering the pin. However, IIRC I always entered the correct PIN on the
second attempt at latest.

I don't recall using the APN editor, at least I didn't enter some APN
setting somewhere. I did try to manually select the network operator
hoping I could get a connection without having to reboot - without
success.

I'll do the proposed reset now and will report back the results
tomorrow.

[Bug 1450790] [NEW] Phone not connecting to mobile data until rebooting

2015-05-01 Thread Michael Zanetti
Public bug reported:

Whenever I walk out of WiFi range, my phone does not connect to mobile
data. Toggling flight mode does not help. I have to reboot the phone.
When then I finally manage to connect after rebooting, if the signal
strength drops and the phone would want to switch from 3G to 2G, it
disconnects and I have to reboot again to get mobile data.

[Bug 1447332] [NEW] alarms sceduled within the current minute trigger immediately

2015-04-22 Thread Michael Zanetti
Public bug reported:

Use case: a countdown timer.

As an app might be suspended by the time the countdown hits 0, currently
the alarm api is the only way to create such apps. However, for that use
case there would be a requirement for second-precision at least.

Currently, when a countdown is set to some few seconds, staying within
the current minute, the alarm will trigger immediately when it is synced
to the datetime-indicator, instead of waiting for the time to trigger.

If the alarm is longer, passing the next minute, it seems to actually
trigger it on the right time.

Here's an countdown app for testing that sets a countdown to 20 secs

[Bug 1439173] [NEW] some -dev packages missing in SDK chroot for packages that are in the framework

2015-04-01 Thread Michael Zanetti
Public bug reported:

There are some packages in the Ubuntu touch frameworks where the
according -dev packages are missing in the chroot. Right now those come
to my mind:

qtpim5-dev
libssl-dev

[Bug 1438393] Re: Cannot authenticate to swingbyswing.com

2015-03-31 Thread Michael Zanetti
The reply is in json format. However, the content type header is set to
text/html for some reason. I assume it would work for the else if
branch too, as that one seems to fall back to the jsonParser if the
plaintextParser fails. Haven't tried it though and I wiped my device
with this branch already.

[Bug 1438695] [NEW] Apps with OA plugin trigger a popup about an error on every run

2015-03-31 Thread Michael Zanetti
Public bug reported:

For applications that have an OA plugin, every time one runs the app, a
popup comes up about some build errors. This error has to be ignored in
order to continue running the application. Please remove that popup as
it's quite annoying (even steals focus when you're in a different app
and all).

[Bug 1438072] [NEW] QCameraInfo::availableCameras() returns empty list on qtubuntu, works on xcb

2015-03-30 Thread Michael Zanetti
Public bug reported:

Based on [1] I've created a small sample app to verify the issue and
indeed it seems to be broken. QCameraInfo::availableCameras() returns an
empty list on the BQ phone. It works if the same application is run on
X11. Attached you'll find the sample app to reproduce. Watch out for the
qDebug() print in main.cpp.

[Bug 1436427] Re: Turning off WiFi doesn't set a route after the modem connects data

2015-03-28 Thread Michael Zanetti
@Tony

Today I left home twice, once it worked fine, the other time I ran into
this again. This kinda matches my experience of running into this every
other time I leave home. Maybe a bit less. I would estimate it to about
40% of the times I leave my home. Reproducing it manually by turning
WiFi off doesn't trigger it as often as with walking out WiFi range.

For me it definitely doesn't recover on its own, at least not with just
waiting a few minutes. However, toggling flight mode on the phone
usually makes the connection recover for me.

IMO this is quite critical, and even if it would recover on its own
after a while, there's nothing more annoying than being on the go and
first having to toggle flight mode, or waiting 10 minutes before being
able to use the map, or quickly googling something.

Today for example we went for a walk, and after walking for some 20
minutes I wanted to look up the map. Pulled out the phone, the indicator
says H, I open the map and it doesn't load. Knowing that mobile data
can be flaky at times, I waited for about 5 minutes for the map, keeping
on tapping the screen in order to not get the map app suspended. Then I
decided to toggle flight mode which then finally got me some map data.
By then obviously we already walked in some wrong direction and were on
our way back already. So this issue has the characteristic to always
strike when you quickly need some mobile data.

[Bug 1436724] Re: No prompt to unlock sim after airplane mode

2015-03-26 Thread Michael Zanetti
@Albert, the bq hardware seems to be a bit special in that it turns off
the modem completely in flight mode and loses the unlocked state. Ubuntu
touch itself doesn't require to re-enter the sim pin after flight mode.
On the nexus 4 for instance, the SIM card stays unlocked.

[Bug 1436630] Re: must unlock screen even if it was only off for a few seconds

2015-03-26 Thread Michael Zanetti
Daniel, setting the screen to only lock after 10 minutes is not an
option.

This setting needs to be split up into two:

* Turn off screen after ...
and
* Lock screen after ...

[Bug 1436458] Re: Restart function is no longer needed

2015-03-26 Thread Michael Zanetti
How is this in terms of convergence? Will Ubuntu Desktop not have a
restart option any more either? Removing that option from unity8 will
also remove it for the desktop - unless we treat it special. But then in
theory unity8 shouldn't even care about whether it's a desktop or a
phone or a tablet and right now doesn't have that information either.

I for one still believe those settings should be separate... Those are
different settings for other phones (probably nor all of them) and also
on Ubuntu Desktop. Just because the the screen saver kicks in you don't
necessarily require the user to authenticate again.

Anyhow, clearly a question for ubuntu-ux.

I managed to enter the wrong PUK for a SIM card for 10 times in a row

[Bug 1426400] Re: Time zone selection is really weird

2015-03-10 Thread Michael Zanetti
Sebastien, yes, Ulm is indeed there, but hidden way down the list
because there's a lot of other cities that have ulm in the name. I
just missed it in the noise.

Matthew: Living in central Europe, whenever I set up a timezone in a
device, I usually do this: I search for Europe which then usually
brings a list with:

Europe (London/Lisbon)
Europe (Amsterdam/Berlin/Rome)
Europe (Helsinki/Bucharest)

Not sure what's the correct way forward here, as Sebastien has valid
arguments too. I still think the current huge list is not the ideal
solution and I for one would probably still prefer one entry per time
zone and continent. So that for example UTC can be found by:

Europe (London/Lisbon)
Africa (Casablanca/Ivory coast)

This picture does it pretty much as I'd expect:
http://i.imgur.com/rwi3XSJ.png

It doesn't have all the cities in there, but it doesn't need to. Instead
it would be much better to have a smaller set of entries and actually
sorted by timezone (not by city name).

[Bug 1426400] [NEW] Time zone selection is really weird

2015-02-27 Thread Michael Zanetti
Public bug reported:

The time zone selection in the settings app is really weird:

It asks me to enter my current location which already seems odd.
= I try Blaustein, no results
= I try Ulm, which is the closest next bigger city, no results
= I try Berlin, as that seems to be a known city for time zone settings,
suddenly I 12 results for Berlin, each them being a tiny part of the city where
I've never heard the name of. Which one should I select? They're all the same
in terms of time zone, aren't they?

IMO, the settings app should have a list of predefined timezones like pretty
much any other device has, means having entries like

Europe Helsinki
Europe Berlin/Amsterdam/Rome
Europe London/Lisbon
etc

The textfield on top should then filter the entries...

In any case, if we want to have the selection based on the user's real
location, we need to have a database including *all* cities, perhaps
even villages. If not, 1 entry per time zone should be enough.

I for one would prefer the 1 entry per time zone, with their commonly
known names.

[Bug 1415509] [NEW] Secure Simple Pairing dialogs not implemented yet

2015-01-28 Thread Michael Zanetti
Public bug reported:

Right now, only Bluetooth legacy pairing (and I think SSP - JustWorks)
is supported by the system settings. That means, newer keyboards,
requiring Secure Simple Pairing with DisplayPin/EnterPin modes can't be
paired from the ui.

This is the dialog that's missing on the touch version of system
settings in order to pair newer keyboards:
http://i.imgur.com/TetqbWJ.png

At the moment, it is required to use bluez-simple-agent from commandline
to pair such a keyboard. For completeness, this is the steps required to
pair from command line:

* put keyboard into discovery mode
* hcitool scan
* bluez-simple-agent hci0 device-addr
* now bluez-simple-agent will instruct you to enter that pin, like the missing
dialog should do
* qdbus --system org.bluez /org/bluez/hci0/device-addr
org.bluez.Input.Connect()
* Now go to the system settings app, and check the Connect automatically when
detected box

[Bug 1400827] Re: BlueZ crashing when connecting input channel to a keyboard

2015-01-13 Thread Michael Zanetti
Actually no, sorry. I can connect a keyboard now sometimes. But it still
crashes BlueZ most of the times which makes it a very unreliable
experience.

[Bug 1410227] Re: unity8-dash doesn't resume from suspend

2015-01-13 Thread Michael Zanetti
The dash isn't suspended. Also your ps output shows it running. Can you
please check if the bottom edge swipe is still working in those cases?

[Bug 1408643] [NEW] Header divider is invisible on very dark backgrounds

2015-01-08 Thread Michael Zanetti
Public bug reported:

The color for the header divider is calculated by
Qt.darker(backgroundColor). If backgroundColor is already very dark or
black, this leads to an invisible header divider. Probably it needs to
check for a certain darkness threshold and use
Qt.lighter(backgroundColor) instead.

Ideally the app developer could also override the color for the divider
so that it can match the foregroundColor, meaning the divider would be
the same color as the text and icons inside the header.

** Affects: ubuntu-ui-toolkit (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
