2024-04-14 Thread MichaelB
Same here.. I upgraded from 22.04 (upgrade failed but i managed to
install missing packages with dpkg --configure -a, apt install -f, apt
upgrade.. but it's not our issue in this thread)

When we click on nautilus icon, nothing happen (on wayland)

michael@michael-ubuntu:~$ nautilus

If i close the session and start with xorg it's fine, nautilus opened.

[Bug 1924624] Re: After upgrade to 5.8.0-49/5.8.0-50 with Intel graphics (Gen7: Haswell/Ivy Bridge) a lot of glitches render screen unusable

2021-05-03 Thread MichaelB
5.8.0-52 in proposed works for me. Thanks!

But why wait more than 2 weeks to resolve it?
Thousands of computers are directly impacted and unusable and not everyone know
how they can change his kernel version on boot. Only around me, 4 people are
impacted and also myself on 2 computers.

[Bug 1880178] [NEW] Regression: Cannot shutdown or reboot with 5.3.0-53-generic kernel (18.04) Lenovo ThinkCentre M75s

2020-05-22 Thread MichaelB
Public bug reported:

Hi,

>From 5.3.0-53-generic kernel our computer cannot shutdown or reboot
anymore. It was ok with 5.3.0-51-generic.

Last things in syslog is "Stopping Accounts service..." and then screen
become off but power led still green and nothing happen (no stop or no
reboot). Same behavior with a reboot...

It's happening with a Lenovo ThinkCentre M75s / Ubuntu 18.04
I tested with another computer and it's fine.

Hi,

After this update (237-3ubuntu10.29) on this morning (11 sept.) my system no
more booting!
Black screen after grub, select other kernel but nothing works. I suppose it is
linked with this update...

...
Failed to start Network Manager
Dependency failed for Network Manager Wait Online

237-3ubuntu10.28 (ok) -> 237-3ubuntu10.29 (fail)

How to resolve that? I have no more network.. and my system is blocked.

Thanks for your help.

[Bug 1782719] Re: Duplex not working upon update to 2.2.7-1ubuntu2.1

2019-08-22 Thread MichaelB
I have not exactly the same problem but it is probably related.

On Ubuntu 18.04.3, i choose Duplex "Long Edge" but it print a single-
sided PDF document.. It was working on Ubuntu 16.04.x.. I tried Ubuntu
19.04 and it works too.

I use Evince for my PDF. If i choose another pdf reader like qpdfview
it's works like expected.

I tried lp command for testing and it's work:
lp -d MP-2352 -o Duplex=DuplexNoTumble testfile.pdf

I also tried to print a text document from gedit with Duplex "Long Edge"
and it's not working. I got one side page.

A document printed with LibreOffice works like expected.

We use Ubuntu 18.04 on our company and is important to fix it because we are
now unable to print PDF documents with two-side..

Thanks.

[Bug 1829718] [NEW] Network printers (cups-browsed) disappear after each CUPS update on client side

2019-05-20 Thread MichaelB
Public bug reported:

Hi,

We have a cups server (ubuntu) that centralize all our network printers.
Each desktop users on Ubuntu (16.04, 18.04) are looking in that print
server to retrieve those printers. It works fine but...

# /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf in a desktop user
...
BrowseRemoteProtocols cups dnssd
BrowsePoll 192.168.10.80:631 # CUPS server
...

Each time that an CUPS update is applied on the client side all printers
disappear from the listing and users are unable to print. So i have to
connect to xxx computers in our company to restart the cups-browsed
service...

This problem exist from some years.. but still not resolved and i didn't
found a way to fix it.

Workaround:
- sudo service cups-browsed restart OR reboot the computer

Thanks!

2017-12-19 Thread MichaelB
Just test it with Ubuntu 17.10 (Evince 3.26.0) and problem persist!

It is impossible to SAVE (overwrite) the opened pdf file when this file
is in a CIFS mount point (fstab). It appear a permission error.. and
much more bad, the file is totally erased!!

Please correct this problem.. and for the upcoming 18.04 LTS.

Thanks!

So in my case it doesn't work with this workaround because i use a CIFS

Someone can propose another workaround that work with cifs file mounted
in fstab??

[Bug 1567565] Re: Permission error saving a file

2017-05-29 Thread MichaelB
Same problem here, all our files are on a NAS (cifs share). Ubuntu 16.04
/ Evince 3.18.2

When we want to "edit" a pdf file with evince (create annotation in my
case) and overwrite the file.. is not possible, i got the same error
"Error renaming temporary file: Permission denied". So we still work
with Adobe Acrobat PRO by example and this is stupid because this
functionality work great with local file in evince.

I'll test the workaround proposed by Alex D (owner /**/.goutputstream-*
rw)

3 hours without problem, no more cifs flood.. :)

So, i will continue my test today, but apparently this bug is fixed in
your patched kernel.

If is confirmed, can you tell me approximatively when this kernel will
appear in the main ubuntu repository? (4.4, 4.8, 4.10)

2017-05-02 Thread MichaelB
I have 5 desktop on Ubuntu 16.04 with various official kernel 4.4, 4.8,

After some minutes of activity i got a high CIFS flood traffic between
desktop and server. Many giga per desktop are transferred!

CMD (on desktop): sudo tcpdump -p -s 0 port 445

Hi,

I have a big problem on Ubuntu 12.04.1 with acroread, evince, gedit,

If i click to open a pdf file in my exemple, acroread open but freezed
for some minutes. If i open the document with evince, nothing appear but
process is running. After some minutes document appear to the screen...
like is unblocked...

In /var/log/syslog appear that:

blocked for more than 120 seconds.

Is just not usable like that because the system have to use suspend mode. I
don't know if is a Kernel problem or CIFS.

Thanks,
Michael

[Bug 924314] [NEW] CIFS/SMB not support sec=ntlmssp option in lucid

2012-01-31 Thread MichaelB
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have a Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a company and are unable to acces to a
share folder hosted by a Mac mini server (Lion).

1° From Nautilus Connect to server, i can connect but unable to write
a file inside (but i see the folder content), user permission are right
because it work on windows xp, same problem on Ubuntu 11.10..

2° Add a permanant folder in /etc/fstab dont work (i saw some where that i have
to use line below but it not work)
//xx.xx.xx.xx/my_folder /mnt/my_folder cifs
credentials=/home/xxx/.smbcredentials,rw,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,nounix,noserverinfo,sec=ntlmssp
 0 0

This line work on the current Ubuntu 11.10 but not 10.04.. The option
ntlmssp are not know by the cifs lucid version..

So, i'm unable to connect to that SMB folder (on Mac mini server Lion) with
Ubuntu 10.04 and have problem with 11.10 from Nautilus too..

Thanks in advance,
Michael

[Bug 872275] [NEW] Mouse click stop working.. (Xorg freeze ?)

2011-10-11 Thread MichaelB
Public bug reported:

Hi,

On Ubuntu 11.10 updated (11 oct 2011), interface unity2D, unity3D, Gnome
Shell.. After some minutes or manipulation on firefox, gedit, ... the
mouse stop working well, cursor can move but click seem to not work
anymore (cursor icon is sometimes blocked). Cannot select program,
cannot open unity sidebar, top bar dont respond.. is just unusable!

To fix temporaly the problem, i disconnected my USB mouse and reconnect, now
mouse click work again but not all the time.
I upgraded from 11.04 and have Ubuntu on that laptop from 5 years and never had
a problem like that.. and 2 days before release..

2011-10-10 Thread MichaelB
I suppose is the same bug.. In the lightdm login screen my mouse click dont
work sometimes.

little icon to select session, icon don't change, no reaction.. i can just
login with the previous session that i selected the last time, cannot reboot,
cannot shutdown..

It work again if i logon into a session and disconnect..

[Bug 577773] Re: gedit crashed with SIGSEGV in g_utf8_validate()

2010-05-21 Thread MichaelB
gedit 2.30.2-0ubuntu1 is the latest version and i didn't see a new one
in proposed..

I read the comment #5 and i tested something..

My default setting auto_detect encoding start with ISO-8859-1 and with this
gedit crash when a new empty file is created.
If a change this setting with auto_detect UTF-8 is OK i can open a empty file
without crash

[Bug 482486] Re: Ubuntu 9.10 and Vbox 3.0.8-3.0.10 lag issue in XP vm.

2009-12-02 Thread MichaelB
Ok so what is the solution right now because i can't work anymore with
virtualbox (i need that for some application that is not exist in
Ubuntu), xp is very too slow and this thing will force people to change
how they work with some virtual machine. I mean they will use a Dual-
boot instead a virtual machine or buy a new computer with a other OS...
and it is stupid because until now all was fine...

Is VirtualBox team can resolve this problem even Ubuntu timer is 100Hz ?

Or Ubuntu team can resolve that ?

[Bug 409761] [NEW] [LENOVO 2081CTO] hibernate/resume failure

2009-08-06 Thread MichaelB
Public bug reported:

The crash report tool keeps coming up with lots of reports like this
since a recent update I did on my Lenovo T500. I think I just canceled
about 6 of them.'

The result of the problem is when I open up the shutdown window and
press hibernate it will freeze, even the button remains depressed.
Eventually the window shuts and the computer does not go into
hibernation. Which is really annoying when going around UNI.

Everything was working until recently.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 alpha with all the latest update installed.

[Bug 363812] Re: Ericsson F3507g (0bdb:1900) - does not display in NetworkManager, tho USB ACM devices are registered

2009-07-29 Thread MichaelB
If it is of any interest,

I have a T500, which on Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 2 was not detecting the device
(not shown in lsusb) but when I did the last update it started working.
I can now see this line in the lsusb output.

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0bdb:1900 Ericsson Business Mobile Networks BV

So maybe this could be marked as resolved in 9.10 ?
