[Bug 1643706] Re: snap apps need to be able to browse outside of user $HOME dir. for Desktop installs

2019-10-13 Thread Nidal R
VLC is a media player... Kind of like a text editor, Opening files from
arbritary locations is well within expected usage... At minimum, Snap
should allow users to open arbritary files via the open dialog. Or maybe
vlc should not be installed as a confined app..

[Bug 1170647] Re: After minimizing an external media, clicking on the Files icon on the Launcher doesn't restore the minimized window, but opens a new one

2014-10-22 Thread Nidal R
@ Alberto Salvia Novella Thanks for explaining this perfectly

Until I read #81, nautilus's behaviour was utterly erratic and
perplexing to me. This probably affects 99% of users. This problem is
exacerbated for users like me who keep most of their files in a separate
partition (for easy access in dual-boot windows/ubuntu setup).

This is clearly a UI FAIL. The icon in launcher is the same for
nautilus file manager and for home folder.

The simplest solution is to eradicate this distinction between File
manager window showing a home folder and file manager showing other
folders.

[Bug 1254451] [NEW] Cannot find Additional drivers (proprietary) for my nVidia graphics card

2013-11-24 Thread Nidal R
Public bug reported:

The Software Updates program cannot find the proprietary drivers for
my nVidia 620m graphics card. Unity cog menu 'About this computer'
doesn't even detect my nvidia card. It just says I have Intel® Ivybridge
Mobile.

Am on Ubuntu 13.10 which is fully updated.
My Laptop details :

Model : Acer Model V5 471G
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-3317U CPU

I tried installing it manually.. turned out to be a mess . Right now my
laptop is running with fan on full speed, cannot adjust screen
brightness, very low battery life compared to my windows 8 installation,
and hot as a friggin toaster. This problem is seriously affecting my

[Bug 751630] Re: Right click should present a context menu in unity dash

2012-02-19 Thread Nidal R
Where is this design discussion because this badly needs to be implemented.
More importantly where is the context-menu for files, such as very essential
options like Open with.., Properties etc.
If unity at least gave an Open Containing Folder.. option one could use
nautilus to perform advanced operations.

As it stands, Files folders can only be used to perform one task -
find and open the file with default program.

Why is it taking so long for the patch to be released? Is there no one

[Bug 704231] Re: Unity steals super modifier key

2011-08-22 Thread Nidal R
Agree with Cefn and Exquisite Dead Guy.

1. This behaviour breaks the functionality of Keyboard Shortcuts applet, (which
is included with Ubuntu) and does so without giving any reason or warning. This
makes for an inconsistent experience in Ubuntu.
Perhaps a seperate bug report should be made regarding this alone?

2. This even breaks functionality that would be considered part of core
desktop functionality such as Super + L to Lock Screen.

Very annoying.
