I don't agree with "Also note that clicking other than first column

I also have this on 2 of my desktops since kde 3.5.4
A way to reproduce at will is trying to do a snapshot with ksnapshot in area
mode, kwin crashes as soon as the snapshot is taken.
I have submitted upstream and it seems to be a duplicate of another
upstream bug with a temporary workaround.

I suspect you have the same behaviour as I do ie: kwin crashes and is
not restarted.
when you experience a crash try the following:
- go to console mode (CTRL-ALT-F1)
- log in with your kde user and do this :
$ export DISPLAY=:0
$ kwin
- go back to graphic mode with ALT-F7
all should return ba
