[Bug 201822] [NEW] glibc detected *** sudo: free(): invalid pointer: 0xb7ce3b28

2008-03-13 Thread patrice
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: Hardy Alpha 4

This problem occured on march 13th during a apt-get update using the
package managing tool in taskbar.

Last successful apt-get update: march 12th

Packages seem to have been downloaded, but I cannot confirm. When I
looked back at the window, a popup window said there was an error. And
now, using sudo apt-get ANYTHING gives the following:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo apt-get check

[Bug 1366829] [NEW] Updating to rsyslog - 7.4.4-1ubuntu2.1 makes rsyslogd to take all the CPU

2014-09-08 Thread Patrice
Public bug reported:

After updating rsyslog from 7.4.4-1ubuntu2 to 7.4.4-1ubuntu2.1 the rsyslogd
process started to take all the CPU on my machine.
The modification made by this release is described in #127, it is the
activation of KLogPermitNonKernelFacility option.
I don't know exactly of is the effect of this option but it seems to have a
permanent effect : even after downgrading the package or manually removing the
option from /etc/rsyslog.conf the issue remains.
My syslog is full of :
Sep 8 10:28:40 sentry rsyslogd: imklog: error reading kernel log - shutting
down: Bad file descriptor
Sep 8 10:28:40 sentry rsyslogd: message repeated 498 times: [imklog: error
reading kernel log - shutting down: Bad file descriptor]
Sep 8 10:28:46 sentry rsyslogd-2177: rsyslogd[internal_messages]: 519517
messages lost due to rate-limiting
I guess this is what causes the CPU load.

I am running Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS in an OpenVZ container on Proxmox 3.2.
The kernel is 2.6.32-28-pve

[Bug 214556] Re: [Hardy] Can't share files

2008-04-10 Thread Patrice Vetsel
DO :
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install samba libpam-smbpass

verify that your are in the group named sambashare. In terminal type
groups if not go to user.group management and yourself to this group
(samba share)

after that, logout and login

Create a dire named test on your desktop and try to share it

[Bug 214714] Re: Upgrading to Hardy destroyed my network shares and when I try to recreate them I get this long complicated error message

2008-04-14 Thread Patrice Vetsel
@mnemo : Adding usershare owner only = False makes my system usable
again

You mean that the shares you specifically mades with nautilus-share are
working ?

usershare owner only = false is a security problem, I think that we
will never put this inb smb.conf.

[Bug 58314] Computer totaly freezes after sleeping mode entering

2006-08-31 Thread Patrice KARATCHENTZEFF
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.15-26-amd64-generic-di

This is an old bug... I met it since the begining of Ubuntu... at the
begining, I guessed it was an Xorg bug (see my previous bug on xorg and
MGA card)...

I can produce this bug each time on two different machines (AMD64 and 32
CPU architecture, nVidia chipset on motherboard)

Each time the machine gets into a long sleep mode (not just after
entering into this mode), the machine is totaly frozen (no activity,
measured by munin daemon, no ping, no ssh session possible: the machine
is dead). Nothing special thing dectected by the munin daemon: I tried
to follow different daemon (MySQL, dbus, etc.) and all the things it is
able to monitor (CPU, context, memory, etc.) and nothing special
appears.

I checked the machine as it is possible I can: the cooling system is OK
and I ran many and kernels compilations in order to get warm the cpu and
to valid the cool system during hours and hours. It is OK.

I checked also the RAM hardware by running during one whole day the
memtest process. Nothing special to report.

This problem has a little bit disappeared with the 6.06 release: I can
have uptime on about 8 to 12 days (this is not a lot in any case! My
full Debian machine has sometime more than 6 months of uptime). I can't
have more than one day with 2.6.15-26 kernel (on the both nVidia
machine).

Here is my hardware conf on the AMD64:

2006-09-07 Thread VETSEL Patrice
For informations :
as dmidecode don't find informations for the chassis (bad bios i think), there
is a workaround in acpi.c
This workaround look if there is a battery bay or a LID button, and if yes, set
formfactor to laptop.
In devicemanager i'v battery bay.

All is in hald/linux2/osspec.c

I'v added a test because i suspect that
computer_probing_pcbios_helper_done is relaunched on computer object. So
if system.formfactor has already be set (by pmu/acpi/dmi) it's not
overwrited.

in debian/fontconfig-config.config we have :
if [ ! -f /etc/fonts/fonts.conf ]; then
  # This is a first install
  enable_bitmaps=false
else
  # We are upgrading. No file for bitmaps means:
  enable_bitmaps=true

I suspect that we have to remove the else loop like this :
if [ ! -f /etc/fonts/fonts.conf ]; then

[Bug 56682] Re: Raster fonts appear in Edgy

2006-09-18 Thread Patrice Vetsel
From iwj:
I have done a lot of experiments and I have concluded:
1. purging fontconfig-config and reinstalling it restores everything to
normality as expected (dpkg --purge --force-depends; dpkg -i);
2. It is possible to fix it with echo PURGE | debconf-communicate
fontconfig-config and then dpkg-reconfigure --default-priority
fontconfig-config

So i will do a fresh install tomorrow and close the bug if 30-debconf-
no... is well created.

You can look at #31136 for bug on loading acerhk module automatically

[Bug 62745] [time-admin] Synchronize Now don't work

2006-09-28 Thread Patrice Vetsel
Public bug reported:

By default on fresh edgy uptodate install with g-s-t 2.15.4-0ubuntu3 when you
go to Adjust Date time on time applet. Clicking on Synchronize Now do
nothing.
If you select Keep clock synchronized with internet servers, ubuntu install
required packages, after that you can deselect Keep clock synchronized with
internet servers and cliking now on Synchronize Now button works !

So :
1/ Synchronize Now have to be grayed if packages required are not installed
or
2/ Clicking on Synchronize Now must install packages required if they are not
already installed
or
3/ Packages required have to be installed by default

I think that 2/ is the better way to solve that. 3/ is the easy way.

Step to reproduce :
install edgy
right click on time applet
select Adjust DateTime
change your Time
click on Synchronize Now - nothing append
