I had to use the --indirect-rendering flag when I was using Compiz in
Ubunty 9.04 (Jaunty) because of the memory corruption bug. But again it
seams that I was lucky with 9.10 because I haven't experienced any
freezes on my system with the default intel drivers that came with it.

Using indirect rendering option for compiz solves this memory leak.
1. Press ALT+F2 and type:
gksudo gedit /usr/bin/compiz
or
open your console and type:
sudo gedit /usr/bin/compiz
2. At line 74 (or round 74) edit the line :
COMPIZ_OPTIONS=--ignore-desktop-hints --replace
and changed it into:

I have the same problem with Mustek gSmart 300 in Jaunty RC. Mustek
gSmart 300 is basically a webcam that was made to look as a digital
camera, has a very small inbuilt memory enough for taking 20-30 pictures
of 640x480. But the webcam functionality is the main reason people

Ok, just to be clear. I had to reinstall nvidia drivers with EnvyNG
every time i changed kernel. From 2.6.24-16 - 2.6.24-17,
2.6.24-17-2.6.24-18 etc. So I personally don't consider this as a bug,
but as something that has to be done every time we switch to a newer
kernel build. If this is a bug, I
linux-image-2.6.24-20-generic boots on my computer, but the Sound Card
is not detected!
