Does the Mouse settings use the syndaemon under the hood? If yes, that
could be the reason of the problem, as enabling the syndaemon with the
-t option results in the same state. However, using the interval value
and the -d option, it works just fine.

This bug affects me also. Neither I was able to find the triggering
reason. Happended to me 3 times in 2 hours of general desktop usage

Bug is reproducible with Thunderbird, although I still don't have a clue on
what triggers the bug.
In the buggy state, the mouse highlight GUI elements lower than the mouse
pointer actually is.
So, for example (with random numbers) if pointer.x = 100 pointer.y = 100,
then pointed.x = 120
I've found the triggering event: it's minimizing the window. Reproducibility
rate: every time.
Only happens to maximized windows. I have experienced this bug with Firefox,
Thunderbird, Steam, Virtuabox.
Temporary fix: as I mentioned before, unmaximizing and maximizing the window.

suggested in the askubuntu question above.
I did some research about it, and as I use English and Hungarian input sources,
I think that I don't need IBus at all. Should I worry about nasty side effects?
The bug disappeared
Today, I installed Ubuntu 14.04 64bit on a spare HDD, and applied all
updates. I checked whether the bug still affected the system. It did.
After that, I enabled the proposed repository and updated the system. I
can also confirm, that the new version of unity fixes the issue (I don't

Is it safe to rename those .desktop files?

This problem is quite critical in my opinion. Why? Because I want to
turn some users to Ubuntu (mostly parents who don't game, Photoshop,
etc., just average users), but I just couldn't do that, because then I
had to start with: Hey! There is a great open source operating system,
so cool, stable (…

The Trash folder is an important example for the bug, but it also
happens when Nautilus shows the contents of a pendrive or external HDD.

Public bug reported:
Presumably Unity, or in general the user interface of Ubuntu 15.04
(Vivid) suffers severe performance drops. To be more precise, when my
system happens to be in this state, every animation, like moving
windows, opening menus (fading in/out), or opening the dash is very
choppy
I think there is a chance that this phenomena is related to the native
Spotify client that I use regularly.

Indeed, the bug is still present. Interestingly, it wasn't present in
the beta version one month ago in a virtual machine installation - or at

Well, I think that we can rule out the proprietary Spotify client, as I
haven't been able to use it recently because of a missing (deprecated)
dependency. My current 15.04 installation is fairly new, as I returned
to 14.04.2 for a while, but decided again to use the newest development
version. I
