Same thing happened to me. Was changing icon themes when it crashed. All
panels disappeared and had to do Ctrl+ Alt + Backspace to get out and

I have faced the same problem and Ubuntu asked me to send a report,
which I did. The cause of the problem was that despite hitting enter
several times in the terminal window, when the license was displayed,
nothing happened. It simply hung in there. It was after many retries
that I hit Ctrl+C.
I used the apt-get manager to install sun jdk, that is why I was in the
terminal. For the time being I have installed open jdk instead of the
sun jdk 1.6.

You are right. This bug is not reproducible in the apport/coredump
sense. But Audacity indeed does report a crash when I start it next time
if I had closed it earlier with a project open and the recording monitor

It happened again. I logged on, opened an mp3 file by right clicking on
it and opening with Audacity, and then close the window. And the same
SIGSEV fault happened.
I was not able to reproduce it in the same session.

I had installed ubuntu 13.10 first then I uninstalled because of this

Also nothing was found in /var/crash/* too.
