after installing latest updates pushed today, upon reboot I received

Upgraded using the Upgrade Wizard, and it locked up at
Generating locales...
en_AU.UTF-8...
Dropped into a shell and issued sudo killall locale-gen and it moved
on...
Good thing I have more than one computer. I can see this being devastating for
someone with only one
Oh, and this was on Kubuntu where I experienced the error.

Here's what I did --
killed the wizard
dropped into a shell
issueddpkg --configure -a
opened another shell
issued sudo killall locale-gen every time it locked up on
some language thing
it finally finished
then reboot
pick a different kernel when grub starts.
dont' pick a
I updated 4 machines yesterday and had no issues at all by using
kernel 14.
