[Bug 1092675] Re: Conflict installing LAMP apache2/mysql/php5 with aptitude
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I can reproduce the behaviour you have described in 12.04. If you use sudo aptitude --safe-resolver install apache2 php5 libapache2-mod-php5 mysql-server, then this should work non-interactively. Or just accept the solution suggested, or use apt-get instead. I don't see a problem with the dependencies specified in the apache2 package. I don't see this as a problem in aptitude either, since it is able to suggest and provide a solution. As you haven't explained why this is a bug, and I don't see that it is a bug, I'm marking this as Invalid. [Bug 1092826] Re: libvirt client doesn't handle EINTR signal properly
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This appears already fixed in the current development release, so I'm marking this Fix Released. If you'd like this fixed in Precise, then I think this is a reasonable candidate for a stable release update, but we'll need a test case to reproduce the problem for verification of a fix. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Bug 1090593] Re: D.ROOT-SERVERS.NET changing January 3rd 2013
Considering it's such an easy patch, no reason not to apply it though. For the development release, it adds extra work to whoever does merges in the future, and introduces the risk of an accidental regression if not everything through to upstream has updated before Ubuntu. But if you get the change in Debian, then Ubuntu will in time merge it without any further ado. To update stable releases, Even the simplest of changes can cause unexpected regressions due to lurking problems. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates I'm reluctant to push for this unless a clear consensus is reached, somebody points out exactly what we've done in the past, or an experienced Ubuntu developer tells me otherwise. I think the best place to seek consensus on this is the ubuntu-server mailing list. If others agree that the change is worth it, then, as you say, it's trivial to actually do and I'd be happy to see it through. Otherwise, this will get fixed in time as the change filters through from upstream. This seems to me to be the path of least resistance, especially because I don't think changing it earlier will result in any real practical benefit. Anyone who cares enough is presumably already running configuration management and can just change the conffile anyway. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to bind9 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1090593 Title: D.ROOT-SERVERS.NET changing January 3rd 2013 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bind9/+bug/1090593/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1097776] [NEW] genshi 0.6-2ubuntu1 FTBFS on amd64 in raring
Public bug reported: Also affects genshi 0.6-3 in sid, which should be able to be synced as the entire Ubuntu delta has been taken up in Debian. The problem is that raring's python2.7 incorporates changeset http://hg.python.org/cpython/rev/eb7ea51e658e/ which changed the definition of tokenize.PseudoToken which genshi depends on. This causes an infinite loop in genshi's test suite. Reported upstream at http://genshi.edgewall.org/ticket/540 Workaround: change the definition of PseudoToken in genshi.template.interpolation to be hardcoded to what Python defined it as before (eg. from quantal). This seems to work and I have a patch, but I'd like to hear what upstream think about it or if there is a better fix. In the meantime, genshi will also FTBFS due to what I think is a Python regression which I'll report separately, so might as well hold off on a fix until that is resolved. ** Affects: genshi (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Triaged ** Changed in: genshi (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: genshi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to genshi in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1097776 Title: genshi 0.6-2ubuntu1 FTBFS on amd64 in raring To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/genshi/+bug/1097776/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1097783] [NEW] Regression: some python library functions return wrong types
Public bug reported: In raring, some library functions are returning longs instead of ints. This is different from behaviour in quantal. This is causing an FTBFS in genshi due to doctest failures. Building from upstream source exhibits correct behaviour, including from upstream orig tarballs and upstream 2.7 hg tip. But if I build using the packaging, I get the problem (including sid and experimental). So I presume the problem is in Debian's packaging. [Bug 1099793] Re: php 5.3.10 openssl_encrypt empty data
Confirmed, and I've found the fix. This is https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=61413 fixed in http://git.php.net/?p =php-src.git;a=commit;h=270a406ac94b5fc5cc9ef59fc61e3b4b95648a3e and released upstream in 5.3.14. This is due to i remaining uninitialised in the case of input data of zero size. I also think this is a security issue, since it results in the encrypted data containing arbitrary memory contents which could subsequently be leaked to a web user. This could contain things like a mysql password or other secrets. The attached debdiff fixes this bug. I've tested that it builds and upgrading fixes the issue. [Bug 1004162] Re: Samba won't change from wired to wireless NIC in same session
Thank you for your report. Please can you specify exactly what you mean by ...it can no longer access shares on main.? What method are you using to access shares? What happens when it works, and what happens when it doesn't? If you aren't already, then please also use smbclient to try and access shares (both with -L to see if shares are available, and //server/sharename to see if you can connect), and report the results. Please also attach the output of ip addr and ip route in both the working and non-working wireless situations. Finally, please use tcpdump and report the source IP address being used (or being attempted to be used) to access your share in both the working and non-working wireless situations. [Bug 571572] Re: krb5 prefers the reverse pointer no matter what for locating service tickets.
To answer questions about getting an update into 12.04, we need (from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates): An impact statement which explains who this bug affects (use cases), why this is a problem and why we need an update in 12.04 for it. A test case with exact steps to reproduce the problem, so that we can verify any backported fix. Confirmation that this is fixed in the development release (Raring). A patch to fix this issue in Precise. Ideally this would be a pointer to the upstream commit and apply cleanly. Discussion of possible regressions to existing users, particularly any change in behaviour that an existing user not affected by this bug might get angry about, and areas where a regression is likely to be found if one does exist so that the SRU verification team can try and find them. All of this information gathered together in one place for the SRU team to review. I am familiar with Kerberos and have spent my share of time debugging DNS-related Kerberos issues, but I'm read through this bug and although I have some idea I don't feel that I'm completely clear on answers to these questions. If somebody can help with this paperwork, point out the upstream commit to cherry-pick and there is consensus on all of this, I think there's enough here to warrant an update to 12.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to krb5 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571572 Title: krb5 prefers the reverse pointer no matter what for locating service tickets. [Bug 1103362] Re: Precise: Squid3 does not start if ACL's require DNS lookups
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I think it's reasonable to request that bind9 have an upstart job, in order to permit better dependency management for services that depend on bind9. But I'm not sure about making the squid3 depend on bind9. I understand why this is required in your case, but your configuration strikes me as quite unusual so I'm not sure if it is applicable to all users. And we would also need to handle the case when bind9 is not installed. If we end up not doing this in the general case, then is the kind of case where I'd expect you to override your squid3 upstart job dependencies by hand, using the mechanisms already provided by upstart to do this (eg. http://web.archive.org/web/20110811021301/http://upstart.at/2011/03/11 /override-files-in-ubuntu-natty/) Marking this as Triaged, since what you are requesting is clear to developers. And adding a bind9 task for the upstart job. But I'd prefer to consult with others about a job start dependency from squid3 to bind9, since I think this is a more general issue that applies wider than just squid3. ** Changed in: squid3 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: squid3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Also affects: bind9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: bind9 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: bind9 (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Triaged ** Changed in: bind9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to squid3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1103362 Title: Precise: Squid3 does not start if ACL's require DNS lookups To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bind9/+bug/1103362/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1103362] Re: Precise: Squid3 does not start if ACL's require DNS lookups
Maybe it could depend on some other well-known event that bind9 could emit... But nothing would be there to emit that on a system that doesn't do its own DNS. This is why the only reasonable answer I can give is to expect sysadmins who need this kind of complex setup to add overrides to their upstart job configuration. This does require the bind9 job to be converted to upstart of course, and I think this would be reasonable. I am sorry I cannot be of any help on this, but I am open for testing any solution during the development. [Bug 1103353] Re: Invalid GnuTLS cipher suite strings causes libldap to crash
Thank you for your detailed investigation into this. I appreciate the time you've spent on this. Marking as medium importance, since a workaround is available (which I believe is to fix the cipher suite string to something valid, right?) If the Ubuntu OpenLDAP developers and users can confirm the bug, and that this patch fixes the issue, it would be easier to push the patch upstream. This is reasonable, although I'm not sure there are enough Ubuntu OpenLDAP developers to make this likely. Until then this bug may sit unattended, but your writeup will at least help others so I appreciate it being here. For anyone else who comes across this: please mark it as affects me too. If you can spare time to work on it, please confirm that it affects Ubuntu, check to see if the upstream non-packaged release is affected, look towards getting this reported upstream and note any new information or progress here. We can certainly patch the Ubuntu package if the bug and patch can be verified. But if upstream commit it and/or acknowledge the bug, that really makes things easier. The cron job you posted should not be able to cause a system reboot. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. From your stack trace, it looks likely to me that the crash is in libtdb rather than winbind itself, unless winbind is corrupting memory somehow. Can you check all tdb files for corruption using tdbtool (I presume this needs to be done when winbind and samba are shut down), and if you are able then run winbind under valgrind? [Bug 1101002] Re: Frequently stops working for 15-30 seconds at a time on Ubuntu 12.10
Thanks for the extra information. Based on these logs, bind9 is behaving as expected, but your system is querying the dnsmasq and not bind, so this is why it's not working for you. Since this isn't a bug in bind9, I'm marking this bug as invalid in bind9. The instructions you've followed need to be updated, since editing resolv.conf manually does not work by itself since 12.04. See https://www.stgraber.org/2012/02/24/dns-in-ubuntu-12-04/ for details. I understand what you're trying to do and why you're trying to do it, but it won't work the way you're trying to do it. Specifying two resolv.conf nameserver entries that return different responses as your guide does it is wrong anyway. Since Ubuntu desktop uses dnsmasq since 12.04, the easiest way to achieve what you need might be to adapt the dnsmasq section of the guide you're using, but I'm not familiar enough with dnsmasq to give you guidance here. In any case, as this isn't a bug this bug tracker isn't really the right venue. You could try looking on askubuntu.com and ask on there if you can't find an existing question that solves your problem. ** Changed in: bind9 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to bind9 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1101002 Title: Frequently stops working for 15-30 seconds at a time on Ubuntu 12.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bind9/+bug/1101002/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1090593] Re: D.ROOT-SERVERS.NET changing January 3rd 2013
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + named may use the wrong server for D.ROOT-SERVERS.NET on startup, as the + IP address is changing. This will cause a startup delay as it times out + and bootstraps from another root server instead. In the worst case, a + malicious actor on the old IP could subvert DNS. + + From the other direction, we should not cause unnecessary load on an IP + address that is no longer a root server. + + [Test Case] + + It isn't really possible to effectively test this change, since named + will automatically use any available root server. + + It will suffice just to check that an updated installation of bind9 does + not have the old entry of 199.7.91.13 for D-ROOT-SERVERS.NET in + /etc/bind/db.root, does have the new entry of 128.8.10.90 for it, and + that dig www.ubuntu.com a @localhost still works. + + [Regression Potential] + + We are changing the root hints file so we should check that named still + bootstraps, which I've included in the test case. + + [Original Description] + Currently we have: /etc/bind/db.root:D.ROOT-SERVERS.NET. 360 A 128.8.10.90 The new IPv4 address for this authority is 199.7.91.13 The current IPv6 address for this authority is 2001:500:2d::d and it will continue to remain unchanged. [Bug 1090593] Re: D.ROOT-SERVERS.NET changing January 3rd 2013
I wasn't happy to ask for sponsorship for SRUs directly from LaMont's changes, since they included some autotools noise and updated the entire db.root file instead of just changing the IP of D.ROOT-SERVERS.NET. For example, they added new IPv6 entries in older releases that weren't there before. So I've created a set of minimal debdiffs from scratch which change the IP of D.ROOT-SERVERS.NET in db.root only. [Bug 1081489] Re: autofs package is missing the lookup_sss.so module(!); negating autofs-enabled sssd functionality (automount fails)
Ah, we have a catch. I apologise for not noticing this before. I've verified that /usr/lib/x86_64-linux- gnu/sssd/modules/libsss_autofs.so is provided by sssd. So your patch would require a new build dependency on sssd. However, sssd is in universe, and autofs is in main, so we can't depend on it as this is not permitted by policy (http://people.canonical.com/~cjwatson/ubuntu- policy/policy.html/ch-archive.html#s-main). The only solutions I'm aware of are to promote sssd to main or to demote autofs to universe. The former is dependent on Canonical's agreement to support it in main, and I'm not sure how the requirements weigh up in this case (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuMainInclusionRequirements). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to autofs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1081489 Title: autofs package is missing the lookup_sss.so module(!); negating autofs-enabled sssd functionality (automount fails) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1081489/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1118705] Re: openvpn connection stalls
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I appreciate the problem you are facing, and that the latest version fixed the issue. Unfortunately, there isn't enough information here to be able to figure out if there is a valid bug in 2.2.1-8ubuntu1, if this is a local network configuration issue that 2.3.0 can work around, or something else. We expect to update the development version of Ubuntu to 2.3.0 once Debian has updated. Since we cannot update the version of openvpn in 12.04 to 2.3.0 due to SRU policy (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates), the only option to fix this problem in 12.04 is to identify the actual cause of the bug, if there is one. But this needs accurate steps to reproduce, or a pointer to information available on the issue elsewhere. So I am marking this bug as Incomplete. Thanks Thomas. It looks like this exists in the Ubuntu delta only, introduced in the fix for bug 246203. If we used the same lock file, I think we'd get a deadlock again. [Bug 1131463] Re: php ldap 5.3 in ubuntu 12.04 LTS does not support pagination
Thank you for reporting this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, with few exceptions, we don't modify stable releases with new features, including the LTS, since this position is exactly why people use the LTS release. Ubuntu LTS 12.04.1 is still shipped with php 5.3 for back compatibility reasons. More for LTS reasons! PHP 5.4 is available in 12.10 onwards. Please see the policy at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates Users who want newer features should use a newer release, request and use backports (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports) or use their own PPAs. Marking this bug as Invalid, since fulfilling this request would be a direct violation of SRU policy. But I do encourage the author of the backport to go ahead and publish a PPA with this feature added; this kind of need is exactly the sort of purpose which the PPAs are designed to fulfill. ** Changed in: php5 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to php5 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1131463 Title: php ldap 5.3 in ubuntu 12.04 LTS does not support pagination To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/+bug/1131463/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
