Check if switching to a VC (Ctrl-Alt-F1) and back (Alt-F7) fixes the
thing.

@claytondillard, please calm down.
You should be aware that the times in which you choose Linux for stability or
robustness are long gone (if ever they existed). Now you choose it for freedom,
for helping, for fixing things community-wise, or otherwise you are misguided.
Windows 10 never hung
Hmm. Using Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 here, intel graphics, no bug. On another
laptop, with Xubuntu, it happens.

Public bug reported:
When I modify a file in a Dropbox folder, the emblem changes to
"updating", but it will not go back to "synced" until I hit F5 to
refresh.
At the same time, I have this in the syslogs:
Jul 14 11:35:43 pern gnome-session[2181]: ** (nautilus:2333): CRITICAL **:
I can confirm that this bug is still here in 16.04. Under the user point
of view, is as screen sharing is simply not working ( regression from
14.04).

Just to add a note: it happened to me also, because I have /usr/local as
a symlink to /home/local (in a different partition) and evince (or
apparmor) correctly complained.
So all fonts from Microsoft, which are installed in /usr/local/font,
came out blank.
Setting aa-complain solved momentarily

after doing the #5 thing, with the error:

I need to reboot the system, unpair and pair again the device, and then
