[Bug 2081815] Re: nautilus crashes with mouse- or pad action

2024-09-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 2081058] Re: Cannot open gnome-control-center (settings)

2024-09-18 Thread Sebastien Bacher

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/glib/-/commit/da4b3d48
- The package architecture-properties will generally be useful for a large part
of our user base

- There is no other/better way to solve this that is already in main or
should go universe->main instead of this.
- The binary package native-architecture needs to be in main as a depends of
libglib2.0-dev

- The package architecture-properties is required in Ubuntu main for
next cycle for us to be able to keep the glib2.0 package in sync with
Debian.

[Security]
- No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past

- no `suid` or `sgid` binaries
- no executables in `/sbin` and `/usr/sbin`
- Package does not install services, timers or recurring jobs
- Packages does not open privileged ports (ports < 1024).
- Package does not expose any external endpoints
- Packages does not contain extensions to security-sensitive software

[Quality assurance - function/usage]
- The package works well right after install

[Quality assurance - maintenance]
- The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu/Upstream and does
not have too many, long-term & critical, open bugs
  - Ubuntu
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/architecture-properties/+bug
  - Debian
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=architecture-properties
  - Upstream is Debian
- The package does not deal with exotic hardware we cannot support

[Quality assurance - testing]
- The package does not run a test at build time because it's just Debian
packaging tweaks and a small wrapper and there is no real point doing build
testing.

- The package runs an autopkgtest, and is currently passing on
  amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el riscv64 s390x, link to test logs
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/a/architecture-properties

- The package does have not failing autopkgtests on the supported
architecture right now (it's failing on i386 which isn't a target for
the wrapper)

[Quality assurance - packaging]
- debian/watch is not present because it is a native package

- debian/control defines a correct Maintainer

- This package has minor lintian warnings
# lintian --pedantic architecture-properties_0.2.2_amd64.changes
running with root privileges is not recommended!
W: architecture-properties source: debhelper-but-no-misc-depends
architecture-properties
W: architecture-properties source: debhelper-but-no-misc-depends

Which we will report to Debian
- Please link to a recent build log of the package

- Please attach the full output you have got from
`lintian --pedantic` as an extra post to this bug.
- Lintian overrides are not present

- This package does not rely on obsolete or about to be demoted packages.
- This package has no python2 or GTK2 dependencies

- The package will not be installed by default

- Packaging and build is easy, link to debian/rules
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/architecture-
properties/-/blob/main/debian/rules

[UI standards]
- It is not end-user facing (does not need translation)

[Dependencies]
- No further depends or recommends dependencies that are not yet in main

[Standards compliance]
- This package correctly follows FHS and Debian Policy

[Maintenance/Owner]
- The owning team will be desktop-packages (at least for now since it's pulled
as a depends of glib2.0, but might make sense to be owned by foundation as it's
a cross arch helper) and I have their acknowledgement for that commitment
- The future owning team is already subscribed to the package

- This does not use static builds
- This does not use vendored code
- This package is not rust based

- The package has been built within the last 3 months in the archive

Title:
  [MIR] architecture-properti

[Bug 2080062] Re: [MIR] libspelling

2024-09-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
** Changed in: libspelling (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => New

** Description changed:

- This is a draft MIR.
+ [Availability]
+ The package libspelling is already in Ubuntu universe.
+ The package libspelling build for the architectures it is designed to work on.
+ It currently builds and works for architectures: amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el
riscv64 s390x
+ Link to package https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libspelling

- libspelling is derived from code that was formerly in gnome-builder and
- gnome-text-editor. Late in the GNOME 47 release cycle, gnome-text-editor
- switched to the external libspelling. It was too late to process the
- libspelling MIR for Ubuntu 24.10, so we vendored libspelling for that
- release only. The Ubuntu Desktop team will submit a MIR for libspelling
- early for Ubuntu 25.04.
+ [Rationale]
+ - The package libspelling is required as a new dependency of
gnome-text-editor.
+ - The package libspelling will generally be useful for a large part of our
user base
+ - There is no other/better way to solve this that is already in main or
+ should go universe->main instead of this. (we have other spelling libraries
but not gtk4 ones)
+ - The binary package libspelling-1-2 needs to be in main since
gnome-text-editor links to it.
+
+ - The package libspelling is required in Ubuntu main when possible. It
+ used to be bundled with gnome-text-editor and was split out but we
+ restored the copy for this cycle (unless we manage to get the MIR
+ reviewed but we aren't blocked on it)
+
+ [Security]
+ - No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past
+
+ - no `suid` or `sgid` binaries
+ - no executables in `/sbin` and `/usr/sbin`
+ - Package does not install services, timers or recurring jobs
+ - Packages does not open privileged ports (ports < 1024).
+ - Package does not expose any external endpoints
+ - Packages does not contain extensions to security-sensitive software
+
+ [Quality assurance - function/usage]
+ - The package works well right after install
+
+ [Quality assurance - maintenance]
+ - The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu/Upstream has currently no
open bugs downstream nor upstream
+ - Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libspelling/+bug
+ - Debian https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=libspelling
+ - Upstream's bug tracker, https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libspelling/
+ - The package has important open bugs, listing them: TBD
+ - The package does not deal with exotic hardware we cannot support
+
+ [Quality assurance - testing]
+ - The package runs a test suite on build time, if it fails
+ it makes the build fail,
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/748385661/buildlog_ubuntu-oracular-amd64.libspelling_0.4.0-1_BUILDING.txt.gz

[Bug 2079039] Re: signature stored on a nfs share not working with the snap

2024-09-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report.

If you edit the signature path directory, could you check if `journalctl
-f` lists apparmor denial errors when trying to write an email?

I would guess that the path is blocked by the snap sandboxing. If you
use the fileselector then it goes through xdg portal which gives the
other location but mention, but indeed that's a local path generated by
the portal and not going to work on another machine (and probably not on
the same after restarting either...)

2024-09-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Sorry but no, please follow the instructions. The .crash is can include
private information and isn't easy to process manually, it should be
submitted through apport and not attached to launchpad

[Bug 2078965] Re: nautilus crash while changing tabs

2024-09-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher

[Bug 2066262] Re: [MIR] libdex

2024-09-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
** Description changed:

  [Availability]
The package libdex is already in Ubuntu universe.
The package libdex build for the architectures it is designed to work on.
It currently builds and works for all Ubuntu architectures.
  Link to package https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdex

  [Rationale]
  - The package libdex is required in Ubuntu main because it is a runtime
dependency of sysprof (MIR LP: #2066269)
  - There is no other/better way to solve this that is already in main or
should go universe->main instead of this.
  - The package libdex is required in Ubuntu main no later than August 15 due
to a Ubuntu Desktop goal of including sysprof in the default 24.10 install

  [Security]
  - No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past
+ Note that CVE-2016-3758 is about a vulnerability in Android's libdex which
is a completely different project with no shared history or functionality.
GNOME libdex was not created until 2022.
  + https://ubuntu.com/security/cves?package=libdex

  - no `suid` or `sgid` binaries
  - no executables in `/sbin` and `/usr/sbin`
  - Package does not install services, timers or recurring jobs
  - Package does not open privileged ports (ports < 1024).
  - Package does not expose any external endpoints
  - Package does not contain extensions to security-sensitive software
(filters, scanners, plugins, UI skins, ...)
  - TODO: I noticed that libdex uses liburing which uses the Linux kernel
io_uring interface. Wikipedia points out that io_uring is a frequent source of
bugs in the Linux kernel. I don't know if this matters for apps using liburing,
but I think the Security Team should have a look. libdex does have a build-time
option to disable liburing in cases where it is unavailable (for instance it's
disabled on i386 since Ubuntu currently doesn't build liburing on i386).

  [Quality assurance - function/usage]
  - The package works well right after install

  [Quality assurance - maintenance]
  - The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu/Upstream and does not have
too many, long-term & critical, open bugs
  - Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdex/
  - Debian https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=libdex
  - Upstream https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libdex/-/issues
  - The package does not deal with exotic hardware we cannot support

  [Quality assurance - testing]
  - The package runs a test suite on build time, if it fails it makes the build
fail, link to build log
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdex/0.6.1-1

  - The package does not run an autopkgtest. See next lines.

  - This package is minimal and will be tested in a more wide reaching solution.
+ libdex is only used by sysprof and gnome-builder. In addition to the
existing build tests for libdex, we will also do manual testing for Sysprof and
GNOME Builder.

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/Sysprof
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/GnomeBuilder

  [Quality assurance - packaging]
  - debian/watch is present and works
  - debian/control defines a correct Maintainer field
  - This package does not yield massive lintian Warnings, Errors
  - Please link to a recent build log of the package
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdex/0.6.1-1
  - Please attach the full output you have got from `lintian --pedantic` as an
extra post to this bug.
  - Lintian overrides are not present

  - This package does not rely on obsolete or about to be demoted packages.
  - This package has no python2 or GTK2 dependencies

  - The package will be installed by default, but does not ask debconf questions
  - Packaging and build is easy, link to debian/rules
https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/libdex/-/blob/debian/latest/debian/rules

  [UI standards]
  - Application is not end-user facing (does not need translation)

  [Dependencies]
  - No further depends or recommends dependencies that are not yet in main

  [Standards compliance]
  - This package correctly follows FHS and Debian Policy

  [Maintenance/Owner]
  - The owning team will be Ubuntu Desktop (~desktop-packages) and I have their
acknowledgement for that commitment
- - The future owning team is not yet subscribed, but will subscribe to the
package before promotion
+ - The owning team is subscribed to the package

  - This does not use static builds
  - This does not use vendored code
  - This package is not rust based

  - The package has been built in the archive more recently than the last
  test rebuild

  [Background information]
  - The Package description explains the package well
  - Upstream Name is libdex
  - Link to upstream project https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libdex

[Bug 2064576] Re: Jammy to Noble upgrade lost private use area Ubuntu symbol

2024-09-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Hey Christian. Sorry for the lack of reply there, we don't really have
anyone in Ubuntu working on fonts nowadays.

The font refresh was lead by Canonical Design and I don't think they are
watching launchpad but they have https://github.com/canonical/Ubuntu-
Sans-fonts/issues , we should probably report there (though my
understanding was that the font update was contracting work so I don't
know if that's still active or if they moved to some other projects)

In any case I agree that it was a small nicety and would be nice to have
it back in the new fonts
