I have experienced the same problem; gksu was taking 20 seconds to complete. Two updates - first I have tested older versions fo the kenel from disk (rather than from CD as above) and the problem is present in 2.6.33 and 2.6.38. Second, the problem only manifests itself when booting from my hard drives (an LVM2 striped array), and not when I boot from the SSD I installed yesterday. So... I'm not really sure what's happening. I've booted from 9.04 (2.6.28-11) on CD and the problem -- usb_submit_urb(ctrl) failed -- is there It's there too on 10.04 (2.6.32-21) and 12.04 (3.2.0-23) booted from CD. [Bug 1030615] [NEW] Braser hangs at end of burn
Public bug reported: After burning the disk (CD or DVD), Brasero tried to eject the disk - and fails with this message: Please eject the disc from HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22LP21 manually. The disc could not be ejected though it needs to be removed for the current operation to continue. Ejecting the disk does not cancel the message. After ejecting the disk and clicking cancel this message appears: Image successfully burned to DVD (or CD) (progress bar) Success Clicking close appears to close the application. However it still appears as a running process, which prevents it being launched again (either with right click against a file or from Main menu - Sound and Video - Brasero Disk Burner until the running instance has been ended or killed. Karan Batra's workaround didn't work for me (VMWare Player 4.0.4 and new install of Ubuntu 12.04 64Bit). I don't think this is a dmraid issue (since I've removed dmraid and the bug persists).
