[Bug 269910] Re: Netmask automatically changes to 24

2019-06-17 Thread Simon Rodan
A workaround seems to be to add two sets of addresses and then delete
the top one (which will have the erroneously saved mas address).

[Bug 1818427] [NEW] Problem changing video resolution

2019-03-03 Thread Simon Rodan
Public bug reported:

Actions:
Open Cheese
>From preferences change video resolution
Select video as recording mode (either using the button or from the menu)

Expected behavior:
Video resolution changes and new aspect ratio image is shown in Cheese monitor.

Observed behavior:
Cheese monitor is black with message "There was an error playing the video from
the webcam"
The webcam is not activated
All modes in menu are greyed.
Modes cannot be selected until cheese is closed

Workaround #1
Set both photo and video modes to the desired video resolution - both video and
photo resolution must be the same.
Quit Cheese
Reopen Cheese
New video resolution is selected

Workaround #2
Select video mode
Make a video recording
Now the video resolution can be changed independently of the photo resolution
NOTE that a recording must be made at the selected resolution every time before
it can be changed.

A process of elimination has narrowed down the problem to a webcam - the
IPEVO Point 2 View USB Document Camera - which is the cause for of this
problem. (The problem seems unrelated to lvm2)

[Bug 1029546] Re: Long delay in boot sequence

2012-07-31 Thread Simon Rodan
Two updates - first I have tested older versions fo the kenel from disk (rather
than from CD as above) and the problem is present in 2.6.33 and 2.6.38. Second,
the problem only manifests itself when booting from my hard drives (an LVM2
striped array), and not when I boot from the SSD I installed yesterday.
In the next four posts I am uploading the demesg files:

[Bug 1029546] Re: Long delay in boot sequence

2012-07-31 Thread Simon Rodan
So... I'm not really sure what's happening.

I've booted from 9.04 (2.6.28-11) on CD and the problem --
usb_submit_urb(ctrl) failed -- is there
It's there too on 10.04 (2.6.32-21) and 12.04 (3.2.0-23) booted from CD. The
rason I think I didn't notivce is that other processes were takign longer to
complete (/O waits) and so the gap before usb_submit_urb failed is shorter, but
the command fails in all cases, irrespective of whether the kernel is on a hard
disk, a solid state disk or a CD

Attached as a file with all the tests I've done

dmesg (dvd) 2.6.28-11-generic_x86_64
dmesg (dvd) 2.6.32-21-generic_x86_64
dmesg (dvd) 3.2.0-23-generic_x86_64
dmesg (ros) 2.6.33-02063320-generic_x86_64.
dmesg (ros) 2.6.38-15-generic_x86_64
dmesg (ros) 3.2.0-27-generic_x86_64
dmesg (ssd) 3.2.0-27-generic_x86_64

Sorry I haven't been much help...

[Bug 1030615] [NEW] Braser hangs at end of burn

2012-07-29 Thread Simon Rodan
Public bug reported:

After burning the disk (CD or DVD), Brasero tried to eject the disk -
and fails with this message:

Please eject the disc from HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22LP21 manually.
The disc could not be ejected though it needs to be removed for the current
operation to continue.

Ejecting the disk does not cancel the message.

After ejecting the disk and clicking cancel this message appears:

Image successfully burned to DVD (or CD)
(progress bar)
Success

Clicking close appears to close the application. However it still
appears as a running process, which prevents it being launched again
(either with right click against a file or from Main menu - Sound and
Video - Brasero Disk Burner until the running instance has been ended or
killed.

[Bug 969154] Re: Unable to set 1920x1080 resolution in Ubuntu 12.04 Beta2 as a VMWare Workstation 8 guest

2012-07-29 Thread Simon Rodan
Karan Batra's workaround didn't work for me (VMWare Player 4.0.4 and
new install of Ubuntu 12.04 64Bit). What did was using the Xconf
settings editor (Aplication Menu-Settings-Settings editor), setting
the resolution by hand and then using Settings Display (the newly
created resolution appears at the top of the list) to set the
resolution.

This is the same bug as 800313
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/800313) but
apport-collect wasn't alloing me to add the requested missing log files
(even after changing its staus back to New.

[Bug 581566] Re: udevd inotify_add_watch no such directory error for physical volumes

2010-11-09 Thread Simon Rodan
I don't think this is a dmraid issue (since I've removed dmraid and the
bug persists). However, since my LVM partitions are generating these
errors I wonder if it could be that certain partition formats (LVM and
dmraid) are unreadable by inotify, hence the error?

Many thanks for tracking this down.

The only partitions that generated errors on my system were the LVM
managed extended partitions.
