[Bug 1726930] Re: System fails to start (boot) on battery due to read-only root file-system
The "auto" fix works for me too. Having just upgraded an old Dell Vostro v131 to 17.10, it no longer booted from battery but required the mains adaptor to be used. The change noted in #15 worked at it now boots correctly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1726930 Title: System fails to start (boot) on battery due to read-only root file- system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/laptop-mode-tools/+bug/1726930/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 1605376] Re: package shim-signed 1.17~15.10.1+0.8-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 128
I think your suggestion is correct. I used dpkg-reconfigure to re-run shim-signed and a window popped up asking me to disable secure boot. This didn't appear in the original run. I'm using Ubuntu Gnome 15.10 (updated to 16.04 today), and used the Software Updater app to apply updates. This was the original Ubuntu updater, rather than the new one that now ships with 16.04. I guess this report can now be closed. Thanks for your help. [Bug 1259701] [NEW] 14.04 installer does not detect Windows 8.1
Public bug reported: Just tried using 14.04 daily build (10th Dec) on HP Pavilion Touchsmart 11. (Aside note: This is the first build since 12.04 that actually runs on this PC - previous releases lock up with a black screen or terminal login prompt that doesn't run anything). I was hoping to install 14.04 alongside Windows - I'll scrub Windows when the full LTS is released, but until then I need to keep it. [Bug 481432] Re: [Karmic] wireless connection keeps dropping - WPA TKIP
Thanks for some really useful info, ichimonji10. I haven't been able to get such empirical measurements as you, but your results do agree with the symptoms I get here. When booted into Vista, wifi availability throughout my house is good - I never experience any dropouts. With Ubuntu 9.10, the connection drops frequently. It's not a regular as clockwork thing as sometimes it will stay connected for an hour or so, then other times I can't stay online for more than a few minutes. Sometimes it reconnects quickly, but mostly I struggle to get it to reconnect and have to give up and return to Vista. Is the bit of software Vistumbler freely available? I could run it at home to give some comparative results to your. -- [Karmic] wireless connection keeps dropping - WPA TKIP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481432 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 481432] Re: [Karmic] wireless connection keeps dropping - WPA TKIP
I've installed Vistumbler, and under Vista, sitting in my usual armchair, I get a consistent -47db. Using wavemon in Ubuntu, in the same place, it sits mostly at -60db and, roughly every 2 seconds drops dramatically to -80db for a brief moment. I'm wondering if this occasional drop is sufficiently low for the connection to be lost. Do you see the same effect in your environment? Also, interestingly, I can see around 8 wifi networks available in my area within Vista, but generally only three or four in the Network Manager list in Ubuntu. Very often, mine is the only one listed while another family member (using Windows 7) can see many more. I may be wrong, but I'm not aware of a way in which the receptive strength of a wifi interface can be altered by software. The implication is that Ubuntu is somehow under-estimating the strength of signals, and making incorrect decisions on connectivity based on this evaluation. Let's hope The Powers That Be have taken note of your signal strength findings! -- [Karmic] wireless connection keeps dropping - WPA TKIP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481432 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 505224] [NEW] Wifi dropouts and inability to reconnect to router
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client My Dell laptop XPS M1210 will randomly drop off the wireless network (approximately every hour) and refuse to reconnect even though the SSID is still listed in the Network Manager list. After a period of time, it will decide to reconnect and continue doing this. It will do this even if I am located next to the router. I've attached messages from syslog showing a successful connection and also messages around the times when it does not connect even though the SSID is listed. The same laptop also runs Windows Vista (for work) and does not drop out at all. Rebooting sometimes enables the reconnection, and sometimes disabling and reenabling wirelesss networking will work. Normally, the NM icon shows a green lower ball, then the upper ball turns green, then connection message appears. When NM is refusing to connect, only the lower ball turns green and the upper ball never turns green. Often the wireless network key is requested, but entering it makes no difference - connection still fails. If I transfer files from my laptop to my Ubuntu 9.10 Dell desktop server, the copy will stop after only 1-2 Mb and the laptop will drop off the wireless network as above. I can only copy files by using a USB flash key.
