[Bug 1906243] [NEW] Audio comes out through system speakers when headset autoconnects

2020-11-30 Thread Sujit Kumar
Public bug reported:

When I turn on my Bluetooth headset, Ubuntu 20.04 connects to it
automatically (Or at least it appears to be connected to it). It says
connected and the switch is in the ON position in Bluetooth settings,
however the audio still comes out of the speakers, the icon next to the
volume bar in the top-right menu shows the speaker icon instead of the
headphone icon. I have to disconnect the headset and re-connect it from
Bluetooth settings for the audio to go to the headset.

It doesn't work only when it connects automatically. Always works when I
connect it manually.

This exact same bug has been marked as a duplicate here:

one @nivg mentioned). This was marked as a duplicate to the bug in this
page, but I don't think these bugs are the same.

[Bug 1885344] Re: nvidia-340 340.108-0ubuntu2: nvidia-340 kernel module failed to build (oem 5.6 kernel)

2021-01-10 Thread Sujit Kumar
After upgrading all packages my laptop gave a black screen on boot.
After more digging, I figured out it was because of the nvidia drivers.
As of now, I'm using the X.Org Nouveau open-source driver. I removed all
Nvidia drivers using (from recovery mode) and this seemed to work.

```ssh
sudo apt purge ^nvidia-
```

However, I'd like to use the Nvidia driver again ASAP.

On trying to run (the recommended driver):

```ssh
sudo apt get nvidia-340
```

I got this:

[Bug 1910709] Re: DKMS linux-headers-5.8.0-34-generic update brokes nvidia-340

2021-01-14 Thread Sujit Kumar
Simon's deb package worked for me! I'm planning to reinstall Ubuntu with
a fresh installation as I'm seeing few other issues pop up since it
upgraded to the 5.8 kernel like it tells me My laptop doesn't have
bluetooth and that I should insert a dongle randomly, but then fixes
itself. I'm waiting fro Ubuntu 20.04.2 this Feb 4th to install Ubuntu.
It upgraded my kernel when I ran `sudo apt upgrade`. For future
reference, can I know how to only get 5.4 related updates but to stay at
kernel 5.4? Also, will Ubuntu 20.04.2 ship with 5.4 or some newer
version?

WiFi not working could be because of some signing issue after upgrading,
try disabling Secure Boot and check? I faced this issue before.

Daniel, I have only faced that bug once, so far it hasn't happened
again, so I have no idea how to reproduce it. Should I open a new bug
anyway? Under mutter and the NVIDIA drivers?

Daniel, I'm not sure if this bug is related but, the system also hangs
for a few seconds whenever the Wi-Fi gets disconnected.

[Bug 1866194] Re: External audio device shows up in the sound output options but the sound keeps being emitted from the internal laptop speaker, or none at all.

2020-09-24 Thread Sujit Kumar
Daniel, I deleted the pulse folder (~/.config/pulse) like you said and
restarted my laptop, but the bug is still present. When I turn on
headset, it says "Connected" and my laptop says it's connected in
Bluetooth settings, but the audio still comes out of the laptop
speakers, I have to disconnect and reconnect the headset from settings
to get the audio to go to it.

[Bug 1866194] Re: External audio device shows up in the sound output options but the sound keeps being emitted from the internal laptop speaker, or none at all.

2020-09-27 Thread Sujit Kumar
I enabled focal-proposed updates and upgraded 119 packages and installed
5 new ones. So far I can't see any major bugs that breaks my system so
that's good, however the pulseaudio bug isn't fixed for me.

Unpacking pulseaudio (1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.7) over
(1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.6)

This was a line while upgrading in terminal, so pulseaudio is in
1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.7

When I turn on headset, it says "Connected" and my laptop says it's
connected in Bluetooth settings, but the audio still comes out of the
laptop speakers, I have to disconnect and reconnect the headset from
settings to get the audio to go to it. This was the bug I faced before
as well.

[Bug 1892440] Re: Shell text with wrong size in mutter 3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 (mostly on Nvidia)

2020-10-04 Thread Sujit Kumar
I just reinstalled Ubuntu 20.04.1 on my laptop and changed the graphics
driver to "NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-450
(proprietary, tested)" and it seems to have fixed this small text issue
(and also the corrupted background bug). Can someone tell me the
difference between this metapackage and the "NVIDIA binary driver -
version 340.108 from nvidia-340 (proprietary)"?

[Bug 1869053] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 daily (25.03.2020) installer crashes

2020-10-04 Thread Sujit Kumar
I faced this issue too, weirdly I installed 20.04.1 before and didn't
face this issue. However after I got the crash message, I was still able
to boot into the system. I noticed everything seemed to be working
alright except the third party softwares hadn't been installed, I'm
guessing that's where it crashes. I installed the ubuntu-restricted-
extras package from terminal. (I also faced an issue of it asking me to
enter the installation media while truing to install this package, I had
to fix that with `sudo sed -i '/cdrom/d' /etc/apt/sources.list` and then
install the package).

2021-01-15 Thread Sujit Kumar
I installed the focal-proposed updates yesterday, just checked and I can
confirm the background corruption issue is still there, tho it's not as
much as before. Before it used to change to a complete grey static, but
now the wallpaper is still visible to an extent. I'll attach a
screenshot.

Whenever I change my display's brightness using keyboard shortcuts (For

immediately, but everything (except the mouse) hangs while it is being
changed and sometimes for quite some time after. There is no problem
doing it through the system. Changing volume using keyboard shortcuts

** Description changed:

I've noticed sometimes when the menu is opened, there is a slight glitch
- in the animation. I've noticed two different yet very similar glitches
- in this menu. One of them occurs when my PC is first booted and the menu
- is opened (Refer attachment):
+ in the animation: (Refer attachment):

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/494821177/Screencast%20from%2024-08-20%2009%2014%2030%20PM%20IST%20

+ and

There is also a bug where when a folder is open and closed, the number
of page indications increase for no reason, more than the required
  number (Refer attachment):

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/494901134/Screencast%20from%2025-08-20%2012%2018%2043%20PM%20IST.mp4

loaded, the two pages collide (Refer attachment):

- Whenever I change my display's brightness using keyboard shortcuts (For

- changed and sometimes for quite some time after. There is no problem
- doing it through the system. Changing volume using keyboard shortcuts

[Bug 1835660] Re: initramfs unpacking failed

2020-08-31 Thread Sujit Kumar
Ubuntu put it at lz4 by default, so my gut tells me that'll give the
fastest boot time. I didn't change lz4 to anything, just ran this
command to get rid of the error:

sudo update-initramfs -c -k $(uname -r)

I believe you have to run this command everytime certain packages are
updated.
