Same problem on my amd64 laptop 8.04 latest. Last solution fixed it. Looks like the latest xserver conf does not contain a serverlayout, which makes adding a new input device impossible without re-constructing it. Can i suggest that these get fixed/pushed upstream: 1. the xorg build has touchpad
