[Bug 1865962] Re: Dell XPS 13 9300 Intel 1650S wifi [34f0:1651] fails to load firmware

2020-04-12 Thread Tim Tierney
Just diagnosed my fathers brand new System 76 laptop. Same issue. Just
got GRUB to boot 5.3.0-28 by default to get him up and running again.

Sometimes it's hard to be a Linux fan. Telling him "oh yeah, just wait
until 20.04" is unacceptable quality for Ubuntu.

[Bug 1826460] Re: Every snap gives "create user data directory" after upgrade to 19.04

2019-05-21 Thread Tim Tierney
Apologies, Maciej for not getting you the Output you requested.
However, I think your suspicion is correct. It was definitely 5.0.9
from the kernel ppa. I recently built 5.1.3 and am not seeing the issue
anymore.

I have the same issue since installing a fresh copy of Pop OS 19.04.
Can confirm it's every snap command I run. VLC, LXD, etc.

[Bug 1732057] Re: WiFi Microcode SW Error Detected

2017-11-14 Thread Tim Tierney
Did a little more digging in my old logs. I think I found kernel logs
from my zesty install. iwlwifi firmware jumped from v22.391740.0 up to
v31.532993.0 (probably during upgrade). Shortly after that is when I
experienced the first 'Microcode SW error detected'.

Would it be worth me reverting back to v22 and trying that? I'm
definitely a n00b when it comes to kernel/firmware stuff. Not sure how
it all works.

[Bug 1732057] Re: WiFi Microcode SW Error Detected

2017-11-14 Thread Tim Tierney
Hey Joseph. Thanks for your time and quick reply. I have no problem
trying 4.14. However, this is a little outside of a standard install.
I'm running '/' on top of ZFS. I'm pretty sure ZFS isn't out yet for
4.14. So if I install that version without ZFS included, my system
won't boot.

One good thing is I kept my 17.04 '/' dataset. So I've been looking for
config differences and Google-ing trying to diagnose it myself.

I did notice a bug with similar symptoms (Bug #1681513) stating there is
a new privacy feature added to NetworkManager. Something about MAC
Address Randomization breaking some WiFi adapters. Comparing my old and
new NetworkManager config. There's a new line that wasn't there before.
Could this new feature be causing it? Just stabbing in the dark here.

[Bug 646377] [NEW] Brasero crashes burning DVD video

2010-09-23 Thread Tim Tierney
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Ubuntu 10.04

brasero:
  Installed: 2.30.2-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.30.2-0ubuntu1
  Version table:

 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages

After downloading videos I decided to free some disc space by making a
DVD video. I created a new video project in Brasero and added a video
in MPG format. And I expected to click burn and it would make a DVD
player compliant disc.

However, An error box showed an internal error.

[Bug 615033] Re: Can't choose where to install grub in ubiquity

Thanks Erick that's what we were looking for. One question though.
What if you don't want to install the boot loader. For example if your
running multiple Linux distros and you don't what the current boot
loader to be over written?

Definitely going to subscribe to this. I was disappointed to find that
I couldn't omit the installation of grub. I like to run multiple Linux

[Bug 517887] [NEW] Grub Text Color w/ Splash Image

2010-02-05 Thread Tim Tierney
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

On Ubuntu Karmic, I recently tried configuring Grub2 with splash images.
Following the directions on the community documentation, I applied the
image successfully. However, the text colors where black with
highlighted OS being magenta.

I checked the /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme file and found the color
settings as follows:

set menu_color_normal=white/black
set menu_color_highlight=black/white

Running grub without splash image renders text colors correctly.

Actually I just fixed this bug. Turns out in the Sound Preferences

have been Analog Stereo Duplex.

So I guess I'll mark this as invalid.

[Bug 473543] Re: Group Plugin and Animations

2009-12-07 Thread Tim Tierney
I've discovered the exact cause for the animation failure.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Activate Animations plugin.
2. Activate Group And Tab Windows plugin.
3. Tab two windows together.
4. Hover over the title bar of grouped windows and drag a Window away causing
them to un-tab.
5. Animations stop working.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: compiz

  Ubuntu 9.10

This is just a visual thing, not a big deal. But I noticed that if I
enable Tab Groups Window plugin in Compiz, Some animations fail. For
- example fading and dodging. Log off and log on are required to fix the
- animations.
+ example fading and dodging. Complete restart of Compiz is required to
+ repair.

a microphone works. However, I uploaded the data requested. Thanks for
