Video out has been one of the most frustrating issues for me in Linux.
A nice guy for adjusting monitor properties such as resolution, color
depth, and options such as TV out. Ubuntu is fairly easy to use, but I
would love to see someone's mother setup TV out in Linux.

Correct me if I'm wrong here. The issue is that some of the icons are
scalable, but others are not ( update manager and applets for instance).

The problem seems to have fixed itself recently. I'm 99.99% positive
it's a bug in detection of sound drivers. The Gnome startup sound would
skip for about 10 minutes during boot and that would slow the computer
to a crawl. If I compiled a kernel without sound it was fine.
