[Bug 1439840] [NEW] luckybackup refuses to safe into empty directory

2015-04-02 Thread Vej
Public bug reported:

If you create a task, with certain settings and choose to save into an
empty directory. Luckybackup skips the task claiming the directory is
not mounted. If you create a file inside the directory (touch blah.txt
is fine) everything works as expected.

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS and luckybackup 0.4.7-3 (amd64).

The settings can be seen in the attachment.

If you speak german you might want to have a look at
http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/sicherung-mit-luckybackup-in-manche-
ordner-nic (unofficial German Ubuntuforum ) which introduced the bug and
its solution to me.

[Bug 1377873] Re: deja-dup fails to restore missing files, that contain "german umlaut" (ä,ö,ü,Ä,Ö,Ü).

2015-11-08 Thread Vej
Hello.

I want to bring to your knowledge, that we (in the german-commmunity)
still see a lot of people having this problem.

If you want some reference, you can find a new theme here:
https://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/datensicherung-fehlgeschlagen-was-tun
(in german).

With this bug, I can't recommend usage of Déjà-Dup for anyone speaking
german. This is very bad, because this problem is the preinstalled
software in Ubuntu and used to be the most user-friendly software in the
past.

Please set the priority and fix it or tell me, what to do against it.

Best Regards

[Bug 1377873] Re: deja-dup fails to restore missing files, that contain "german umlaut" (ä,ö,ü,Ä,Ö,Ü).

2016-03-19 Thread Vej
Hello everyone!

I had a look at the diff from the fix of bug #1356548 and they only
fixed the occurring of the Traceback in case the file was not found.

See this cite from comment #6 of this bug:

> You were experiencing the crash when duplicity was trying to say that the
> file you asked for didn't exist in the backup.
> When I tried restoring utf8 filenames that did exist in the backup, it worked

So this is definitely not an duplicate of bug #1356548.

[Bug 1356548] Re: Duplicity restore fails with UTF-8 chars in --file-to-restore

2016-03-18 Thread Vej
I need to add something to my last comment:

The message I cited above indicates, that the stacktrace shown by Adrein
Robin – when he opened this bug – is avoided by the fix.

This does not explain why this piece of code gets executed.

So if you see this bug only as the problem that occurred, after the line
starting with "log.FatalError(" has been entered. It is fixed.

In this case I will remove all the duplicates, because they want their
files to bee _restored_.

A fixed error-message is not very helpful if you lost your files to this
bug ;).

Thank you for your attention

[Bug 1377873] Re: deja-dup fails to restore missing files, that contain "german umlaut" (ä,ö,ü,Ä,Ö,Ü).

2016-04-05 Thread Vej
I did some further tests with actual versions of deja-dup and found out,
that the following restores does not work (I'm trying to restore a file
named `dortö`, that is located in `Schreibtisch/tröstfolder`
(''Schreibtisch'' means ''Desktop'', and ''tröstfolder'' is just some
folder with an ö inside) :

Reproduction Steps:

0. Install your Ubuntu in german.
1. Create the folder Schreibtisch/tröstfolder and the file
Schreibtisch/tröstfolder/dortö
2. Perform a fresh Backup to an empty folder (use encryption by setting a
password).
3. Delete the file.
4. Try out the following commands:

{{{LC_ALL=C deja-dup --restore ~/Schreiptich/tröstfolder/dortö}} and
{{{LC_ALL=C deja-dup --restore ~/Schreiptich/tröstfolder/dortö}}

work as expected.

{{{LC_ALL=C deja-dup --restore-missing tröstfolder/}} and
{{{deja-dup --restore-missing tröstfolder/da}}

result in empty lists of files.

I decrypted the backup using `gpg --multifile --decrypt duplicity-
full.*.*.difftar.gpg` and unpacked the files manually using `for t in
duplicity-full.20110127T131352Z.*.difftar; do tar xf $t; done` (see
[[https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/DejaDup/Help/Restore/WorstCase| "When
Everything Goes Wrong" in Gnome Wiki ]]). `dortö` was inside of the
folder `snapshot/home/test/Schreibtisch/tröstfolder`.

Versions: deja-dup `30.0-0ubuntu4` and duplicity `0.6.23-1ubuntu4.2`
OS.: Ubuntu Trusty Thar

Please Note: I installed the version `0.6.23-1ubuntu4.2` of duplicity
from proposed, to avoid being hit by bug #1356548.

[Bug 1377873] Re: deja-dup fails to restore missing files, that contain "german umlaut" (ä,ö,ü,Ä,Ö,Ü).

2016-04-09 Thread Vej
Hello everyone,

the version 34.2-0ubuntu1 performs good if you follow my scenario given
in comment #21. Thanks to Michael Terry for that.

But if you do the following, you may encounter problems:

0. Install the dailybuild from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ (I
choosed the one created at 08-Apr-2016 08:03), choose German ("Deutsch") as
your language.
1. Perform a fresh backup to a local folder (set a password for encryption).
2. Create the folder Schreibtisch/tröstfolder and the file
Schreibtisch/tröstfolder/dortö.
3. Restart the Backup (perform an incremental Backup)
4. Delete the file.
5. Restart the Backup (perform an incremental Backup)
6. Try to restore the file using LC_ALL=C deja-dup --restore-missing
tröstfolder/

Result: The list is empty.

However: If you leave out step five and try to restore the file after it
was deleted, it works very well :).

So I'm wondering now if the "restore-missing"-function is expected to
look at the last backup only. Can anyone explain this to me?

Thanking you in anticipation

[Bug 1356548] Re: Duplicity restore fails with UTF-8 chars in --file-to-restore

2016-03-19 Thread Vej
Hello!

I managed to test this now (with duplicity 0.6.23-1ubuntu4.2) and was able to
restore files via "wiederherstellen"-button from deja-dup (German for restore),
even if they or their folders contain ä, ö or è.
Unfortunately I got no result when trying to restore only one missing file (via
context menu or duplicity --file-to-restore ./da file:///home/test/Sicherung
.)! The terminal printed this message instead: "Datei im Archiv nicht gefunden,
keine Dateien wiederhergestellt." which means something like "Unable to find
file in archive, did not restored any files".

2016-04-25 Thread Vej
Hello Mr. Bigonville,

thanks for your contribution to this bug.

You wrote: "With 34.1 I've more files/directories proposed than when
using 34.2."

This seems legit to me, if the accentuated files where proposed in 34.1
by mistake (because the comparison with the Unicode characters went
wrong).

So could you please specify this? I would be interested in the following
questions:
 - Are the files, that are not proposed in 34.2 actually missing in the
folder/home/bigon ?
 - Were the missing files deleted before or after the last backup?
 - Was the last backup full or incremental?
 - Did you made a fresh clean backup with 34.2 or did you used an old one
(initially created with 34.1 or older)?

[Bug 1635877] Re: deja-dup failed restore process because of a big file which had to be restored on a nearly full hd

Hello Christian.

Regarding the original report: What else should Deja Dup do than telling
you about not sufficient space? It can not predict, which data is more
important for you!

Regarding comment no #2: You still need space in you temporary folder to
unpack the files. The fact, that this should be reported is handled by
bug report #974036 and should be discussed there.

[Bug 1662824] Re: remove deja-dup from ubuntu default install

2017-02-08 Thread Vej
I agree that Déjà Dup does need more developers and a second maintainer
to reduce the burden on Michael Terry, who has not enough time to fix
everything or even test all patches currently available.

If you would like to offer help on that feel free to start fixing bugs
and join discussion on the upstream mailinglist.

I strongly disagree with the suggestion, that Ubuntu should ship without
any backup software. This field is too important to exclude it from the
distribution. One might consider a new search for a more reliable but
still easy to use backup software instead. I have no clue if such a
software exists.

[Bug 1436583] Re: SSH program unexpectedly exited

2017-02-18 Thread Vej
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since
that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some
of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently
supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly
upload the updated logs by running only once:
apport-collect 1436583

and the following logs that are relevant for this particular issue:

 - The file /tmp/deja-dup.gsettings after running the following line (you may
want to scrub the file of any incriminating file names or details):
gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.DejaDup > /tmp/deja-dup.gsettings

 - The file /tmp/deja-dup.log after running the appropriate line below
and replicating the problem (you may want to scrub the log of any
incriminating file names or details):

DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1 deja-dup --backup | tail -n 1000 > /tmp/deja-
dup.log

[Bug 1665402] Re: Own shortcut not working

2017-02-23 Thread Vej
I can reproduce this using xenial 16.04 with the german translation.

Reproduction steps:

 * Execute "unity-control-center keyboard shortcuts" in a terminal.
 * In the left menu select "own shortcuts" (or equivalent translation).
 * Press the + to add a new shortcut. Name it "Test" and ad some valid command
like "unity-control-center"
 * Select your new entry

What happens: The edit menu opens to edit the name and command

What should happen: The design changes indicating that the shortcut is
recorded.

Please note: This works fine with the predefined shortcuts in "unity-
control-center keyboard shortcuts".

Best Regards

Vej

[Bug 1371194] Re: baobab does not display usage-bars

2017-02-24 Thread Vej
This seems to be fixed upstream and in Ubuntu 16.04, because of changes in the
layout.
See https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=739749.

This is not fixed in Ubuntu 14.04.

[Bug 947244] Re: deja-dup-monitor does not have branded icon in System Monitor

@Diogo.

I still do not see an icon for deja-dup-monitor in system monitor, nor
do I have a (linked) deja-dup-monitor.desktop in
/usr/share/applications. Do you have such a file?

I use Ubuntu 16.04 with Déjà Dup 34.2-0ubuntu1.

[Bug 1308185] Re: give a way to disclose more information about inaccessible folders

2017-02-24 Thread Vej
I dis some rearch in the upstream bug tracker and came upon "Better
warning and error messages.", which seems to fix this bug. It makes
inaccessible folders appear in red and their parent folders appear in
orange. So this bug seems to be fixed in xenial, although I never
noticed the connection between the colors and the error message.

Hello Pieter,

thanks for you reply. Unfortunately "eliminated" is not a valid signal
and "killed" and "terminated" both seem to be close translations to me.
Could you rerun wit above command (from comment #2) please?

Thanking you in anticipation

[Bug 1648215] Re: Nautilus fails to launch occasionally

2017-02-09 Thread Vej
Hello Brandon,

can you try to open nautilus from a terminal, please? This might give us
some extra error messages.

And please check if the command "net" from the package "samba-common-
bin" is installed on you machine:

Dec 6 21:15:28 BrandonsLaptop org.gnome.Nautilus[1601]: Nautilus-Share-
Message: Called "net usershare info" but it failed: Failed to execute
child process "net" (No such file or directory)

This does not seem to be a dependency (and I found several PCs with
working nautilus and without "samba-common-bin" installed). However
installing this could help us to find the cause for your problem though.

Best Regards

Vej

[Bug 1664794] Re: deja-dup crashes when auto setting turned off during backup

2017-02-15 Thread Vej
Hello Christopher.

This looks strange to me (the code for that slider is really simple). So
we need to examine this further.

Can you please try if you can reproduce this on your machine using a
local backup and a backup to an external harddrive? This might help the
developers to find the problematic code.

Another helpfull thing would be the file /tmp/deja-dup.log after
performing the following steps:

1. Start your affected network backup using the command "DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1
deja-dup --backup | tail -n 1000 > /tmp/deja-dup.log" from a terminal
2. Interrupt your backup by changing the value of the slider.
3. Scrub any incriminating file- and usernames from /tmp/deja-dup.log, before
uploading.

Best Regards

Vej

This sounds good to me!

I consider this to be Triaged, even if this bug has not been replicated
by someone else. The reason for this problem is found and a way to solve
it within Dèjá Dup is given.

I will forward to upstream as well.

Resetting to "Confirmed", because it turned out, that more triaging is
needed.

@Nathanael: Thanks for replicating the bug.

I did some searching for related bugs in duplicity and found bug
#1471818, which states, that these files are sometimes even deleted. So
we need to go into the code of both software packages now to find the
part, which needs improvement.

If you do (or did?) so, it would be helpful, if you could state filename
and line number of your findings.

I will come back to this bug later this week

- This server is behind a squid proxy.
+
+ [Impact]
+ An apt update of an apt repository that does not use InRelease during the
time it is being updated can cause the gpg file to not be downloaded and
updated. This makes the packages from the repository be unable to be
authenticated.
+
+ The Ubuntu Cloud Archive is one of the archives that meets this
+ criteria.
+
+ The impact to downstream automation deployment code is that if they are
+ adding the UCA repo to a system and calling apt update during the time
+ the UCA is being updated by Canonical, the repo can get into a state
+ where the Release.gpg file is not there and all package installs will
+ fail due to "unauthenticated packages" error.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ A detailed python script was attached.
+
+ To reproduce this outside that script you would want to:
+ 1. Add the UCA repo
+ 2. Do the following in a loop starting at 43 minutes after the hour and run
it until 55 minutes

[Bug 1657092] Re: deja-dup refers to "Files" instead of "Caja"

2017-02-27 Thread Vej
This text is only visible after a first full backup. I will change the
[Test Case] accordingly.

@Nathanaël: It can be debated, if this qualifies for an SRU. I would put
it under "Bugs which do not fit under above categories, but (1) have an
obviously safe patch and (2) affect an application rather than critical
infrastructure packages (like X.org or the kernel)." Nevertheless, I
will currently work on getting this to zesty.

** Description changed:

The Backups application's Overview screen says "You can restore the
entire backup with the Restore... button or use Files"

It should say "or use Caja", since the file manager in Mate has been
  renamed Caja.

  Screenshot attached.

- [Impact]
+ [Impact]
  * Users of Mate which use Déjà Dup get confused by the wrong terminology
regarding their file manager.
  * The upstream fix detects Mate desktops using XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP and fills
a new variable with "Caja" or "Files". That variable is included in the string
afterwards.

[Bug 1577927] Re: After upgrade, can no longer set tab titles

2016-10-06 Thread Vej
This seems to affect all users of 16.04. When I try <> I'm told, that this feature is not longer
supported. I wish to get this back!

Are there any reasons for the decision not to allow titles set by the user?
It is annoying!

I will therefore mark this as a duplicate and confirm both bugs.

@Xwarman: Please be aware that you disabled one of the major checks to
ensure a successful backup.

@all: I am wondering if this happens before or after the backup taking
place?

A more recent output of the file /tmp/deja-dup.log after running the
appropriate line below and replicating the problem might be helpful as
well. Especially because there seems to be another problem in the backup
of the original reporter. You may want to scrub the log of any
incriminating file names or details:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu (Gnome) version.

When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload an updated
