I'm marking this as a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/charm-

is going on, and why it is happening.

[Bug 1926249] Re: postcopy migration fails in hirsute (solved)

2024-04-11 Thread Alex Kavanagh
Based on @felipe's comment in #4, I'm triaging to medium. A possible
fix is to enable the sysctl to be executed if the config option "
enable-live-migration" is set to True in the charm. This is relatively
easy to do. It should also be documented in the charm-guide if the fix
is done.

[Bug 1926249] Re: postcopy migration fails in hirsute (solved)

2024-04-08 Thread Alex Kavanagh
I'm assigning this to won't fix based on it being a hirsute issue.
Hirsuite is EOL as of January 20, 2022. However, if this is affecting
newer releases of Ubuntu then please re-open. thanks.

[Bug 1959239] [NEW] Touchscreen only works on every second boot

2022-01-27 Thread Darrell Kavanagh
Public bug reported:

On first boot, the touchscreen works. After reboot it doesn't. Reboot
again and it works. Reboot again and it doesn't work. And so on. I have
discovered a workaround, which is to run "echo 1 >
/sys/bus/pci/devices/\:00\:15.1/remove" before rebooting. With a
script containing this command added to /usr/lib/systemd/system-
shutdown/, the touchscreen works on every boot.

Corey, I think the keystone-manage initial bootstrap create the fernet-
keys/ directory, so maybe something has changed there or there is a
change in sequence of hooks. Is the juju 2.9 or 2.8?

[Bug 1906266] Re: After upgrade: "libvirt.libvirtError: Requested operation is not valid: format of backing image %s of image %s was not specified"

2021-06-24 Thread Alex Kavanagh
Hi Christian,

I've tested the patch in your [2] ([2] below) and it worked perfectly.
I got a colleague to rebuild it for me against the current focal libvirt
[1] as I couldn't find your PPA mentioned. I'm upgrading an OpenStack
system from bionic-ussuri -> focal-ussuri, and confirmed that the
instance wouldn't start with 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.9. I then upgraded to
6.0.0-0ubuntu8.10.1~ubuntu20.04.1~ppa202106240958 from the PPA [1] and
the instanced started.

Is this sufficient to get it included in the focal archives?

Many thanks for your work on this.

[Bug 1885269] Re: ussuri: unable to stop and start an instance post upgrade

2020-06-26 Thread Alex Kavanagh
Additional details from a compute unit:

on nova/compute/1 -- before stopping the unit, but after upgrading from
train->ussuri on bionic. Note that the disk, console.log are owned
nova.nova.

root@juju-ed722c-mojo-17:/var/lib/nova/instances/499b7f90

After stopping the instance, the disk is now owned root.root. As there
is no world-readable perm, nova now can't restart the instance.

-rw-r- 1 nova nova79 Jun 25 17:46 disk.info

After fixing the permissions back to nova.nova and restarting the unit,
the console.log is now owned by root, and the disk by libvert-qumu.kvm.

-rw-r- 1 nova nova79 Jun 25 17:46 disk.info

When this unit is stopped, it again goes back to root.root.

root@juju-ed722c-mojo-17:/var/lib/nova/instances/499b7f90-4e5e-4eb9-b29b-2befe835cbe7#

The only real solution, for the moment, is to revert the permissions (as
indicated in the summary) back to world readable for the disk and
../_disk/* files.

[Bug 1885264] Re: neutron-ovs-cleanup runs on package upgrade

2020-06-26 Thread Alex Kavanagh
Some additional information regarding how the bug was found:

During the upgrade the ovs runs, deleting the ports. They don't come
back, even after restarting the services, which suggests an issue within
the neutron openvswitch agent in terms of re-creating ports that have
been deleted.

from the ovsdb-tool -mm show-log tool on the neutron-gateway AFTER the
upgrade.

[Bug 1802407] Re: ssl_ca not supported

2020-03-13 Thread Alex Kavanagh
Hi Mateusz

> Can we get this fix backported to Bionic ?

Not sure, as it is a new feature rather than a bug fix. However, it is
'bug' like in that one would expect it to work; I can ask, though.

[Bug 1864707] [NEW] arbitrary command execution vulnerability

2020-02-25 Thread Ryan Kavanagh
Public bug reported:

OpenBSD 6.6 errata 021, February 24, 2020:

An out of bounds read in smtpd allows an attacker to inject arbitrary
commands into the envelope file which are then executed as root.
Separately, missing privilege revocation in smtpctl allows arbitrary
commands to be run with the _smtpq group.

This affects Debian versions since 5.7.3p2 (released upstream
2016-02-02). In particular, every Ubuntu release since xenial is affected.
Quoting from the advisory:

This vulnerability, an out-of-bounds read introduced in December
2015 (commit 80c6a60c, "when peer outputs a multi-line response
..."), is exploitable remotely and leads to the execution of
arbitrary shell commands: either as root, after May 2018 (commit
a8e22235, "switch smtpd to new grammar"); or as any non-root user,
before May 2018.

https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2020/02/24/5

The other advisory fixed by the patches does not appear to affect
Debian because /proc/sys/fs/protected_hardlinks is 1 by default:

[Bug 1861242] Re: Major vulnerabilities in opensmtpd resulting in RCE and DOS

2020-01-29 Thread Ryan Kavanagh
For bionic (6.0.3p1-1build1) and eoan (6.0.3p1-6), you'll want to
cherry-pick the following two commits from debian/buster branch from the
opensmtpd git packaging repo in Debian:

2483c1fceb8225a89e93901e9b5d182d576ac488
8cfa5131f89b8d454b65d152d98dfb863e00295a

https://salsa.debian.org/debian/opensmtpd/tree/debian/buster

I'm attaching these two commits as patches.

[Bug 1861242] [NEW] Major vulnerabilities in opensmtpd resulting in RCE and DOS

2020-01-28 Thread Ryan Kavanagh
Public bug reported:

opensmtpd versions >= 6 have two vulnerabilities:

An incorrect check allows an attacker to trick mbox delivery into executing
arbitrary commands as root and lmtp delivery into executing arbitrary commands
as an unprivileged user.

smtpd can crash on opportunistic TLS downgrade, causing a denial of
service.

2019-10-31 Thread Alex Kavanagh
This appears to be a packaging bug rather than a charm bug; or it's
basically an issue with the openstack-dashboard in that the themes have
to be placed where packages put files, rather than in config. Either
way, it's invalid for the charm; changing it to the package.

[Bug 1842751] Re: [disco] [eoan] After unmount, cannot open /dev/vdb: Device or resource busy

2019-10-30 Thread Alex Kavanagh
> Hello - Does the recent switch from New -> Triaged for charm-cinder
and charm-nova-compute mean that someone was able to determine that the
charms are to blame and perhaps not the kernel?

Sadly not; I'm just knocking them off new; the alternative is incomplete
which means they'll time out after 60 days. As it is confirmed in the
kernel, it may well be invalid for both charms.

[Bug 1754657] Re: [SRU] python-pylxd 2.0.7 (xenial), python-pylxd 2.2.6 (artful)

2018-10-25 Thread Alex Kavanagh
@coreycb pike-proposed on xenial is giving python 2.2.6, which is fine
as it will work. 2.0.7 is in xenial standard:

sudo add-apt-repository cloud-archive:pike-proposed
sudo apt update
sudo apt install python-pylxd
apt policy python-pylxd

python-pylxd:
  Installed: 2.2.6-0ubuntu0.17.10.1~cloud0
  Candidate: 2.2.6-0ubuntu0.17.10.1~cloud0
  Version table:
 *** 2.2.6-0ubuntu0.17.10.1~cloud0 500
500 http://ubuntu-cloud.archive.canonical.com/ubuntu
xenial-proposed/pike/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.0.7-0ubuntu1 500
500 http://nova.clouds.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates/main
amd64 Packages
 2.0.0-0ubuntu1 500
500 http://nova.clouds.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64
Packages

This will certainly work as a combination of xenial/nova-lxd/pylxd and further
testing demonstrates that.
Happy to close.

[Bug 1794733] Re: python3-glance (2:17.0.0-0ubuntu3) isn't installing in cosmic

2018-09-28 Thread Alex Kavanagh
Yeah, this is a pain. cosmic-rocky is going to be a 'thing' though for
our OpenStack releases, so this is going to be awkward to fix if
upstream glance won't take the backport to rocky.

Is it possible to change the package to use py3compile with the -V
option: (from the help):

-V VRANGE force private modules to be bytecompiled with Python
version from given range, regardless of the default
Python version in the system. If there are no other
options, bytecompile all public modules for installed
Python versions that match given range. VERSION_RANGE
examples: '3.1' (version 3.1 only), '3.1-' (version
3.1 or newer), '3.1-3.3' (version 3.1 or 3.2), '-4.0'
(all supported 3.X versions)

i.e. we could exclude 3.7 from py3compile on pkg install?

[Bug 1794733] Re: python3-glance (2:17.0.0-0ubuntu3) isn't installing in cosmic

2018-09-27 Thread Alex Kavanagh
I suspect the reason is that 'async' is now a reserved word, and thus
glance can't use it for a module or submodule name.

In fact, we have a bug filed for this:

[Bug 1793137] Re: [SRU] Fix for KeyError: 'storage.zfs_pool_name' only partially successful -- needs changes

different to the ZFS pool name.

Description: OpenStack Compute Python libraries - LXD driver
OpenStack is a reliable cloud infrastructure. Its mission is to produce
the ubiquitous cloud computing platform that will meet the needs of public
and private cloud providers regardless of size, by being simple to implement
 and massively scalable.
 .
OpenStack Compute, codenamed Nova, is a cloud computing fabric controller. In
addition to its "native" API (the OpenStack API), it also supports the Amazon
 EC2 API.
 .
Nova is intended to be modular and easy to extend and adapt. It supports many
different hypervisors (KVM and Xen to name a few), different database backends
(SQLite, MySQL, and PostgreSQL, for instance), different types of user
 databases (LDAP or SQL), etc.

[Bug 1788040] Re: Replace LXD deb by snap in Ubuntu 18.10

2018-09-12 Thread Alex Kavanagh
>From the perspective of nova-lxd, there isn't a problem with the snap
version (as pylxd already works with a snap version of lxd). However,
the lxd charm will need to be altered to ensure that it installs /
otherwise manages the fact that lxd is supplied in snap form.

We do have some utilities to support installation of payloads from
snaps, but obviously, this is work that would have to be scheduled.
I'll chat in the OpenStack team about this and report back.

[Bug 1789427] Re: [SRU] Release tagged version 17.0.1 for stable/queens repositories

2018-09-10 Thread Alex Kavanagh
Hi Ɓukasz

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The openstack-lxd-bionic-
queens bundle tests the distro installed version of OpenStack on bionic,
which is the OpenStack queens release. I then used the queens-proposed
archive to verify that the 17.0.1 release of nova-lxd was being
installed and ran through the integration tests for this.

This confirms that the 17.0.1 release of nova-lxd with queens (which is
the openstack release for bionic) works with the rest of the bionic
package software.

> You mentioned queens proposed - does that imply testing of the
binaries that are currently in bionic-proposed?

Yes, I believe so.

Thanks
Alex.

Verified on bionic with queens proposed using https://github.com

lxd-bionic-queens bundle (for MaaS)

Verified that a server instance can be booted and that no errors occur.

[Bug 1754657] Re: [SRU] python-pylxd 2.0.7 (xenial), python-pylxd 2.2.6 (artful)

2018-06-06 Thread Alex Kavanagh
@Corey, yes, you're correct; xenial doesn't use it; It first appeared in
2.2.5, and xenial is on the 2.0.x series. So artful got 2.2.x series,
which means artful has the issue, whereas xenial as 2.0.7 which means it
doesn't have this feature (as we didn't backport it).
