Public bug reported:
Hi,
After a recent Hardy kernel upgrade from to 2.6.24-16 to 2.6.24-17 my
machine stopped coming back from suspended-to-ram state. The HDD spins
up but nothing else happens - neither the screen comes back from power-
save, nor the keyboard changes its LED states in response

After some more investigation it appeared that the machine resumes but
it takes ABSURDLY long time (anywhere from 90sec to 8 minutes). There
are some ACPI errors in dmesg - see the attachment for a dmesg log after
a single STR-Resume.

I have tried disabling nvidia driver, too, as well as unloading some
acpi-related modules and removing cpufrequtils - to no avail. It just
hangs for ages in the same code fragment (see dmesg.resumed, the
resume part)

Thanks folks, the STR in the -19 kernel works great, but it seems to
cause a regression: when trying to sudo reboot after a suspend-to-RAM
- resume cycle, the machine hangs at the splash screen, just after the
keyboard LEDs blink. Any clues?

Tim's fix with unload_modules did not work for me either. There were no
changes in the symptoms, and I could not check it with the -16 kernel
because it would not boot complaining about a screwed NVidia driver
(strange).

On Ubuntu 10.10, installing cdrdao does NOT fix the issue. Instead of a
crash, I'm now getting a popup:

Please install the following manually and try again:

Apologies for a mis-type, the cdrdao version is: 1:1.2.3-0.1ubuntu1

I can still reproduce the issue with all latest updates applied (as of

When I had just installed Lucid, the weather did display but, seemingly,
after a reboot it went away. When I hover a mouse over the current date

I got the same on my desktop and also lost my gnome session, except that
the code offset reported was 0x89/0x90. This essentially destroys the
entire machine suspension concept for me as the entire session context
is lost.

This bug appears to affect all state modifiers, including the keyboard
layout switch (the 'Win' key for me). As a result, you cannot hit 'Win'
and immediately start typing in a different layout. You have to wait a
bit (which is pretty tedious, as I have to switch layouts quite often)
