Hi Jeremy, I don't know what happened - but it looks as though my install got broke real good somehow. I did a backup and a fresh install of karmic and everything is working as per normal (suspend/resume). Don't know what to tell ya, other than I maybe shouldn't use my mission critical system

Okay. Problem solved. The issue was resolved by: (1) Uninstalling OpenOffice via Synaptic (2) Uninstalling Bonager. This was a bit of a bear - should've been unistalled BEFORE I install jaunty (from Intrepid). In any case these commands did the trick: sudo update-rc.d -f bonager remove sudo
