Public bug reported:
Hi,
since the 2.6.17 kernel serie, my laptop is not booting anymore.
It hangs on mounting root file system, then, after a while, I get a

thanks Ante Karamatić for your packages, but infortunately, it doesn't
solve the problem for me.
It seems that cupsd behave correctly as long as no other program uses it.
If i start gnome, then gnome-cups-icon makes cupsd runs 100% CPU.
If i kill it, cupsd still run but behave correctly.

I get about the same calls number than Gutaf.
Can not confirm when gnome-panel cool down, as it makes my laptop shut down
because of CPU heat before I even reach that point.
As a workaround, I send a signal 11 to gnome-panel, in order to
interrupt it and not auto respawn it.

lately i tried an older kernel, 2.6.15-23-686 that I could download from
ftp://ftp.port80.se/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-source-2.6.15/ .
It seems to be stable on my edgy system (I did'nt get any ata1 is slow to

The same kernel on dapper kept on freezing up.

well, kernel 2.6.15-23-686 is definitely stable on edgy, but not on dapper.
This is exactely the same .deb package so I start to believe that something
else interact with the sata drive and create the slowing down.
Maybe some power management software. I couldn't point this out so far.
--
well, lately i updated my edgy box and the stable kernel wasn't stable
anymore.
I finally spotted (i guess) which software messed it up:
*hal
*libhal-storage1
*hal-device-manager
*libhal1
stables version for me are:
hal_0.5.7.1-0ubuntu5_i386.deb
hal-device-manager_0.5.7.1-0ubuntu5_all.deb
Public bug reported:
hi,
I've trouble with my sata drives which hangs by times. I first thought
it was due to the kernel, but after some time I finally found that this
is due to hal.
This bug was first assigned to linux-source-2.6.15. you can get the thread from:
I got a workaround for that.
basically, change:
# Set configuration value, from CONFIG
if [ -n $MLDONKEY_DIR ]; then
WRAPPER_OPTIONS=$WRAPPER_OPTIONS --chdir $MLDONKEY_DIR
fi
to
# Set configuration value, from CONFIG
if [ -n $MLDONKEY_DIR ]; then
WRAPPER_OPTIONS=$WRAPPER_OPTIONS --chdir
Okie, problem solved since 2.6.17-9.

dbconfig-common cannot create database for package
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113310
You received this bug notification because
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xvnc4viewer
package: xvnc4viewer 4.1.1+xorg1.0.2-0ubuntu4
how to reproduce:
1. server is run on remote kde desktop using krfb with or without
authentication . screen size: 1024x768
2. vncviewer is set to use xvnc4viewer backend though
I can confirm this here as well.
In my case, I supply my user password but not my group password as I dont need
any.
ALSO, it is not nm-applet that crashes, but only NetworkMamager.
running ps aux | grep nm-applet
after a crash shows that nm-applet is still alive, but as it can't connect to

Well, people, I did an attempt to override this missing password assert.
I attach both the debdiff and a new .deb.
I sorted out my issue as I actually needed a group password (silly me :p ) so I
can't tell if this will work, but at least, the script will attempt to carry on
even though you
@Santos:
Although I know it should not be a long run solution installing debian etch
kernel worked for me
To you mean that debian etch kernel's kernel does not trigger the error?
If so, this is going to be a matter on patching the actual kernel, I would like
to confirm this behaviour.

I have my own mail server and my certificate is not signed by a trusted company.
The only thing I need is to have a connection tunneled through SSL.
I m pretty puzzled by the fact that Evolution ask me to accept this
certificate **every time** I open evolution. There is no checkbox to say
accept
Hi Tom,
The only thing I did was to comment out the bit of code that check that
both a user password and a group password were given.
I believe 99.9% of people might be using both password, but for some
specific cases, network-manager-vpnc should accept that one of the
password is not

This make more sense now.
It seems that it works better as IDE rather than SATA.
A fix seem to be in the process:

@santos:
If I remove ata_piix I can't get my kernel to boot, it hangs on mounting root
filesystem or something.
Would recommend people to back up their ata_piix.ko ;) and to have
another kernel ready to fall

Hard drive is said to be sd* with feisty denomination but it's no scsi
Yes, this is no SCSI, but this is a SATA drive isn't it? That is why is
it detected as sdXY
