I did the last updates (14/08/09) and still no luck.I tried again
disabling compositing but still no luck.The weird thing is that if I
press alt+f2 and type firefox, it works...and many others.I don't
know what's happening...

I found a workaround for thisI press alt+f2 and I open the konsole
and then I press plasma-desktop and the plasma startsIt seems that
this is plasma's problem.The problem is that I have to do this
everytimeDoes anyone know a way to fix this?To make it start
automatically everytime...

I also have this problem.I m running kubuntu 9.10 alpha 5 on asus eeepc
1000H.I tried the above fix but it's not workin for me because all my
files in the /etc/init ends in .conf.This happened after an update
yesterday.I did the update, played around for some time then I shut it
down and tonight

I also had this bug. I tried a few things and what worked was to boot at
first with acpi=off and nomodeset. Then I rebooted but this time only
with acpi=off. Unity was REALLY slow because I had no 3d acceleration.
Then I rebooted with no options and everything was OK (nouveau driver in
use). When

for those with amd/intel hybrid.
with the radeon driver the fan was really loud, the laptop was overheating and
the battery was draining fast. Then I tried fglrx but unity wouldn't load(only
the wallpaper and the mouse) so what I did for now is:
Remove fglrx and use opensource radeon
Use
