[Bug 1792838] [NEW] 1804.1 - sticky-keys not working in gnome-flashback

2018-09-16 Thread davidr
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

I installed 1804.1 on my pc. I was previously running 1604 series. When
using Gnome flashback sticky-keys settings do not work.

I originally opened a ticket in
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
flashback/+bug/1790744). A fix has been released and the developer
directed me to open a ticket here to get his fix into 18.04.

[Test Case]

While in gnome flashback go to system settings > Universal Access >
Typing and set Stcky Keys ON. I also use Beep when a modifier key is
pressed but that has never worked.

Open any document or a new text file and test: it does not work.

[Regression Potential]

The developer implies his fix can be back ported to 1804.

[Other Info]

Description: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Release: 18.04

gnome-flashback:
  Installed: 3.18.2-1ubuntu1
  Fix released in 3.30

Please let me know if further iformation is required.

[Bug 1445696] [NEW] Network Manager not recognising some VPN settings

2015-04-17 Thread davidr
Public bug reported:

14.04.1
Network ManagerImport saved configuration

The following are not recognised by Network Manager when importing a
saved configuration file:

1.
ca
certificate data
/ca

The certificate data has to be made into a separate file, e.g. cert.crt, and
the configuration file changed to
ca cert.crt

2.
auth-user-pass
does not work. E.g.,

auth-user-pass sometextfile.txt

has no effect - the username and password have to be put in manually.

It was confirmed and 'fixed'.

When 12.04.1 was released - it is still there.

Are there any instructions for streamlimining the 'fixed' code into the

[Bug 993242] Re: 12.04 Alternate AMD64 freezes on language selection

2012-05-09 Thread davidr
May I ask why this bug has been designated to expire?

Only five of us may have reported it _here_ but that does not mean there
is not a bug: others may just use PS/2 keyboards to install for example.
And the Logitech keyboard and behaviour and correct MD5Sums and the same
hardware performing perfectly OK with other alternate versions is simply
not overcoming the problem.

It's a slap in the face unless you can explain why it is happening that
is _our_ hardware fault.

[Bug 993242] [NEW] 12.04 Alternate AMD64 freezes on language selection

2012-05-02 Thread davidr
Public bug reported:

UBUNTU 12.04 AMD 64 BIT ALTERNATE

quad and six core AMD Phenom II
LOGITECH WIRELESS K520 KEYBOARD
NOTE: all equipment has loaded previous Ubuntu desktop and alternative systems
without problems

PROBLEM:
Using the 12.04 ALTERNATE AMD64 iso, the installation freezes at selecting
Language.
It installs OK with:
1. desktop version
2. a PS/2 keyboard.

Other wireless keyboards not tried (I only have logitech which, as I
say, have worked previously).

SUGGESTIVE OF a wireless keyboard driver not being installed before the
start of the install when using the AMD64 alternate install - as the
keyboard works fine until selecting Language.

No reports can be submitted as obviously none are generated.

The alternate version is required to install 12.04 on my business
computers.

2011-02-09 Thread davidr
Adding to Tony's remarks - I agree. Shipping 3.3 seems to have been a race
between oo and lo, and has left base useless.
It is shipping with these types of bugs disabling a package that makes it hard
to rely on linux software as reliable - until these failures are a thing of the
past.
Something was broken developing 3.3. Be careful when fiddling with things that
ain't broke.

[Bug 209532] Re: Accessibility keyboard settings get lost

2010-09-11 Thread davidr
josh,

You are correct. As the originator of a bug report concerning ubuntu
remembering settings and another re my above post, the two were combined
by the team(?) a long time ago. As this thread is combined with other
duplicates, I assume(d) the developers saw them as the same 'bug to be
fixed'. IMHO, it shouldn't be a feature request - just part of the
'modifier key' package. Which, as I say, was combined some releases ago,
with remembering settings.

I no longer have a record of the bug report, unfortunately.

I don't think the developers will be happy to start changing the package
yet again. Release 7 onward had problems and it still is not fixed ...

I'll make a Feature request but I still bring people's attention again
to what a modifier key traditionally has been. (bad English).

(Please excuse any bad expression)

[Bug 209532] Re: Accessibility keyboard settings get lost

2010-09-10 Thread davidr
Hi
Please could the developers include Caps On / Caps Off, Shift /Shift lock and
Numlock On/Numlock Off - these are modifier keys too.

I raised this some time ago but nobody made a comment. For those of us
without keyboard lights or sight impediments, the status of these keys
is important. E.g. I want to kn ow when I press either if I am
activating it or releasing it.

Shift - tone A
Shift lock - tone B
Shift unlock - tone A

Num Lock on - tone B
Num lock off - tone A

Caps lock on - tone B
Caps lock off - tone A

IMHO This should not be considered a feature request - it falls within
key modifier.

Assistive technologies are too important to be taking all these years to
work properly.

Regards
David

[Bug 209532] Re: Accessibility keyboard settings get lost

2009-07-12 Thread davidr
AMD64 - i386 status not known
Since the recent update (8.04.3 LTS, kernel 2.6.24-24) after mid June 2009 (I
have been away until a week ago) Keyboard accessibility has dramatically
worsened:
1. settings do not survive session
2. most of the time settings do not survive reboots
3. stickeykeys_two_key_off is not surviving many reboots or sessions.

In other words, it has got worse.

No new software added.

Any idea of timing for a fix on this, please?

2009-01-22 Thread davidr
Re the comments in #310122 re fixing it in hardy 8.04 / 8.04.1

This is a LTS release specificially so people don't have to upgrade to
the most recent version with all the possible 'new' bugs that might
entail.

Please tell me what LTS means if your solution is to upgrade to Intrepid
which is not LTS? You are putting us on a path of upgrading to every new
version instead of getting the support.

I am not meaning to be offensive, but isn't that saying that the

From the comments I referred to, it came across to me and other posters
that 'update' may be the suggested solution.

Please note that if Disable sticky keys if two keys are pressed
together, this is NOT changed in the Configuration
Editordesktopgnomeaccessibilitykeyboardstickykeys_two_key_off
check box.

This is constantly reset (i.e. ticked) either by booting or something
else. It is not possible to determine exactly when it gets reset as one
does not know until after the event.

[Bug 192172] Re: Notification area tray icons take a long time to load.

2008-08-01 Thread davidr
 Pedro Villavicencio,

I'm a user not a dissector.

From the information _I_ read above it is clear it happens on starting /
rebooting the system - that, to me, is the 'trigger'.

Running the desktop cd does not provide the same environment as an
installed system.

Ask us to do as, b, c ... in layman's terms ... most of us report bugs
with little tech background. Just closing the bug doesn't fix it.

[Bug 191181] Re: gnome sticky keys ignores two keys pressed together setting

2008-06-06 Thread davidr
My post referred to by pauls is:

For those who are having trouble with the system turning off sticky-keys
if two keys are pressed or if a modifier key is pressed with another
key, I found a setting in Configuration Editor which has stopped that
misbehaviour - for me. So, in case it helps others:

In Assistive Technologies Preferences Keyboard Accessibility Accessibility
tab, I have always set:
1. Simulate simultaneous keypress - ticked
2. Disable sticky keys if two keys are pressed - never ticked
Notifications: General:
3. Beep when accessibility features are turned on or off - ticked
4. Beep when toggle key is pressed - ticked
Sticky Keys:
5. Beep when a modifier key is pressed - ticked

However, despite 2. above, I found 100% of the time pressing a modifier
key and another key undid my settings. Very annoying with a trembling
hand!

Then I looked in Configuration Editor:
Applications System Tools Configuration Editor desktop gnome
accesibility keyboard.

I noticed that 'stickykeys_two_key_off' was still ticked which did not
seem logical given my choices. So I unselected it and since then have
not had a problem.

Hope this helps and works for you - sorry, I don't know a CLI way of
doing it.

[Bug 190579] Re: numlock does not stay enabled Hardy alpha4

2008-05-02 Thread davidr
I'm using a Microsoft wireless Multimedia Keyboard 1.0A, unknown generic
keyboards on others (all wireless).

All 3 still have it - 3 different motherboards.

Can't explain why - I don't know which logs to print that night help,
I'm afraid.

Methinks some do, some don't - but in Feisty I never had a problem so I
suspect it is not hardware combinations.

Nope - still here with me. Clean install.

I agree with antistress: what about new users ?
Will you say :
hello, ubuntu is for human being
by the way, start synaptic and install numlockx to fix the
known-bug-but-never-fixed of that LTS version

It's the same with the LTBug in Assitive Technologies ...

[Bug 116296] Re: No beep on keystroke when using accessibilty features

2008-04-20 Thread davidr
Why are Accessibility bugs always Low ( from my observation of
launchpad bug lists).

To people with special needs it can make the difference between a
useable system, a frustrating system or one that is too much work to
bother with.

PLEASE can these bugs be assessed purely on their use to those who NEED it?
This then places these bugs in the priority according to this Special Needs
group - making it a 'level playing field'. I have reported some of these bugs
for years but nothing has ever been done, or rarely done. There are posts about
this in the Ubuntu
Forums.

[Bug 217099] [NEW] efax does not start in receive mode

2008-04-13 Thread davidr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: efax-gtk

HARDY AMD64
Starting efasx-gtk worked OK in previous versions of Ubuntu that I have tried.

BUG IN HARDY:
efax will not start in receive mode when either started by Sessions using:
/usr/bin/efax-gtk -r

or by starting manually from ApplicationsOffice.

It only displays Socket running on port 9900 but does not go into fax
mode until Standby is pressed.

[Bug 209532] Re: Accessibility keyboard settings get lost

2008-03-31 Thread davidr
It seems that if a modifier and another key are pressed at the same time
it disables the Keyboard Accessibility settings for Enabling Sounds and
Modifier Keys, even though Disable if two keys pressed together is NOT
selected.

I have confirmed that the CapsLock key does not beep in Hardy Beta AMD64
but it does in Feisty.

[Bug 209420] [NEW] SeaGate FreeAgent 500MB USB drive display and sleep problems

2008-03-30 Thread davidr
Public bug reported:

New to bug reporting - whatever info is requested I will supply if I
haven't.

1. HARDY BETA AMD 64 - downloaded from Ubuntu 26 March 2008 (Australian - Optus
mirror)
2. SeaGate FreeAgent 500MB USB external drive - NTFS formatted. I have put all
SeaGate Ceedo software in a folder on the drive to isolate it from the system
3. Connect drive. Normal short delay then the window opens.
4. But, 100% of the time no contents are displayed - they do in Feisty.
5. As in all previous releases, once the drive has gone to sleep it will not
wake up in USB 2 mode unless it is disconnected/reconnected. Even then I am not
sure it reconnects at USB 2 mode - I suspect USB 1

[Bug 209532] [NEW] Accessibility keyboard settings get lost

2008-03-30 Thread davidr
Public bug reported:

Feisty i386, Hardy Beta AMD64 (at least)

When the Keyboard Accessibility settings for Enabling Sounds and
Modifier Keys have been set - but NOT set to disable if more than one
key is pressed - the settings stop working fairly rapidly in Hardy AMD64
and after most reboots in Feisty.

1. This is extremely annoying for those of us who need to hear when a
modifier key is pressed.

2. In Hardy AMD64 the Caps Lock key does not beep when modifier sounds
are enabled - in Feisty it does.

Please - this has been reported for years - please can more attention be
paid to this minority group of users who need their Accessibility
settings to be remembered by the system. It really is very important to
some of us.

Thanks ...
David
