I can confirm the bug with Hardy final, /etc/init.d/gdm stop takes
pretty much exactly 30 seconds.
Sometimes, however (I am currently not able to reproduce the situation),
/etc/init.d/gdm stop takes less than 1 second.

I am running on 3.0.0-15.24 from oneiric-proposed with no wavy output
whatsoever - problem solved. Thanks guys!

Same problem here: Running oneiric with 3.0.0-12-generic and cannot
find a link to a patched kernel. Maybe you can rebuild / repost for the
current stable distro? Thx already.

Unabl4e to do duplex printing using Ubuntu 11.10 , Brother 2170W
printer. My set-up is dual booting with Win 7 and Ubuntu current version
connected to the printer by wireless. Windows (Word) prints duplex
without difficulty but I have been unable to duplex print with Ubuntu
it should be
sudo dpkg -i *lp614238v201110271600*.deb

I have the exact same problem (and yes, it's annoying ;)). Pretty sure
that it's connected with
GLib-GIO-Message: Using the 'memory' GSettings backend. Your settings
will not be saved or shared with other applications.
popping up when running evince from terminal. Hope that helps.
