[Bug 648030] [NEW] pppd segfault libnss_compat-2.12.1.so

2010-09-26 Thread djdvant
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ppp

Description:Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release:10.10

ppp:
  Installed: 2.4.5~git20081126t100229-0ubuntu4
  Candidate: 2.4.5~git20081126t100229-0ubuntu4

  Version table:
 *** 3.8-3 0

Under Maverick, the ppp daemon segfaults and my adsl connection does not come
up.

pppd[1681]: segfault at 7fffb1377edf ip 7f749859dd4c sp
7fffb13724b0 error 6 in libnss_compat-2.12.1.so

To start the pppoe connection I need to run pon dsl-provider.

I used pppoeconf to setup everything, including this from the
/etc/network/interfaces file
auto dsl-provider
iface dsl-provider inet ppp
pre-up /sbin/ifconfig eth0 up
provider dsl-provider

[Bug 379313] Re: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch)

2010-09-09 Thread djdvant
By doing a dpkg -i --force-architecture which was the lazy way of doing
it

I should have done it properly by usingar to extract the deb, then
extract the data.tar.gz then compile the kernel module like in post
#71.

[Bug 561210] Re: Writing big files to NFS target causes system lock up

2010-09-01 Thread djdvant
Hi,

For me NFS locks up most often with large files when Gnome is running.
eg, I have two machines, one with a 4 core CPU/4GB RAM running Gnome
(machine A) and much smaller system single core/1GB RAM (machine B)

Same kernel version, copying the same file.

Machine A to B NFS pauses
Machine B to A NFS runs at max hard drive speed
Machine A to B (without Gnome running) NFS runs at max hard drive speed

Hi,

Same problem, the gnome-volume-control applet does not show any devices

applications like Totem and VLC

I have tried the built in alsa modules (1.0.21) and my own complied

[Bug 551816] Re: Lynx no longer works with my logitech dinovo bluetooth mouse and keyboard

2010-04-28 Thread djdvant
The worst part of this change is the fact that most mornings the
keyboard has lost its BT sync with Ubuntu, sometimes turning the
keyboard off and on works, but most time it does not and a red bluetooth
light appears on the keyboard meaning that the board cannot reconnect.

Which generally means powering the computer off and on to restore the
keyboard and mouse.

Is there anything that can be done to restore the original functionality
please?

[Bug 538796] Re: cannot open Firefox when libmoon is installed

2010-04-08 Thread djdvant
I found that doing:
1. apt-get purge moonlight-plugin-core moonlight-plugin-mozilla
2. Start firefox
3. Exit firefox
4. apt-get install moonlight-plugin-core moonlight-plugin-mozilla
5. Start firefox fixes the problem for me. Have reproduced the fix twice now:

First crash:
kbother...@kim-touch:~$ firefox
Attempting to load the system libmoon
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

After removing moonlight plugins:
kbother...@kim-touch:~$ firefox
OpenOffice path is '/usr/lib/openoffice'

After reinstalling the plugins:
kbother...@kim-touch:~$ firefox
Attempting to load the system libmoon

[Bug 357457] Re: fglrx causing APIC errors on AMD 780G

2009-06-15 Thread djdvant
I finally tracked why my computer would pause for 2 minutes every so
often. Typically I would hit reset, but today I left the machine
running and within 2 mins the screen came back to life. While the
screen was frozen other users network connections running though my
machine worked perfectly, it was just the screen that was locked up. I
have tried the latest AMD drivers as well.

[Bug 328436] Re: SASL/GSSAPI problem in OpenLDAP

2009-03-10 Thread djdvant
I have just upgraded to:
slapd and libldap-2.4.2 to version 2.4.15-1ubuntu1
 libsasl2-2, libsasl2-2-modules and libsasl2-2-modules-gssapi-mit to version
2.1.22.dfsg1-23ubuntu3

And slapd is no longer crashing. There has been no change in config,
just the upgrade.

2009-02-26 Thread djdvant
I have created a new Jaunty virtual machine with;
slapd (2.4.14-0ubuntu1) packages slapd, ldap-utils, libldap
 sasl2 (2.1.22-dfsg1-23ubuntu2) packages libsasl2-2, libsasl2-modules,

 kerberos 5 (1.6-dfsg.4~beta1-5ubuntu1) packages krb5-kdc, krb5-admin-server,

And now I can login using Kerberos and LDAP

[Bug 328436] [NEW] SASL/GSSAPI ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s Can't contact LDAP Server

2009-02-12 Thread djdvant
Public bug reported:

Bug Description: OpenLDAP, Kerberos5 are installed, but when trying to
use, for eg, ldapwhoami, openldap reports: ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s:
Can't contact LDAP Server

I have built two virtual machines, one running Intrepid amd64 and one with
Jaunty amd64.
Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release:9.04

Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

Both have the same packages installed, obviously with the latest version for
each distribution.
On both I can login to the LDAP database using SIMPLE, but when I use GSSAPI on
Jaunty it does not work, works fine on Intrepid. I am not sure which package
is causing the problem in Jaunty, so I have put the bug under slapd.

Debug logs and package versions attached

** Affects: openldap (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 273075] Re: MP4Box buffer overflow detected

2008-12-17 Thread djdvant
Thank you for that, gpac finally builds and installs but still doesn't
work. But I seem to have moved on, since I am converting to play on
Play Station 3 I now convert to .m2st files. I am not sure where I got
the script, but it does use tsMuxeR
(http://www.smlabs.net/tsmuxer_en.html)

I can now convert a 1GB matroska file in under 1 minute. Totem and VLC
play the files perfectly and there is no need to remix the surround
sound channels.

The mp4box error is:

MP4Box -add temp.h264 -add temp.aac -fps 23.976 -nosys -new temp.mp4
*** buffer overflow detected ***: MP4Box terminated

[Bug 293433] [NEW] ecryptfs-utils does not work with LDAP/Kerberos users

2008-11-03 Thread djdvant
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: Intrepid 8.10
eCrypt-utils version: 53-1ubuntu12
slapd version: 2.4.11-0ubuntu6
krb5-* version: 1.6.dfsg.4~beta1-3

All my users use OpenLDAP and MIT Kerberos5 to login, pam.d common-* and
ldap.conf files are correctly configured, e.g. ldapwhoami reports:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ldapwhoami
SASL/GSSAPI authentication started
SASL username: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
SASL SSF: 56
SASL data security layer installed.
dn:uid=testuser,ou=people,dc=x,dc=com

klist reports:

11/04/08 14:27:42 11/05/08 14:21:28 ldap/[EMAIL PROTECTED]

When using the tools from the ecryptfs-utils package such as:
ecryptfs-setup-private I get the following error:
ERROR: User [xxx] does not exist

e.g:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ecryptfs-setup-private
ERROR: User [testuser] does not exist

This user only appears in LDAP and SASLAUTHD with Kerberos providing
password auth.

This becomes an issue when using dovecot-auth, e.g:

[Bug 217058] [NEW] Hardy 2.6.24-16 make kernelrelease incorrect version

2008-04-13 Thread djdvant
Public bug reported:

I was trying to build the kernel module for VirtualBox (deb
http://www.virtualbox.org/debian/ gutsy non-free) which I have had no
problems building up to now.

After the latest kernel-source update VirtualBox reports
Makefile:86: *** Error: /usr/src/linux (version 2.6.24.3) does not match the
current kernel (version 2.6.24-16-generic). Stop.

I think that I have tracked this down to:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/build# make kernelrelease
2.6.24.3

Synaptic is reporting version: 2.6.24-16.30

I have tried to assign this bug to kernel-source-2.6.24 but lunchpad
does not know about this version.

I have extracted the kernel-source:

and run:

2.6.24-16

So the kernel source is reporting the correct version

[Bug 212067] [NEW] Hardy Alternate installer blank log screen

2008-04-04 Thread djdvant
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have been using the ubuntu-8.04-beta-alternate-amd64.iso Sat Apr
5 11:09:53 2008 (Australian Eastern Daylight Time) to rebuild one of my
boxes. Typically I would netboot but the current netboot files will not
detect any SATA hard drive in my amd64 or i386 computers.

The installer is fine, but if you ALT-F2 through F4 to get to a busy-box
or the log screen and then go back to the installer window after that
all the busy-box screens are blank with a flashing cursor. For screen's
2 and 3 you can press enter and the shell prompt will appear, but the
log screen is forever blank.

If you flip between installer and busy-box screens then the busy-box
screen will blank again, requiring ctrl-d and then enter to get a new
shell prompt.

Have tried this with both expert and non-expert modes, (F6 from the boot
menu), and with verbose and quiet as part of the kernel string and on
both computers.

PC1: AMD Phenom, nVidia 8800GTS, 8GB DDR2-1066 (amd64 version of Alternate ISO)
PC2: Intel Pentium Dual, ATI Radeon Express 1100, 2GB DDR2-667 (i386 version of
Alternate ISO)

I am putting this under busy-box as I do not know where it should be.

Thank you

[Bug 211241] Re: gdmgreeter crashed with SIGSEGV in g_build_filename()

2008-04-03 Thread djdvant
I can confirm for my amd64 machine that removing the gdm.conf-custom
restores the gdm greeter.

I have attached my (renamed) custom file

[Bug 193951] Re: Ubuntu Hardy initramfs-tools netboot initramfs-tools.conf missing

2008-03-07 Thread djdvant
After getting through most of the installation I found various
dependency problems with other packages.

Before starting a reinstall, I deleted most of the directories under
/var/lib. The only directories that I kept were cacti, gallery2, mysql.

I have finished reinstalling now without any problems.

[Bug 193951] [NEW] Ubuntu Hardy initramfs-tools netboot initramfs-tools.conf missing

2008-03-07 Thread djdvant
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I was doing a netboot using the latest hardy packages (21 Feb) over the
top of an existing hardy install.

The setup:

Drive Layout
/ freshly formatted
/home existing
/var existing, but with /var/lib/apt, /var/lib/dpkg and /var/cache/apt
deleted

The base installer would always fail while doing an update-initramfs
before the kernel was installed. In the install log I would get dpkg
--configure -a messages for initramfs-tools

Going through the log, the problem starts just after Processing
triggers for libc when the message ldconfig deferred processing now
taking place from this point on, the triggers for initramfs-tools fails
with the message /usr/sbin/mkinitramfs: line 83 /etc/initramfs-tools
/initramfs-tools.conf no such file or directory

To work around the problem, once the installer reported that initramfs-
tools was installed, I edited the /var/lib/dpkg/info/initramfs-
tools.postinst file and on the second line typedexit 0

This would allow the installer to continue and allow me to select
kernel-generic

Once the kernel started to download I removed the exit 0 from the
postinst file and update-initramfs would work.
