I've made a new install of 11.10 and I think I've finaly got rid of the binary
drivers (fglrx and fglrx-updates, there are two?) but I still can not log in in
X (I can login if I switch to console CTRL+ALT+F1)

Strange. Fix released and it crashes for me hitting ENTER at the login
prompt (running 11.10)
I added vt=7 to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf as below

and it stops crashing when hitting ENTER at the login promtpt. Nice!

I've done:
sudo mv /etc/init/plymouth-splash.conf /etc/init/plymouth-splash.conf.disabled
and added the line vt=7 to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf as below.

I've opened bug 887445 and found out that it is related to this bug. The same
problem remains in 11.10.

I could partition my hard disks and create several mount points.

Upps, I just retried it using the same steps. After the first click on
the workgroup I got the error message reported in bug 63102. However
this time the icon changed from a blank page icon to a network computer
icon. I was able to click on it and could browse the computer in the
workgroup.

I'm unable to test opening the share directly because my keyboard (old
Cherry via PS/2 adapter) doesn't work on the live CD. I'll try to

I seem to have the same problem now on 2.6.28.11, on boot the boot menu
appears allowing me to chose kernel alternatives, then when I chose
2.6.28.11 there is no further drive activity, finally the boot drops
into the busybox shell.
If I select to boot kernel 2.6.27.11 all works fine.
This all
this also affects Acer aspire D250. if I can recall corrctly there was a
patch/update for dk-power in between alpha and beta
release, after that everything went downhill.

All given solutions did not worked on touchsmart tx2.
The former config I used was to suspend on ac_power and battery.
I recognised that there is a difference when the laptop was suspended via
button and via closing the lid. Via button the resume went fine without any
following suspend action.
This is in someway near to mcz's solution. I wonder if you still get the
lid down event with your config?

I have this issue with a hp touchsmart tx2 running the latest karmic-amd64.

I can confirm this bug on Karmic Alpha 6: using ati or radeon driver
gives checkered display items, with vesa driver is picture nice, but
all 2d acceleration is gone (no videos). My graphic card is ATI Mobility

Yes please prioritize this. It is probably one of the major flaws of Ubuntu 8.04
