[Bug 1674570] [NEW] New caja window swallows the first typed letter

2017-03-21 Thread mahfiaz
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1) Open a new Caja window, e.g Placees -> Home Folder
2) Type "temp"
3) See that the box at the bottom contains only "emp" and "Templates" is
not selected.

What I expected to happen:

1) Open a new Caja window, for example from Mint Menu -> Home Folder.
2) Type "temp".
3) See that the box at the bottom contains "temp" and "Templates" is
selected.

http://paste.ubuntu.com/24219960/

According to lagerspetz it also happens on Linux Mint 18.1 (but not in debian
version).

[Bug 969489] Re: lightdm tries (and fails) to start too early?

2013-03-16 Thread mahfiaz
+1 for #48

On an Lenovo Thinkpad X200s with ext4 SSD (256GB Crucial V4) and some
integrated Intel graphics, it is reproducible even when just
/etc/init.d/lightdm restart -ing it from console, doing so happens every
15th time or so. Sleep 5 does not help, and stopped udevtrigger does
not work either, it just keeps getting killed. But respawning works
well. It often respawns 2 times in a row.

[Bug 574383] Re: Ambiance theme input boxes color gray

2012-05-03 Thread mahfiaz
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: light-themes

Input boxes color is gray. There are two good reasons for this to be black.
- 1. We should never reduce the contrast of text by default, because it kills
accessibility. A lot of bad monitors are out there which are hard to read
anyway.
+ We should never reduce the contrast of text by default, because it kills
accessibility. A lot of bad monitors are out there which are hard to read
anyway.

- 2. Openoffice uses Input boxes text color by default for document default
text color. If this is gray, all documents will have gray text and gray
formulas. While 50/256 gray is somewhat ok on screen, it produces nasty results
on print (causing rasterised output, which makes all curves jiggly). This is A
Bad Thing™, and definitely worse for the default theme.
- The worst of this is that the gray default color is saved into document and
changing the theme color affects only newly created ones. One could change the
color of Default text style back to black, but if you have formulas, then
these remain gray even after that. AFAIK only workaround for formulas is adding
color black {} to all formulas.
-
-
- While we could argue that openoffice shouldn't use input box text color,
but for the first argument I think the theme should be adjusted.

[Bug 574383] Re: Ambiance theme input boxes color gray

2012-05-03 Thread mahfiaz
No, this would create a bigger mess at bigger scale, just try out the
High Contrast Inverse theme (white text on dark blue background).

Also I just noticed that the equations are now always black (so the
other half of my last comment does not hold anymore, changed the
original description as well). So LibreOffice does everything as best as
it can now.

But I am still conviced that we shouldn't put gray text on light gray
background in the default theme.

[Bug 574383] Re: Ambiance theme input boxes color gray

2012-04-28 Thread mahfiaz
Hate to say it, but it's even worse since changing that color back to
black is now harder than before when we had Gnome 2 and nice dialog for
this.

Virtually ALL text on screen is gray, half of it on gray background as well,
with web and mail being the only exceptions. It makes reading harder.
People sometimes use their laptops in sunny rooms, in direct sunlight, they may
have poor eyesight, they would like to reduce screen brightness to save
battery, etc. In all these mentioned cases having lower contrast is wrong.

Actually it doesn't affect exporting to PDF or printing from LibreOffice, text
is converted to black. But there is one huge exception, equations still remain
gray everywhere.

[Bug 926561] [NEW] Nautilus navigation when typing start of folder/file name slightly broken

2012-02-04 Thread mahfiaz
Public bug reported:

Unfortunately I don't know how to call that feature, but I just tried
the same in Debian Wheezy and it worked fine there.

What to do:
1. Open a folder with nautilus
2. Type a few letters, a yellow box appears
3. Double-click on a folder to open it, the yellow box should disappear (it
does so in Wheezy), but it doesn't.
Now if you want to type something new you are doomed, you need to click into
the box and delete text.

[Bug 491055] Re: Gnome-volume-control and -applet do not switch volume controls when new audio output is inserted

2011-01-16 Thread mahfiaz
Please, someone take a look at this.

I once more describe how to trigger this one:
1. Connect USB speakers (pretty cheap these days)
2. use gnome-volume-control to change output to USB speakers
3. see how your laptops volume buttons work good with these
4. disconnect USB speakers, volume comes from the internal speakers
5. test how volume buttons are still good
6. reconnect USB speakers, sound comes from these
7. but volume buttons still drive internal speakers' volume, so have no effect
As a workaround you need to open gnome-volume-control again (you probably had
it closed),
and from output choose internal speakers (which causes the sound to jump to
these) and pick USB speakers again. Now everything is as expected. While
including the jump of sound, this is a lousy workaround.

So what should gnome-volume-control do? Every time a *previously used*,
but simply disconnected (and not chosen to be unused before that) device
reappears, it should be selected as default device. Since this is
exactly what pulseaudio does, you don't even have to trigger the output
change, it is done in pulseaudio anyway (not sure if this is a good or
bad thing).

[Bug 548981] Re: Indicator should only turn red after the last package has been installed

2010-12-04 Thread mahfiaz
Maybe the /usr/share/update-notifier/notify-reboot-required could check the
/var/lib/dpkg/lock, and keep the loop until it is clean.
Or maybe even whatever (applet?) watchs for /var/run/reboot_required should
watch the dpkg lock as well and display the red only when reboot_required is
present and dpkg/lock is not. So when you start a second upgrade or install, it
would turn back to black.

[Bug 662070] [NEW] Synaptic translation fixes

Public bug reported:

The synaptic Estonian translation had encoding issue in upstream when it
was included in Ubuntu maverick. Now certain characters show up as ?

[Bug 574383] Re: Ambiance theme input boxes color gray

2010-05-23 Thread mahfiaz
I think this *is* a important bug, since it has major drawbacks in
printing.

Please don't consider this rude, but I will state the problem more clear:
* Everybody using default theme will get really printing quality from
OpenOffice using default settings. *

Until this is fixed in Openoffice, we really should keep the themes using black
text. This affects almost all the themes:

[Bug 574383] [NEW] Ambiance theme input boxes color gray

2010-05-03 Thread mahfiaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: light-themes

Input boxes color is gray. There are two good reasons for this to be black.
1. We should never reduce the contrast of text by default, because it kills
accessibility. A lot of bad monitors are out there which are hard to read
anyway.

The worst of this is that the gray default color is saved into document and
changing the theme color affects only newly created ones. One could change the
color of Default text style back to black, but if you have formulas, then
these remain gray even after that. AFAIK only workaround for formulas is adding
color black {} to all formulas.

While we could argue that openoffice shouldn't use input box text color, but
for the first argument I think the theme should be adjusted.

[Bug 526744] Re: Background misplaced on dual monitor setup.

2010-02-26 Thread mahfiaz
It being hw-specific is *very* unlikely. Otherwise would panels and windows
also be misplaced.
It appears as well on a single monitor. Change your background to solid black
to see a white 1px border on the left side of the monitor.

[Bug 526744] [NEW] Background misplaced

2010-02-23 Thread mahfiaz
Public bug reported:

The background is misplaced 1px to the right which leaves a 2px white border on
left side.
The misplacement continues to the external monitor, which also has a 2px wide
bar from the left-placed image. If the left side monitor is of smaller height
than the right one, some of the 2px border is shown as background image instead.

It may also happen, that right-placed external monitor has white 2px
borders both on top and right edges.

[Bug 244353] Re: [ooo-build] OpenOffice exports PDF with arabic numerals instead of regular numbers

2009-04-28 Thread mahfiaz
I add to Scott Thatcher, that I have the same situation (64bit, jaunty).
Playing with PDF/X-a1 settings just changes where the wrong characters
show up, whether on embedded calc sheet, native formulas or in tables.
Sometimes part of the formula has numbers and the other part has these
wrong characters (some non-arabic numbers as seen in test.pdf).

[Bug 55273] Re: inkscape generates no latex formula

2008-11-12 Thread mahfiaz
Sorry to disappoint you, but current practice is to mark bug fix released
when patch is committed to trunk. This is simply to reduce the time some
developer would need to waste marking fix committed bugs as fix released.
This has been discussed, this probably will not change.
If you really need this patch you can compile inkscape yourself, this isn't
that hard at all, just follow
http://inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/CompilingUbuntu and you will get a bunch of
additional breathtaking new features (and some bugs).

[Bug 257685] Re: Inkscape color chooser widget's maximum limited to 245 instead of 255

2008-09-03 Thread mahfiaz
Copied from gnome bugzilla:

--- Comment #1 from Matthias Clasen 2008-09-04 00:47 UTC ---
GTK+ is simply enforcing documented behaviour now. The fix is to set page_size
to 0 when using adjustments for simple scalar values, such as in a slider.

From the release notes:

* GtkAdjustment now enforces that values are restricted to the
range [lower, upper - page_size]. This has always been the documented
behaviour, and the recommended practice is to set page_size to 0
when using adjustments for simple scalar values, like in a slider
  or spin button.

[Bug 257685] Re: Inkscape color chooser widget's maximum limited to 245 instead of 255

2008-08-29 Thread mahfiaz
I should have marked this one duplicate, as the following bug report is more
descriptive, sorry for drmad.
But the problem really seems to be caused by new GTK+ 2.13, when it happens in
0.46 source-built version (see referred link).

[Bug 262694] [NEW] pam-pkcs11 required dependencies not met

2008-08-29 Thread mahfiaz
Public bug reported:

Intrepid. Needed for estobuntu, for example.

sudo apt-get install pam-pkcs11
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
pam-pkcs11: Depends: libldap2 (= 2.1.17-1) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

[Bug 257685] [NEW] Inkscape color chooser widget's maximum limited to 245 instead of 255

2008-08-13 Thread mahfiaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: inkscape

Ubuntu Intrepid, inkscape-0.46-2ubuntu1

This makes hard to get white objects (hex input helps), as RGBA value
becomes f5f5f5f5.

It may be related to usa of new GTK+ 2.13 library
