I can confirm that this installs cleanly on a updated edgy amd64 box.
It runs with all the media clips that I threw at it: mpeg2/ac3,

This happens when a user has installed xserver-xgl from the beerorkid
repos or their many mirrors.

Your best bet at this point is to
sudo apt-get remove --purge mythtv-database
and reinstall it.

I can't exactly follow what the workaround posted above was doing since his
site went down. Based on the fact that it is trying to get into the database
by a random string of characters, I would bet those characters were the
password generated for your mythtv user on the mysql
xmltv-util isn't needed for every installation, therefore it should not
be in the depends. Closing this bug.

Error During Update to 7.10

I am trying to upgrade to 7.10 using upgrade manager I get an error it says it
can't get files. Says network error.
