Sorry, I guess my comments weren't very clear. This is a new package which I
created and submitted through REVU. It is in its first release with Ubuntu
11.10. I have some bug fixes that I updated in the package in lp:wakeup, and I
would like it if users would be able to get those updates.
Thanks for reporting! Could you add some info on how to duplicate: how
many alarms were set? Were they bootable alarms? Did you run
setnextalarm.py from wakeup-settings or from the command line? etc

Okay, I can remove as many temporary files as possible. I'm not sure
which temporary files you're still worried about, though. I thought that
the way I have it temp files are only used by root if they are created
by root. For instance, setnextalarm.py is only ever called by root.

I believe I have fixed these - the only temporary files still used in
/tmp are never used as executables (made by voice_list.sh). For the
sketchy creation of the root playfile, I now have a separate script to
create and write to the file which is run as root so that the file is
created with root
Okay, the temporary files I believe are now secure. Any files created in
/tmp are made using mktemp (in bash scripts) or tempfile (in python
scripts). The playable_text file is created (owned) by root and chmod
700 prior to writing if it will be run from root's cron.

for instance is contained in ~/.wakeup/ and should be accessible only by
the user and root.
Okay, thanks. Just for clarification, do such temporary files need to be
generated randomly? There are 2 files I am specifically concerned about.
These are the files which play the actual alarms (ie, the alarms are
executable bash scripts called by /usr/bin/wakeup):

Hm, okay. A sudo password is requested to create the file if it will be
executed by root. Does this mean that as long as I alter the permissions
of the file upon creation such that only root can write to it later
(chown root; chmod 700), then it should be secure?

Hi Julian, sorry about the backup files, here's a new debdiff without
them attached. Those warnings I think are fine. The first three are
picking up that I have defined variables using an exec call, which is
maybe not the best practice but work perfectly fine and have not ever
been the cause of
The call to crontab -l fails if there is no crontab. Without this check,
wakeup fails to set any alarms when no crontab yet exists. The second
call is NOT meant to be -l, it is good as is. This just creates a new
crontab when none exists.
That is, if `crontab -l` fails, there is no cron set up,
(I should also mention that there is a bug associated with this which
these lines fix: LP: #998927)

which was a change put in to avoid python-evolution dependence due to me
being slow on fixing that, but version 1.3 actually has a working

Installing python-gnome2 solves this, because it adds the bonobo
modules. ecal and ebook cannot be imported in python-evolution's
__init__.py without bonobo:

Installing python-gnome2 does not solve all the issues. Although ecal is
imported properly, it does not function in every way it should.
For example, this is correct:
