Marc,
My apologies for this false flag. it has been a while since I have used SDC
in more recent versions. (I still use SDC from 10.10 every once in a while).
I just tired it on another install and it does not ask for password.

@marc,
Yes .. I see that now. In fact I am used to just using the restore
option on gnome 'disks' which works just beautifully.

This flowchart is simply making to many wrong assumptions. Those being
the logic is expectant that the end_user is an expert linux/ubuntu user.
The end_result, that ubuntu expert users never use update-manager.This
redundancy affects user_space.

This is a serious instructional development bug with a main component of
the ubuntu LTS notification process reporting inaccurate information
during a sensitive upgrade session. Although it is not a critical bug in
the overall upgrade, it affects user space is that the end_users have
to assume it
Public bug reported:
while testing an upgrade from Lubuntu 14.04.4 to xenial using update-
manager -d -c it notifys that xenial is still in development and not an
LTS version. - see screenshot at link.

@Doug,
I am not sure exactly what package to file the bug against. I tried pkexec and
polkit etc.. but there are no such packages.
So I'll just wait and see if they triage this.
