[Bug 1784316] [NEW] volume control doesn't work for bluetooth headset

2018-07-30 Thread Ákos Maróy
Public bug reported:

Hi,

After I've connected my bluetooth headset (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1782893 ), it seems
the volume control doesn't work. e.g. if I adjust the volume in settings
/ audio, it doesn't have an effect on the headset volume. if I adjust
the volume on the headset itself, the difference in volume is not
reflected in the control panel (e.g. the slider doesn't move)

what I would expect is that the volume setting at the headset and in the
settings menu are in sync, and these two set the 'same' volume

[Bug 1782893] Re: Bluetooth not working on Dell XPS 15

2018-07-30 Thread Ákos Maróy
thanks, this seems to make it work

now the only strange thing seems to be that the volume control doesn't
work, but I guess that's a different issue / topic

so: why did this not work out of the box?

interestingly, bluez was not yet installed. after installing, I see:

...

and then it also shows devices on the Bluetooth tab in Settings. so this is
great progress.

but not all is right. if I pair it with for example a Bluetooth headset, it
seems to pair, the it's 'Connected' for a second, and then it won't ever
connect.

this is the log:

might it be that the Settings panel Bluetooth thing interferes with the

[Bug 1782893] Re: Bluetooth not working on Dell XPS 15

2018-07-23 Thread Ákos Maróy
$ rfkill unblock 3
$ rfkill list
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
3: hci0: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no

but the result is the same. I open the settings panel, go to the Bluetooth tab,
try to turn it on, the switch shows 'ON', but nothing changes. going away from
this tab and back will show the switch 'OFF'

is there a command line tool I can turn on & off?

yes, this is the effect on clean boot as well, not just after a reboot

[Bug 1769819] Re: Xorg crashes after system sleep / wakeup

2018-05-09 Thread Ákos Maróy
done. the new bug is bug #1770322

this was created by running ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-core

I wasn't able to determine the big ID when running ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_usr_lib_xorg_Xorg.0.crash . also the system seemed to
automatically run ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_lib_xorg_Xorg.0.crash after
logging in

[Bug 1770322] [NEW] Xorg crashes after system sleep / wakeup

2018-05-09 Thread Ákos Maróy
Public bug reported:

after putting the system to sleep, and waking it up, Xorg crashes, and
I'm lead to a new greeter / login screen. naturally the state of my
desktop is lost in this process, and I'm stuck with a new login with no
apps running.

the error reporter says:

Error: [Errno 21] is a directory:
'/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/:01:00.0/'

which is indeed true:

$ ls /proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/\:01\:00.0/
information registry

the same system worked fine with ubuntu 17.10

this is a follow-up filing for bug 1769819, after X server core dumping has
been enabled:

$ cat /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
...
[debug]
# Uncomment the line below to turn on debugging
# More verbose logs
# Additionally lets the X server dump core if it crashes

can you be more specific about the workaround. I read but 994921, but
didn't find a clear reference as to what would need to be done

[Bug 1769819] [NEW] Xorg crashes after system sleep / wakeup

2018-05-08 Thread Ákos Maróy
Public bug reported:

after putting the system to sleep, and waking it up, Xorg crashes, and
I'm lead to a new greeter / login screen. naturally the state of my
desktop is lost in this process, and I'm stuck with a new login with no
apps running.

the error reporter says:

Error: [Errno 21] is a directory:
'/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/:01:00.0/'

which is indeed true:

$ ls /proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/\:01\:00.0/
information  registry

the same system worked fine with ubuntu 17.10

[Bug 522998] Re: XHCI (USB 3.0) kernel Module Prevents Suspend

2012-12-09 Thread Ákos Maróy
I seem to have the same issue with 12.10, kernel 3.5.0-19-generic. this
is what I get in dmesg when trying to suspend:

[   40.213352] xhci_hcd :02:00.0: WARN: xHC CMD_RUN timeout
[   40.213370] suspend_common(): xhci_pci_suspend+0x0/0x40 returns -110
[   40.213373] pci_pm_suspend(): hcd_pci_suspend+0x0/0x30 returns -110
[   40.213376] dpm_run_callback(): pci_pm_suspend+0x0/0x140 returns -110
[ 40.213379] PM: Device :02:00.0 failed to suspend async: error -110

interestingly, xhci_hcd seems to be not compiled as a module for this kernel?
at least, lsmod doesn't show it, lsmod | grep xhci returns nothing.

I wonder how one can disable a module if it's compiled into the
kernel

[Bug 1085035] [NEW] fgrlx module does not build kernel driver

2012-11-30 Thread Ákos Maróy
Public bug reported:

when installing the fglrx module, it doesn't build the kernel driver,
because it doesn't install the kernel sources as a dependency. from the
command line output to apt-get install fglrx:

Loading new fglrx-9.000 DKMS files...
Building only for 3.5.0-19-generic
Building for architecture x86_64
Module build for the currently running kernel was skipped since the
kernel source for this kernel does not seem to be installed.

IMHO it should build the kernel module, and if needed, install all packages to
build the kernel module

[Bug 1006258] Re: audio input for Intel 82801JI audio device not working

2012-06-01 Thread Ákos Maróy
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected precise

** Description changed:

  I have an intel 82801JI audio chip on my motherboard, which can't record
  sound after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04. while on ubuntu 11.10, it could
  record sound.

  I can see the audio input device via the audio settings menu, and also
  with alsamixer, but no input would come in. I've tested with two
  microphones, with plugged in both into the mic and line-in inputs. I've
  tested recording with the ubuntu audio recorder tool, and also with
  skype - none of them record any sound, and the input level is 0 on the
  audio mixer panel.

  playback works fine

[Bug 1006258] Re: audio input for Intel 82801JI audio device not working

2012-06-01 Thread Ákos Maróy
interestingly, if I boot with kernel 3.0.0-19-generic, recording works
fine, when selecting the 'front mic' input channel. also, the pulse
audio mixing panel will show all input channels: line-in, microphone and
front microphone (with kernel 3.2, only a single input channel is shown)

additional info:

[Bug 1006258] Re: audio input for Intel 82801JI audio device not working

2012-06-01 Thread Ákos Maróy
actually, the issue is fixed not by reverting back to the old kernel,
but by adding the following module option into /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-
base.conf :

options snd-hda-intel model=intel-x58
