[Bug 1536353] Re: [regression] Printer drivers install is broken as lsb package is not available anymore
@Douglas thats a valid question but in that case, we would need to be wary about bulletins from places like lwn or other boards. LSB in itself is just a hierarchy and has no access to net or any critical file in the system. Also for those who update from 14.04 or 15.10 with lsb installed, Xenial update doesn't remove the lsb files. Also bear in mind most distributions are using older 4.1 version and not the latest version 5.0 which includes SUSE, Red Hat and Arch. Hopefully Canonical will fix this issue so we don't have to indulge in this particular hack. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1536353 Title: [regression] Printer drivers install is broken as lsb package is not available anymore To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-filters/+bug/1536353/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1536353] Re: [regression] Printer drivers install is broken as lsb package is not available anymore
Suggestion from openprinting forums... Firstly, install the package with dpkg -i , then change the dependency on lsb to lsb-base by editing /var/lib/dpkg/status and finding the epson package in that file. Then change the Depends: line to lsb-base so it looks like Depends: lsb-base Then run apt-get install -f to configure the dirver properly. The second thing is, because this isn't a real LSB system (or, seems so to me) then you have to have a LSB compatible loader in /lib64 so we need to symlink the standard link loader instead. As root, you would ln -s /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 /lib64/ld-lsb-x86-64.so.3 This satisfies the loader for the printfilter. After these steps, my networked XP-312 worked. I suspect this to be the case for many of the LSB based Epson drivers on Ubuntu 16.04 (maybe earlier versions of Ubuntu as well, actually).
ESCPR method doesn't work for CISS printers like Epson L800 and therefore there is no other way but to install via .deb from Epson site, also the utility for ink tank status and nozzle cleaning needs lsb as well. I have the same issue, ESCPR doesn't support any of the CISS Epson printers like L200 or 800. My 800 worked fine under 14.04 with downloaded driver and utility. The later would allow check of ink status and do nozzle cleaning. Due to missing lsb-core both are impossible to be installed under 16.04. [Bug 1233479] Re: ondemand cpufreq governor does not scale CPU freq on Sandybridge
Intel pstate needs to be activated as it does a far better job of managing CPU power especially in quad and octo core CPU like 3rd and 4th gen i7. The turbo is handled far better than cpu-freq. Best of all with Intel Thermal Daemon the temperature issue is non existent even under full load. Now the behavior is same as a Windows machine. Even power consumption with TLP installed is same as Windows. Ubuntu needs to activate the pstate driver in 3.11 for 13.10 and it would be a good idea to patch LTS 3.80 kernel with this driver if possible. Also Intel Thermal Daemon needs a PPA at least. Currently it has be be compiled in, its a must for maintaining heat in i7 IVB and Haswell for laptops as well as power efficiency. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1233479 Title: ondemand cpufreq governor does not scale CPU freq on Sandybridge To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1233479/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1188647] Re: Please change intel_pstate default to disable
I switched from Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS with 3.80 kernel to Manjaro. The reason is Ubuntu enables nvidia optimus technology via the latest 319 drivers. In practice Ubuntu is among the few distros where the current implementation of works well. The frame rates with games go more than twice than with Bumblebee and optirun command. All this is fine if your intention are to use your laptop as a gaming machine. Sadly on my i7 ivybridge laptop, this also meant added heat to the tune of +10C and more at idle as compared to Bumblebee as well as very low battery life, I lost close to one and half hour. I decided to try out Manjaro as it brings me to Arch minus the headaches. Manjaro implements latest nvidia 325 drivers during install with choice of kernel 3.4, 3.10 and latest 3.11 This also gave me a chance to try out Intel's Pstate driver. In 3.11 it has matured greatly. In practice compared to non Pstate kernel 3.4 the CPU at idle ran around 50C average whereas with 3.4 kernel they would run at 45C going down to 39c sometimes. This was kind of disappointing but I saw the cores getting better utilized and system response snappier than cpu freq ondemand. I then decided to install Intel Thermal Daemon and something wonderful occurred. The idle temps didn't go down but peak temps under full load never ever exceeded 60C with max of 68c under full load. Without the daemon under full load they would touch up to 75, still lower than close to 90c I was getting with Ubuntu and kernel 3.8 The temp average now puts Windows machine to shame, its lower under load and also battery life with TLP is as good as Windows machine. So looks like good things are in store for Linux in future. The kernel 3.11 is a beauty, rock stable and very efficient with far lower memory consumption. Time for Ubuntu to get into action on this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1188647 Title: Please change intel_pstate default to disable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1188647/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1219908] Re: [needs-packaging] All nvidia-current and nvidia-updates need repackaging to mirror official Nvidia releases...
I don't know if its a installer error but when I installed Ubuntu 12.04.3 on my i7 laptop with nvidia GT630M card, I found on booting that nvidia driver 319.49 and nvidia-prime package already installed. The system runs quite good and the temperature of power consumption is not that drastically high as I expected from a system where the nvidia card is always on. I guess Optimus is working well.
