Gianfranco: I made comment 30 confirming that I have this bug on a Trusty system: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox/+bug/1818049/comments/30 For the record: I am using the version of Virtualbox supplied with Trusty. [Bug 1818049] Re: virtualbox dkms modules fail to build with linux 4.4.0-143.169 [error: too many arguments to function ‘get_user_pages’]
Just above comment 15 Mathew Hodson (mathew-hodson) changed the Ubuntu Trusty status to: Invalid → Won't Fix. Why is this? This is broken on one of my Trusty systems. My system is as follows: > $ uname -a > Linux hostname 4.4.0-143-generic #169~14.04.2-Ubuntu SMP Wed Feb 13 15:00:41 > UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux > > $ lsb_release -d > Description:Ubuntu 14.04.6 LTS If I try to load a virtual machine I immediately get a GUI error message box popup stating: > VirtualBox - Error in suplibOsinit > > The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is > a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. ... If I reboot into the previously installed kernel (4.4.0-142-generic), I do not get the error and can successfully run my virtual machine. Note the output of the following commands: > $ find /lib -name "*vboxdrv*" > /lib/modules/4.4.0-142-generic/updates/dkms/vboxdrv.ko > > $ ls -1 /lib/modules/ > 4.4.0-142-generic > 4.4.0-143-generic The vboxdrv module is present for the -142 kernel but not the -143 Please can this also be fixed for Trusty. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1818049 Title: virtualbox dkms modules fail to build with linux 4.4.0-143.169 [error: too many arguments to function ‘get_user_pages’] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox/+bug/1818049/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1610608] [NEW] Browser slowdown: cause: global menu integration with many bookmarks
Public bug reported: OS: Ubuntu Desktop 14.04.5 LTS (fully up to date) Firefox: 48.0 build 2 (it's the package supplied by default in Ubuntu) The problem: I have ~2200 bookmarks in my Firefox profile. These are being displayed in the Unity global menu. This causes the following problems: * Firefox becomes unresponsive for roughly 2 seconds every 15 seconds. * The Ubuntu Unity global menu system itself starts to misbehave. Regarding the "misbehaving". One example is this. My email client has a menu bar. When Firefox is running in the background and my mail client is focused, I can press the Alt key to search the menu. I type a few key strokes and I then hit enter on the option I want. Nothing happens. So the menu searching and displaying is working but you can't actually activate an item. This issue only occurs with Firefox running. Work-around: go to: about:config set: ui.use_unity_menubar;false observe that Firefox is now once again responsive to use. My old work-around: Before Firefox 48.0 I was able to work around this issue by simply making sure that the vast majority of my bookmarks were not displayed in the "Bookmarks Menu". Now that the latest release of Firefox has forced all bookmarks (including "Other Bookmarks") to appear in the menu, this work around does not work. So I now have to disable Unity menu bar integration. One possible fix: Override the new Firefox behaviour that forces "Other Bookmarks" to display in the menu. This means users have the option of making their bookmarks not be loaded into the Unity global menu. If you did this, it may also be worth adding some code to detect vast numbers of bookmarks being displayed in the global menu. When this occurs you could display a message to the user informing them that they should move bookmarks out of the "Bookmarks Menu" and into "Other Bookmarks" (as visible in the Firefox "Library"). I expect I'm not the only long-term Firefox user to have built up over 2000 bookmarks. I expect many users wont be able to find the cause of the Firefox slow downs and global menu misbehaving, so they will be stuck with it or will switch to another browser. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1610608 Title: Browser slowdown: cause: global menu integration with many bookmarks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1610608/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1296284] Re: New stable release: 3.3.1 available. Fixes potential security vulnerabilities.
Thanks for the response Seth. I've emailed the developer (Hiroyuki) informing him of this bug and requesting his assistance. If he is able to assist and has time, then we should expect him to create a launchpad account and respond to this bug report. I've been unable to find the specific commits mentioned in his news item. I've looked in his version control system ( http://sylpheed.sraoss.jp/redmine/projects/sylpheed ). Hopefully he'll join us here and link to those commits. I'm not a skilled C developer so I wont be able to create the patches myself. I will assist where possible though. -Akima -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1296284 Title: New stable release: 3.3.1 available.
