My ricoh 5-in-1 memory card reader has not been working for quite some
time now, I stick a memory stick in the slot, any slot and ubuntu fails
to read/see itI believe this has been happening since Dapper, I
noticed in Hardy over and over after MANY updates..lspci sees
affects stalonetray...from what user is commenting on...pidgin still
works as intended.

Wireshark needs root access to be able to capture network interfaces but
synaptic does not install it to use sudo or gksudo by default, you must
change your menu items to include it.

A recent update to firefox seems to have fixed the issue at hand, though
it happened with and without compiz enabled. I dont experience it with
any other applications, just firefox.

your description is confusing, can you give more information? You mean
you must be connected to the internet to use your pc? how would this be
so? I think the network connections come on AFTER the initial boot up
process.
