I have a Samsung qx310 and I have been affected by the exact same behaviour -
always a black screen in the dock and while connecting the monitor directly
with the laptop.
I installed the kernel suggested in
Logging in using my username instead of my email worked for me too

I totally agree, the alpha 64 bits version seems to me much more stable than
any combination of 32bit+nspluginwrapper. I installed the 64bit version in
jaunty and I hadn't any problem ever since

I have to say it better: it works perfectly with every application but
skype! When I try to patch the deb downloaded from here with this

When I upgraded my system to feisty fawn my deskbar stop working
