[Bug 912864] [NEW] pidgin crashes when closing conversation window after using indicator messages applet
Public bug reported: The following sequence reproduces the crash on my Oeneric desktop installation every time: 1. When a new message arrives to pidgin in Unity desktop, the indicator messages applet will display highlighted mail envelope icon. 2. If I click on the icon, there would be a menu item showing the contact name. 3. Clicking on the contact name brings up the new conversation window with the contact. 4. If after that I close the conversation window (by hitting Escape key), the window will show gray background and sit there for a while. The pidgin will crash afterwards at random places. ** Affects: pidgin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/912864 Title: pidgin crashes when closing conversation window after using indicator messages applet To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin/+bug/912864/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 803541] [NEW] Xorg freezes sometimes after display went to sleep
Public bug reported: After upgrading from Maverick to Natty (clean install, not a dist- upgrade) I've noticed that every few days my laptop's X screen stops updating. This happens when system is left idle for certain period of time, like 20 minutes. So I turned off the screensaver, but this didn't help. I have a power management setting to put display to sleep after 15 minutes, which I am now turning off (setting to 'Never') to see if that helps. When the bug occurs: I would get back to my laptop and find it's screen blank (which is expected after a while being idle,) hit a key to wake it up and get back to where I've left. However, the screen is not updating anymore: e.g. gnome-terminal cursor doesn't blink, cpu load graph applet doesn't tick, etc. If I move the mouse, it will update the cursor position and shape (e.g. turn to beam cursor when over text input area, and back to arrow then leaving the area.) If I try to click at any point or type something on the keyboard, nothing seems to happen. A gdm restart helps to regain X w/o rebooting the system. I've looked up X, kernel and gdm logs but didn't seem to find any clues. This doesn't happen every time I wake the laptop--not even every day, but sometimes it happens 2 or 3 times a day. The laptop is running on AC power most of the time, and every time the problem occurred it was plugged into wall charger. I've been running Ubuntu since version 8.10 on this same machine and never experienced this bug before Natty. SpaceBar denotes me pressing space bar to pause, then to resume playback. $ vlc song44\ -\ Trial\ of\ the\ BSD\ Knights.ogg -vv VLC media player 1.1.4 The Luggage (revision exported) [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: VLC media player - 1.1.4 The Luggage [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: Copyright © 1996-2010 the VideoLAN team [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: revision exported [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: configured with ./configure '--enable-static' '--build=x86_64-linux-gnu' '--config-cache' '--disable-maintainer-mode' '--disable-silent-rules' '--disable-update-check' '--enable-fast-install' '--prefix=/usr' '--sysconfdir=/etc' '--with-binary-version=1ubuntu1.1' '--enable-a52' '--enable-aa' '--enable-bonjour' '--enable-caca' '--enable-dca' '--enable-dirac' '--enable-dvb' '--enable-dvbpsi' '--enable-dvdnav' '--enable-faad' '--enable-flac' '--enable-fluidsynth' '--enable-freetype' '--enable-fribidi' '--enable-ggi' '--enable-gnutls' '--enable-jack' '--enable-kate' '--enable-libass' '--enable-libmpeg2' '--enable-libproxy' '--enable-libxml2' '--enable-lirc' '--enable-live555' '--enable-mad' '--enable-mkv' '--enable-mod' '--enable-mozilla' '--enable-mpc' '--enable-mtp' '--enable-mux_ogg' '--enable-ncurses' '--enable-notify' '--enable-ogg' '--enable-pulse' '--enable-qt4' '--enable-realrtsp' '--enable-schroedinger' '--enable-sdl' '--enable-shout' '--enable-skins2' '--enable-smb' '--enable-speex' '--enable-svg' '--enable-taglib' '--enable-theora' '--enable-twolame' '--enable-upnp' '--enable-vcd' '--enable-vcdx' '--enable-vorbis' '--enable-x264' '--enable-zvbi' '--with-kde-solid=/usr/share/kde4/apps/' '--with-mozilla-pkg=libxul' '--disable-dxva2' '--disable-gnomevfs' '--disable-goom' '--disable-osso_screensaver' '--disable-portaudio' '--disable-projectm' '--disable-sqlite' '--disable-telx' '--enable-alsa' '--enable-atmo' '--enable-dc1394' '--enable-dv' '--enable-libva' '--enable-pvr' '--enable-udev' '--enable-v4l' '--enable-v4l2' '--enable-svgalib' 'build_alias=x86_64-linux-gnu' 'CFLAGS=-g -O2' 'LDFLAGS=-Wl,--as-needed' 'CPPFLAGS=' 'CXXFLAGS=-g -O2' [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: translation test: code is C [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: checking plugin modules [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: loading plugins cache file /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/plugins-04081e-3e8.dat [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: recursively browsing `/usr/lib/vlc/plugins' [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: saving plugins cache /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/plugins-04081e-3e8.dat [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: module bank initialized (393 modules) [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: opening config file (/home/user/.config/vlc/vlcrc) [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: CPU has capabilities MMX MMXEXT SSE SSE2 SSE3 SSSE3 FPU [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: looking for memcpy module: 3 candidates [0x11d3120] main libvlc debug: using memcpy module memcpymmxext [0x12bee90] main input debug: Creating an input for 'Media Library' [0x12bee90] main input debug: Input is a meta file: disabling unneeded options [0x12bee90] main input debug: using timeshift granularity of 50 MiB [0x12bee90] main input debug: using timeshift path '/tmp' [0x12bee90] main input debug: `file/xspf-open:///home/user/.local/share/vlc/ml.xspf' gives access `file' demux `xspf-open' path `/home/user/.local/share/vlc/ml.xspf' [0x12bee90] main input debug: creating demux: access='file' demux='xspf-open' path='/home/user/.local/share/vlc/ml.xspf' [0x12c5650] main demux debug: looking for access_demux module: 2 candidates [0x12c5650] main demux debug: no access_demux module matching file could be loaded [0x12c5650] main demux debug: TIMER module_need() : 1.765 ms - Total 1.765 ms / 1 intvls (Avg 1.765 ms) [0x12bee90] main input debug: creating access 'file' path='/home/user/.local/share/vlc/ml.xspf' [0x12d4e50] main access debug: looking for access module: 2 candidates [0x12d4e50] filesystem access debug: opening file `/home/user/.local/share/vlc/ml.xspf' [0x12d4e50] main access debug: using access module filesystem [0x12d4e50] main access debug: TIMER module_need() : 0.477 ms - Total 0.477 ms / 1 intvls (Avg 0.477 ms) [0x12c6930] main stream debug: Using AStream*Stream [0x12c6930] main stream debug: pre buffering [0x12c6930] main stream debug: received first data after 0 ms [0x12c6930] main stream debug: pre-buffering done 296 bytes in 0s - 13139 KiB/s [0x12c7b40] main stream debug: looking for stream_filter module: 5 candidates [0x12c7b40] main stream debug: no stream_filter module matching any could be loaded [0x12c7b40] main stream debug: TIMER module_need() : 0.694 ms - Total 0.694 ms / 1 intvls (Avg 0.694 ms) [0x12c7b40] main stream debug: looking for stream_filter module: 1 candidate [0x12c7b40] main stream debug: using stream_filter module stream_filter_record [0x12c7b40] main stream

[Bug 696841] [NEW] vlc stops playing audio after pause/resume or seek
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vlc Audio output blocks after pausing and then resuming playback. It also blocks after seeking (forward or backward) through the stream. If I change the audio track, it starts playing audio again. This happens on every video/audio file I've tried. Starts to happen after dist-upgrade to maverick. Hi, seems like one of the recent pulseaudio updates from ubuntu-audio- dev PPA fixed the problem for me. Sorry, it was premature. After restart, the problem is still here. That time I saw volume not reset to zero after restart was the time I was forced to cold-reset the machine, so it ultimately must be some shutdown script which is zeroing the volume level. -- Alsa mixer Master Front volume resets to minimum on startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/449589 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hey, I've just removed gnome-screensaver and installed xscreensaver instead. It doesn't work either! Can it be something is broken on some lower level? I've re-logged in, checked that xscreensaver process is running, adjusted settings to activate after 1 minute of idle time--and it didn't work, just like before. [Bug 445236] [NEW] thunar hangs when opening large USB vfat drives
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: thunar Opening vfat drives in thunar (for the first time after the mount) takes significant time, proportional to drive's size: approx. 3 minutes for 320G drive. The file browser displays nothing and just 'hangs' with the status 'Loading folder contents...'. The problem is caused by the call to statfs which makes the whole disk scan in the absence of 'usefree' option to mount. The same problem also affects nautilus. For my setup, I've just edited fstab entries for my external drives. However, plugging in large USB sticks still happens with delay (tolerable). This problem was reported and fixed back in 2007, see e.g. #133567 Now, it might be unwise to add 'usefree' by default when mounting vfat drives. How about adding a special option to 'Removable drives and media' below the 'Mount removable media then inserted'?
