[Bug 502642] Re: .ts files always get recognized as application/x-linguist and never as video/mp2t (mpeg transport stream)

2018-12-27 Thread Alexander Amelkin
I second comment #48. Ubuntu 16.04 (well, Mint 18.3 Sylvia actually, but
it uses Xenial repositories).

```
$ hexdump -C -n 16 .ts
  47 ff ff 50 52 49 56 54  3a 04 00 00 39 04 00 00  |G..PRIVT:...9...|
$ mimetype --all .ts
.ts: text/vnd.trolltech.linguist
.ts: application/octet-stream
```

[Bug 1639324] Re: Lubuntu 16.10 cannot be installed offline because misssing grub-pc (grub-install)

2017-01-18 Thread Alexander Amelkin
Happened to me as well when I was trying to do a custom offline install
of 16.10 near the existing Windows 10. I told the installer I want
Ubuntu on /dev/sdb4 (logical) , and swap on /dev/sda4 (primary). It then
failed with exactly the described symptoms.

[Bug 624510] Re: Copying To USB Is Very Slow In Ubuntu 10.04

2011-04-29 Thread Alexander Amelkin
Please fix this bug in 10.04 LTS. That LTS stands for Long Term
Support, so please provide it, don't force users to switch to an
interim 10.10 version. If fixing this bug requires porting 2.6.38.1 or
whatever kernel to 10.04, please do so.

[Bug 220991] Re: Thunderbird corrupts attachments from IMAP exchange server

2011-02-11 Thread Alexander Amelkin
Just a note. The fetch_by_chunks option indeed works as a workaround.
Since there is no option in Thunderbird to reload a single message,
you will have to reload the whole folder. To do so, go to the folder Properties
and select Repair Folder.

I believe this is indeed a bug with Exchange (all versions including 2010),
but it's good to have this workaround listed here because it looks like MS is
not going to ever fix that.

[Bug 392204] Re: Huge CPU usage by mount.ntfs process

2010-10-28 Thread Alexander Amelkin
I've backported ntfs-3g 2010.8.8 and fuse 2.8.4 from Maverick (took them from
http://packages.ubuntu.com)
and now it looks like the system doesn't freeze anymore, but the performance is
vastly lower than it was with
the original Jaunty packages. I had xfer speeds like 6.5 MB/sec when moving
from ext3 to ntfs, now I only have 2.5MB/sec. :( I yet have to check how
Transmission behaves now on huge torrents.

For anyone interested how to backport the packages, do the following:

1. Go to packages.ubuntu.com, find the most recent package, copy the link for
the .dsc file for it
2. Run:

dget the_copied_URL
dpkg-source -x filename.dsc
cd package_source_dir
dch -i

3. Edit the log
4. Run:

dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
cd ..
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Usually this goes smoothly enough. It may require some additional
packages, but it's quite obvious how to resolve such issues. :)
