I think I've figured out why this is happening. If I restart directly
into Ubuntu, then it works correctly and the setting is remembered.
However, if I restart into Unity, then back into Ubuntu, the setting is
forgotten. Perhaps Unity is overwriting the setting?

I go into the time and date settings, and set the time to be
automatically set from the internet. Then the next time time I go into
the time and date settings, this setting has reverted to manual. I've
set it to automatic many times, and the setting keeps getting lost.
That's interesting. It sounds like there's a race condition that's
affecting us differently. In my case, the submenus definitely aren't
being populated, even if I hover the mouse pointer over the parent menu
item for 30 seconds. If I then move the mouse pointer away and back

The only other Bluetooth headphones I've had access to recently were a
pair of Bose QC35 (1st generation). They showed up in the list of
visible BT devices, but my laptop couldn't connect to them at all,
despite numerous attempts. As a result, I bought the Sonys and got rid
of the Bose.
