2017-10-14 Thread Alroger Filho
Still the same on Xubuntu / Ubuntu 17.04.

There are a few places to set which is the primary display, but they are
useseless.
I have the option in nVidia Settings and Display in Settings. None help.

It's very anoyting, since my big monitor is on the right, and as I open
new things, or even Save File popup slections keep going to the small
left monitor on my laptop!

[Bug 1624320] Re: systemd-resolved appends 127.0.0.53 to resolv.conf alongside existing entries

2017-04-25 Thread Alroger Filho
Same problem here. Editing resolv.conf or #8 post solves it.

I almost lost a RAID today because postfix was not able to send mdadm
notifications -
delivery temporarily suspended: Host or domain name not found. Name service
error for name=smtp.gmail.com type=MX: Host not found

I use /etc/network/interfaces, nothing in networkmanager.
This is serious. Ubuntu shouldn't just start changing things like this,
specially if it breaks a server.

Using a clean 17.04 install here.

[Bug 1546176] Re: Dropbox icon not working on Xubuntu 14.04

2016-04-22 Thread Alroger Filho
Xubuntu 16.04 fresh install from release date here.

#14 and #22 solutions work only manually for me. They don't work in the
Autostart Apps because Dropbox keeps re-creating the Autostart entry
every time I login, and executes first. Yes, I've tried "dropbox
autostart n".

Simple solution for me was to remove nautilus-dropbox and install caja-dropbox.
The caja version respects the autostart yes / no, as it should.
All good in Xubuntu.

[Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-12-16 Thread Alroger Filho
What a fun discussion.

Just a reminder... '+c has always been ç since MS-DOS, in US
International Keyboard... MS-DOS, PC-DOS, Basic, Apple, old computers,
Wordstar, Lotus123, Windows, OS/2, Unix in general... somewhere around
Ubuntu 7, or Fedora 5 it started coming as an accented ć, was fixed in
Ubuntu 8.04, and accented again after that.

Very frustrating. Gotta learn a new "patch" every new version of
Ubuntu.

[Bug 1337306] Re: virt-manager system tray menu is missing icons

2015-07-08 Thread Alroger Filho
Greetings.

I started to notice this since Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, and still see this simptom on
15.04 now.
I've never figured out why, but it started on a server update with 10.04... it
left my office working, through ssh -X, our -YC and after a few months updates
stopped showing the icons.

I just formatted a new Xubuntu 15.04 64bits on my desktop+server, copied
a few /etc configs, KVM folders, etc It looked fine on Xubuntu
14.04, 14.10 and Sparky. And now I don't have the icon.

I thought it was a remote ssh problem, that I still see in a few customers. But
now my machine presents it.
I have just tried a live Xubuntu 15.04 64bits on a VM, installed virt-manager
only, and the icons work.

All that brings the question: what could be updated or installed that
would mess up those icons? The package should have it's own default
fallback icons, shouldn't it?

A couple pics attached.

Even without checking the option to download during installation, and

[Bug 319909] Re: Encrypted home prevents ssh access with keys

2010-08-26 Thread Alroger Filho
Just figured it out for me. Only authorized_keys must be outside the encrypted
directory, for sshd will use it before any user log.
Your actual keys and known_hosts can be inside the encrypted dir, only with
symbolic links to a .ssh directory that is not encrypted.

[Bug 319909] Re: Encrypted home prevents ssh access with keys

2010-08-26 Thread Alroger Filho
That doesn't really help.
I do want to keep all my keys encrypted. I have access to several client's
servers and don't want those keys to be avail to anyone who steels my PC or
notebook.
Why doesn't SSH work with it's .ssh dir encrypted?

I also tried encrypting only a directory with encfs, and moving .ssh
inside it, then creating a symlink to ~/.ssh.. but sshd refuses to work
with it.

Any ideais?

doesn't work with sound capture.

I still have this problema in Lucid. Same thing that happened when I installed

comes out when printing PDFs.

As soon as I stop apparmor and restart cups and samba everything starts working

[Bug 428884] Re: gnome-screensaver-command --poke no longer inhibits screensaver

2009-12-15 Thread Alroger Filho
Fermulatur is absolutly right. Rémi, you are still trying to fix the right way,
when Ubuntu should just through it's old gnome-screen-saver from Jaunty back at
it's users. May the right fix come out in the next version, but if right now
people are just formating with 9.04 for all the bugs found in 9.10. This is the
worse Ubuntu version since I started using it (back in 7.xx).
If I only knew how install the old gnome-screen-saver back, I'd already have
posted on my blog and tought hundreds of people on how to do it. VLC is much
more used than any other media player, but this problem is with everything, not
just VLC. Even full screen games are afected. I'm not even sure which is the
"official" media player, but Totem also has the problem.

I was having this problem using Ubuntu 9.04 64bits with OSS4 (no ALSA,

Tried killing pulseaudio, removed alsa nothing installed OSS4 and the
samething still happens when Sound Rec is on.
If we only had config options for Istanbul like audio settings. It's
probably looking for some alsa config that doesn't even exist... or some other
sound lib

[Bug 163930] Re: Video playback has messed up colour scheme (green lines appearing over the video) for multiple video players using .avi files

2009-01-31 Thread Alroger Filho
I've been searching around but can't find an exact match. Maybe nobody actually
figured what was happening.
I have video play back problems... started getting worse on the latest Ubuntu
8.10 (Intrepid) updates.
The problem looks like the color bits of the video are displaced, making a
green row on the left and all the red colors displaced to the right. Only
happens with certain videos, mostly xvid.
I'm using an nVidia GeForce 8600GT with the Ubuntu proprietary driver 177.

The XINE tip didnt help me, but gave me the idea to try other video outputs
X11 works fine... OpenGL works too. Xv is the buggy one.
Never had this problem on my notebook with ATI video drivers.

Hope it helps someone outt here.

[Bug 191027] Re: "Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument"

2008-10-07 Thread Alroger Filho
Observing all the comments, something poped up in my mind.
Might it not be GDM that is preventing Pulse to startup correctly?
See, if there is no pulseaudio running and GDM tries to make its startup sounds
(1 before login, 1 after) it will probably use ALSA, and if it locks up alsa
while pulse is starting, pulse will not be able to really start, because it
could not get a hole of the sound system.
Does that make sense to you guys?
I don't what libasound2 or anything like that might help, cause pulseaudio is
working. It just doesn't startup correctly.
And as far as I read, it should be started as the user, not root.

[Bug 191027] Re: "Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument"

2008-06-22 Thread Alroger Filho
[Update]
Right now, my solution is to killall pulseaudio right after I login, and run
pulseaudio again.

Observe that Bill is probably using aplay, play or sox to play sound
files in the comment above. That will work, since regular ALSA is always
working. esdplay or paplay actually play the sound file through
PulseAudio.

So I added the following script to my Session startup programs:

#!/bin/bash
# fix por PulseAudio auto-start broken

sleep 15
killall pulseaudio
sleep 5
pulseaudio&
sleep 5
paplay /usr/lib/openoffice/share/gallery/sounds/space.wav

Unsupported SMI call.

I have already removed any BIOS passwords, just to make sure.

I can set the brightness via /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness
normally. Why doesn't HAL just use the ACPI way, in case the new ways
don't work?

harrydb, can you post your quick'n'dirty patches for us?
Shouldn't it be as simples as adding another elif in
/usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/hal-system-lcd-set-brightness-linux for the right
acpi path and brightness steps? I can't figure out where these variables in hal
come from, like $HAL_PROP_LAPTOP_PANEL_ACCESS_METHOD. Can anyone help?
