I switched to Arch, where the problem persists. The rc.local fix
described above does not work because Arch uses systemd. Here is a UDEV
rule that solves the problem.

The previous update caused all USB devices to fail, as well as the built in
trackpad. This claims to have a fix for that, but probably does not fix another
bios related issue: Booting the device when AC power is not present results in
no mouse cursor. That affects all bioses after 1.52 I'm told.
Apologies for all the comments. Above links are for s230u 3347-2hu. Your
mileage may vary.

Please remove this dialog box. It serves no useful purpose, and is a great
annoyance.

Awesome - I can confirm that removal of the switch mentioned above does
make window resizing work properly in 3d mode. And after testing
several projects, performance does not appear to be affected. :)

This can dramatically improve display performance, but works only when Squeak
