directories before, but didn't deleted the credentials in
gnome-keyring. However, when deleting the credentials from keyring,

- hit Alt-F2
- enter a command that opens a window (for me it's a bash script that runs
gnome-terminal attaching to a screen session on a remote machine)

Sorry for the late reply, somehow I've missed the comments.
@Omer: My issue isn't the login screen. Unity won't show up. When
choosing Gnome as the default session everything works fine.
@Martijn: No, the bug I'm seeing doesn't disappear on a fully updated

What is needed to track down this (very annoying) bug? I'm seeing the
same issues, but unfortunately this bug is really hard to reproduce. In
my case I usually (but not always) can reproduce it like this
- switch to integrated graphics in bios (intel)
- boot
- gdm autologin into unity --
I should mention that I enabled apport and that there are no crash
reports in /var/crash.

In my case xserver-xorg-video-ati was missing. Reinstalling it solved
the issue, in fact there was an error message in Xorg.0.log that the ati
module couldn't be found and vesa was used. It seems that xserver-xorg-
video-ati was lost during one of the last updates.
