That's because Arch Linux is applying the patch from this bug report:

[Bug 566317] Re: Lucid openjdk cannot verify applet signature (certificate chain not rebuilt)

2013-04-13 Thread Andrey Vihrov
This also happens with the TopCoder arena applet
(http://community.topcoder.com/contest/arena/ContestAppletProd.jnlp),
version 7.0.3. The VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification
Authority - G5 certificate is /etc/ssl/certs/java/cacerts, yet OpenJDK
can't verify the applet's signature against it.

2008-09-03 Thread Andrey Vihrov
Just dropped here to say 173.14.09 is affected also. I forgot about this
problem for some time, since I rolled back to 100.xx, but yesterday's
update to the .25 kernel forced me install the new drivers.
Unfortunately, I found the issue is still present. :-( I'll try to
install 177.70 within the next three days.

[Bug 152648] Re: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error

2008-05-09 Thread Andrey Vihrov
Following days of experiments, here are the results:

1. Default options do not help
2. Disabling/erasing .nvidia-settings-rc doesn't help
3. Option 'UseCompositeWrapper' doesn't help

I've run out of ideas, and thereby am forced to use 'nv' until any
progress/change. ):

Maybe the bug isn't in NVIDIA itself, but in it's combination with Xorg
7.3. btw, Xorg states it's a pre-release and is not supported by
original maintainers in any way; and we have that in LTS (!).

[Bug 173004] Re: php5 updates to unwanted apache packages

2007-12-03 Thread Andrey Vihrov
Today more php5 updates arrived, and I tried to upgrade the system using
apt-get rather than update-manager. The results are: apt-get upgrade
functions perfectly and doesn't even mention libapache2-mod-php5. On the
other hand, apt-get dist-upgrade behaves just like the update-manager.

[Bug 173004] php5 updates to unwanted apache packages

2007-11-30 Thread Andrey Vihrov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I have a Lighttpd server installed and php5 configured to work with the
server. It all works ok. However, on every php5 metapackage update, the
system downloads also a package libapache2-mod-php5 and all of its
dependencies which are completely useless for me. After the upgrade, I
am able to remove them harmlessly.

This is most likely because of a php5 dependency libapache-mod-php5 |
php5-cgi. Since I have php5-cgi installed, I would not need the first
alternative ever, but it seems that update-manager has different
thoughts :)

This has happened on Feisty and Gutsy for me.

[Bug 160264] Re: compiz displays white screen when locked

2007-11-19 Thread Andrey Vihrov
I just noticed that the lock screen window isn't the only one buggy.
It seems to happen with all windows that are opened while the particular
VT is inactive (some kind of pop-ups for example, in my case - Skype
Downloads window and various Gnome messages). The windows appear white
and there is nothing where the title area and the borders should be
(although, as it was with the lock screen, the window can be manipulated
with the keyboard and mouse blindly).

As far as I understand, compiz uses hardware-accelerated textures and
overlays to draw windows. Hence it seems that a texture
allocation/initialization fails with NVIDIA on inactive VTs for some
reason.

Based on this, I suggest a workaround for the bug. We must avoid window
creation on inactive VT, so rather than just using Fast User Switch
Applet one should lock the screen manually (ctrl+alt+L) and then use the
Switch User button. Screensavers/time-based screen locking should be
also turned off - use explicit lock instead. Fast User Switch Applet can
also be configure not to lock the screen.

[Bug 160264] compiz displays white screen when locked

2007-11-05 Thread Andrey Vihrov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

My computer has two users, and they are often logged onto X
simultaneously. I am one of the users and I use compiz. The problem is
that when I lock my screen and switch to other VT (using ctrl+alt+fN or
Fast User Switch Applet), then back to mine I get a white screen instead
of Gnome unlock dialog. However, the mouse pointer still exists and even
changes to cursor-like when I point the area where password text box
should be located. I am able then to enter my password (the screen
remains completely white) and to press enter. After that I am returned
to my desktop as if nothing has happened.

I'm running Gutsy. compiz version is 1:0.6.0+git20071008-0ubuntu1.1. I
have an nvidia video card with nvidia-glx-new 100.14.19+2.6.22.4-14.9

[Bug 139801] Re: Totem won't display cyrillic subtitles

2007-09-21 Thread Andrey Vihrov
The subtitles are built into the movie file I was trying to watch. I
have found that a tool called mkvextract (package mkvtoolnix) can be
used to extract the subtitles. Unfortunately, this program generates an
unhandled exception each time I run it with proper parameters. I haven't
found another way to do it on Linux yet.

Here's some info about the movie file:

container: Ogg/OGM
Track ID 0: video (DX50)
Track ID 1: audio (Vorbis)
Track ID 2: audio (Vorbis)
Track ID 3: subtitles (text)

[Bug 92599] Re: [nvidia-glx] unable to set proper screen refresh rate

2007-04-28 Thread Andrey Vihrov
It looks very similar, indeed. Although I don't use TwinView, the
refresh rate seems to be reported correctly by monitor's OSD and nvidia-
settings, but not by Gnome's screen resolution setup dialog and xrandr
command.

Here's the output of nvidia-settings -q RefreshRate

   Attribute 'RefreshRate' (Xel-Naga:0.0; display device: DFP-0): 75,02

[Bug 92599] Re: unable to set proper screen refresh rate

2007-03-20 Thread Andrey Vihrov
Timo, I have 2ms response time here, so I can see the difference between
60 Hz and 75 Hz (it's not big, but it exists, especially noticeable in
3D-games like q3). And because of this I do care of the refresh rate.
However, I can set the 75 Hz mode, selecting 50 Hz in Gnome settings, so
if it isn't counted as a bug, reject this.

It selects the same, 1280x1024 @ 60 Hz, which is reported as 51 Hz mode

I found some options relevant to EDID in the README, but they require
either custom EDID file or modes file. btw, the IgnoreEDID option is
now obsolete, UseEDID is used instead.

[Bug 92599] Re: unable to set proper screen refresh rate

2007-03-16 Thread Andrey Vihrov
1. No, I set HorizSync up to 81 during the xserver-xorg configuration process
(according to gtf, hsync must be 80.17 in mode 1280x1024_75.00), and
VertRefresh to 75. But it still has no effect.
2. 50 Hz and 54 Hz appear in the screen resolution and refresh rate
configuration dialog in Gnome - there are no other options.
3. I've tried to reconfigure the server, then to edit VertRefresh manually, and
then to add my own modeline, overwriting all others.
4. xorg.conf, as well as Xorg.0.log, is in the attachment. The xorg.conf
included has HorizSync and VertRefresh parameters. Howewer, these two were
commented in the original xorg.conf version (the one after upgrade to feisty),
but it didn't work, too.

Thank you for posting answer on this report.

[Bug 92599] Re: unable to set proper screen refresh rate

2007-03-16 Thread Andrey Vihrov
Cesare,

Here you go.

I started Xorg with verbosity 6. Notice that mode 1280x1024 @ 75 Hz is
identified as valid at lines 572, 728, 1256 and 2199.

xresprobe didn't produce anything when it was started with parameters
nvidia and nvidia lcd, so I started ddcprobe. I hope it will be
helpful.

You mention the video card and its driver. In a reply, I can say that
hardware worked OK on edgy and works OK even now on Windows, so the
problem might be in the drivers. Here are the versions of driver
software I'm using: nvidia-glx version 1.0.9631+2.6.20.3-11.10 and
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-11-generic version 2.6.20.3-11.10.

Thank you.
