My session crashed, I was brought back to GDM, logged in, and was
greeted with this. I don't know if it caused the session failure, or
happened during/after logging in.

I can confirm yet on 10.10, VMware Workstation 7.1.3 build-324285.
I do see the application indicator in the menu, but clicking (right or
left) doesn't give any sort of menu with it.
