[Bug 1939106] Re: The aufs storage-driver is no longer supported in docker.io_20.10.7-0ubuntu1~20.04.1

2021-08-08 Thread Antoine Pitrou
Does anyone know how to upgrade the images and containers? Ideally the
error message when upgrading should give a clue about that...

[Bug 1905761] [NEW] "perf record" doesn't have compression enabled

2020-11-26 Thread Antoine Pitrou

[Bug 1881603] [NEW] [snap] Cannot open attached file from e-mail

2020-06-01 Thread Antoine Pitrou
Public bug reported:

I installed the LibreOffice snap to get a newer version compared to the apt
package. When I receive a LibreOffice document as attachment and try to open
it from Thunderbird, I get the following error message:
"""
/tmp/mozilla-antoine0/mydoc.docx doesn't exist
"""

I don't understand the point of restricting filesystem access from a word
processor.
At least this is a clear regression from the apt package.

[Bug 1835035] [NEW] libc-ares-dev doesn't provide cmake files

2019-07-02 Thread Antoine Pitrou

[Bug 1396654] Re: C++ demangling support missing from perf

2019-03-20 Thread Antoine Pitrou
Hmm, apparently /usr/bin/perf is only a wrapper script that runs the
"right" version of the perf executable for the current kernel. But the
perf executable (typically inside /usr/lib/linux-tools-VERSION) is part
of the "linux-tools-VERSION" package.

So if I do:
$ sudo apt install linux-tools-4.15.0-47/bionic-proposed

and then run /usr/lib/linux-tools-4.15.0-47/perf directly, instead of
the wrapper script which will still run the perf version for the LTS
kernel, things finally work here.

I've installed linux-tools-common 4.15.0-47.50 from bionic-proposed and
checked that the new /usr/bin/perf binary still doesn't demangle C++
symbols (even when "perf report --demangle" is passed explicitly).

[Bug 1741768] Re: U2F FIDO authentication doesn't work

2018-01-09 Thread Antoine Pitrou
Hi jc-moz,

I initially thought so, but switched AppArmor to complain mode (rather
than enforce) and got the same results (also the Mozilla-built Chromium
works fine). Current AppArmor status:

$ sudo apparmor_status
[...]
17 processes have profiles defined.
9 processes are in enforce mode.
   /sbin/dhclient (2869)
   /usr/sbin/cups-browsed (7130)
   /usr/sbin/cupsd (7125)
   /usr/sbin/dnsmasq (3073)
   /usr/sbin/dnsmasq (3074)
   /usr/sbin/dnsmasq (3089)
   /usr/sbin/dnsmasq (3393)
   /usr/sbin/libvirtd (2495)
   /usr/sbin/ntpd (4833)
8 processes are in complain mode.
   /usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]} (7492)
   /usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]} (7544)
   /usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]} (7702)
   /usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]} (19925)
   /usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]} (19963)
   /usr/sbin/avahi-daemon (2145)
   /usr/sbin/avahi-daemon (2199)
   /usr/sbin/nmbd (3616)

There may be something else than AppArmor going on, but I don't know what. Do
you have any idea?

[Bug 1741768] [NEW] U2F FIDO authentication doesn't work

2018-01-07 Thread Antoine Pitrou
Public bug reported:

I have a Yubico U2F security key. If I download the upstream Firefox
binary for 57.0.4 and go to https://demo.yubico.com/u2f?tab=register,
the test page works fine: I can register with a username/password, my
key starts blinking and I can touch it to validate.

If I go to the same page using the official Ubuntu package of Firefox,
the U2F device is not recognized and the page displays the following
error:

"""
Registration failed!

Make sure you have a U2F device connected, and try again.

 Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/root/python-u2flib-server-demo/examples/yubiauth_server.py", line 161,
in __call__
raise Exception("FIDO Client error: %s" % error)
Exception: FIDO Client error: 1 (OTHER ERROR)
"""

Note that in both cases, I did enable the required options in
"about:config" (as outlined in e.g. https://www.yubico.com/2017/11/how-
to-navigate-fido-u2f-in-firefox-quantum/).

[Bug 1660051] Re: refresh problems with multi-process

2017-01-28 Thread Antoine Pitrou
It turns out /dev/nvidia-modeset is a red herring. If I add the
following line to /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.firefox:

  /dev/shm/org.chromium* rw,

the refresh problems disappear.

** Summary changed:

[Bug 1660051] [NEW] refresh problems with multi-process

2017-01-28 Thread Antoine Pitrou
Public bug reported:

With Ubuntu's build of Firefox 51, enabling multi-process produces
refresh problems when switching tabs. In detail, here is what I did:

1) create a new profile
2) start firefox with that new profile (so no add-ons)
3) display "about:support" and check that multi-process is on
4) open a few other tabs on various web pages
5) switch between tabs: most of the time, the display is not refreshed, the old
tab's contents is still there

Then I tried Mozilla's officiel build of Firefox 51 for Linux
(specifically the French x86-64 version), and I had no problems: display
is refreshed when I switch tabs.

There must be something different in the Ubuntu build. Note I have a
NVidia card and use the proprietary driver (I'm assuming detailed info
is uploaded as part of the bug report process?).

Additional information: I have Ubuntu's AppArmor profile for Firefox
enabled.

[Bug 1492764] Re: [drm:intel_pipe_config_compare [i915]] *ERROR* mismatch in ips_enabled (expected 1, found 0)

2016-01-04 Thread Antoine Pitrou
I got this issue after trying to install the nvidia-352 driver on my laptop (an
optimus setup with both an Intel iGPU and a NVidia GPU).
I then uninstalled the NVidia driver, but it still doesn't fix the problem,
which is mysterious.

[Bug 1502307] Re: improper APM settings chosen when power status cannot be determined

2015-10-02 Thread Antoine Pitrou
I'm entirely sure about the diagnosis, since it seems the configuration
is conditioned on APMD_DRIVES (does it get a default value when the
script is being run?). What I know is that, since Ubuntu 15.04, my HDD
has been showing this behaviour of spinning down quite quickly while it
didn't before...

[Bug 1502307] [NEW] improper APM settings chosen when power status cannot be determined

2015-10-02 Thread Antoine Pitrou
Public bug reported:

On my *desktop* machine, on_ac_power returns 255 as a status code, which
according to the man page means "Power status could not be determined".
This is reasonable, but unfortunately /etc/apm/event.d/20hdparm takes it
(*) as meaning "use the conservative setting" which sets the hard drive
to spin down after 90 seconds of inactivity. This is entirely
inappropriate for a desktop machine, as now I have to wait several
seconds each time I access my non-system hard drive.

/etc/apm/event.d/20hdparm should really take 255 to mean "this is
unlikely to be a battery-powered machine at all, don't mess with the
power management settings".

(*) relevant snippet:

choose_power ()
{
if on_ac_power > /dev/null
then
power_performance
else
power_conserve
fi
}

[Bug 1442289] [NEW] Selenium version incompatible with Firefox

2015-04-09 Thread Antoine Pitrou
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 14.10 bundles python-selenium 2.25.0, but that is too old for the
packaged Firefox version (currently 37, but even Firefox 36 doesn't
work). Upstream selenium 2.45.0 works fine. The packaged selenium is
much less useful if it's not compatible with the packaged Firefox (even
though other drivers may still work, of course).

[Bug 1302462] [NEW] network icon disappeared in xubuntu

2014-04-04 Thread Antoine Pitrou
Public bug reported:

Following the latest Xubuntu 14.04 updates, the network icon disapperead from
the xfce panel.
I tried the workaround mentioned on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Xubuntu/Roadmap/Specifications/Trusty/Gtk3Indicators
(As a workaround, put INDICATOR_ALLOW_NO_WATCHERS=yes in /etc/environment
and reboot) but it didn't fix anything.

I can bring the icon into the panel by running sudo nm-applet,
unfortunately this still isn't functional since any interactive dialog
needed by NetworkManager (for example a wifi password dialog) will never
display, and therefore connecting will fail.

(I filed this bug against xfce4-panel, but there might be a better
choice)

[Bug 919200] Re: Doesn't know system default layout/variant

2012-10-03 Thread Antoine Pitrou
I have what seems to be the same problem. I configured my keyboard
layout to French, and it works both under the console and under a
Xubuntu (XFCE) session, but not on the lightdm login screen. This makes
it a mess to type in my password.

Really, this bug should be marked as critical, as it's a huge usability
roadblock for anyone with a non-US keyboard (and there are millions of
us).

(this is with Xubuntu 12.04, all current updates applied)

[Bug 386130] [NEW] x startup failure

2009-06-11 Thread Antoine Pitrou
Public bug reported:

I installed jaunty desktop on an MSI Wind U115 netbook, which is
architected around the Poulsbo chipset. After having run software
updates, I then proceeded to add the ubuntu-mobile sources and apt-get
xserver-xorg-video-psb. Unfortunately, after a reboot, X refuses to
launch. Yet the kernel modules seem to be loaded (excerpt from lsmod):

psb 160814 1
drm 192648 1 psb
i2c_algo_bit 14084 1 psb
